One thing that was really holding me back was how long the plane ride will take and will have to do a positioning flight. I still think it’s worth it to go somewhere we really want to go to. We’ll just have to be prepared and make the most of it. Right now we’re planning on buying the baby his own business class seat because sitting with him on our lap for 12 hours doesn’t sound appealing. I’m excited that we can just go back and chill because we rushed everything last time
A 14 hour time change with a one year old sounds like my own personal he**, but I hope for your sake that your child sleeps better and is more flexible than mine as a general rule anyway lol.

Babies and toddlers can be very circadian rhythm driven. You may be seeing Tokyo at 2 am when you baby is awake and happy and then they sleep all day. Cause that’s what they’re body clock is telling them.

At least with a long trip, they’ll have time to adjust.

Tried DoorDash tonight. Not so good. 35 minutes later than estimated delivery time. When I checked the app at expected delivery time, it said dasher was waiting at restaurant. 10 minutes later got text that order was leaving restaurant. When I checked a few minutes later it indicated driver was in another town in the opposite direction. I texted the guy and he said he was “real close”. Arrived another 10 minutes later. Pretty sure he made 2 deliveries in opposite directions from the restaurant
Happened to me with Chipotle a couple weeks ago and is a known problem with DoorDash. They desperately need better tracking and stricter rules on their drivers.

Last night I ordered Panda Express and it came straight from the restaurant but the little side box of Kung Pao Chicken was mysteriously missing... They refunded via app right away for it but I would have preferred to have actually gotten it!

I need to check my mail more often! My CIP is sitting in my mailbox. DOH! I have some medical bills I've been holding off paying. And I plan on hitting up Staples too to get that MSR hit.

Question on upgrade/downgrades on Amex....

So I see my AF posted for the Aspire on 1/10. My bill isn't due till 2/5. I can call and cancel anytime before that, right?

Currently I have the Surpass (which I'm keeping as I'm grandfathered into the free night each year) and the biz (which I just got and finished the spend on). All 5 of my Amex slots are taken (Delta Gold Biz and Everyday). I had the pop ups before the biz but they finally cleared and I got the biz. I have no trips planned right now, so I don't feel keeping the Aspire makes sense. My idea is that I would cancel it. Keep Amex happy and spend on my other 4 cards. Eventually go for the free Hilton and get the SUB on that. Eventually you can upgrade that one, right? Is there any reason to believe (other than it's Amex and there's no rhyme or reason sometimes to their thought process), to think that they wouldn't let me upgrade to the Aspire when I need it? I plan on spending here and there on all of my Amex to keep them happy.

I don't want to downgrade to the free Hilton right now as I lose the SUB if I do that. And I don't have a slot to go for the free one right now. I need to free up some slots (the Hilton Biz I'll cancel next fall).

I know I've seen this discussed, but I'm not sure what to search to find the answer easily. If my first payment date for my SW card is due on February 27th, when is the actual statement close date? Will my CP automatically be triggered once the SUB points post, or will there be some lag between the points and CP becoming usable? TIA!

I know the time change will be hard but we’re prepared for that. We had a hard time with it last year as adults but after 2 days seemed to be on Japan time

And probably most kids would do fine. My little one just hates sleep as a general rule- she’s 2.5 and was up in the middle of the night at last 3 times last week. So I’m a bit traumatized in the sleep area by her and it now colors all of my travel plans lol.

I’m going to mentally prepare myself for being on a plane that long with a 1 year old. I’m hoping the lie flat seats will help him sleep. We most likely will be doing a positioning flight and staying somewhere the night before. Then we can go to the ANA lounge (or some lounge) before the long flight

Dh would rather not but I think it would be so fun with the baby. There would be so much for him to see and touch. I think we would maybe do 2 days there. I would be perfectly fine skipping a majority of the rides. It would be more for the experience for our son than for us. Plus the staff there are fantastic and I think they’ll love seeing a baby lol. If we go I’m sure we’ll dress him up because that’s a big thing in Tokyo

I’m hoping we can keep cranking out the videos. I’m excited just to watch our TDR videos 😀

I’m team take the baby to Tokyo Disneyland lol it would be so cute to dress him up and stuff. Also, for a positioning flight you can do LAX and do a quick trip to Disneyland lol

We took my older one to amsterdam at 14 months and he did just fine. Slept on top of me the whole way, but that’s generally my kids preferred position. Why sleep anywhere else when I can suffocate mom lol.

I want to do Japan, but I think we’ll go in 2022 which will be my 40th. Kids will be 10 and 5 and I hope my daughter will sleep by 5 lol. I still figure there’s a 50/50 chance aome is halfway on top of me

Also you should talk the baby to tdr and dress him in a Duffy outfit lol.

Lol we won’t do Disneyland in LAX. We talked about it and decided we’d rather not. I do think he would be super cute at TDR though

Here's another question....

Do I have to stay under 5/24 if I decide I want to PC to from the CIP to the CIC. Or is it normally recommended to apply for the CIC as well? (which means I would need to be under 5/24). I'm asking because my 0% cards are about to get hit with fees. I qualify for the BOA 0/0% card again. So I'd like to apply for that and transfer my balances at least once more time before I just pay them off fully. If I apply for that I bump my being under 5/24 back to May 2020. Which I can likely hold off on applying for the CIC until May, there's no rush on getting it. But it means holding off on other personal cards until after then too. I need to hit my $5k spend on the CIP (but Staples will help with that, LOL).

When you PC do you get any of the offers (like the 0% that the CIC offers for a year)? I'm thinking it might just make sense to apply for the CIC and get that offer if I can anyways.

I'm just trying to plan out the cards I'm looking to get next. I don't really see any personal Chase I have to have. I know people love the Hyatt, but I never stay at them. And I never fly SW as I feel like they don't have a ton of direct out of DTW. The cards I'm looking at would be a personal citi AA, barclay biz AA (though they hate me), hilton no fee.

My 5/24 date was 11/21/19, currently my next drop is 5/14/20, then 10/3/20 and 12/15/20. So the nice part is that I have a nice run of clearing coming up, LOL.

We watched some videos last night of what to expect and tips for a one year old on plane trips. We watched 3 different videos of 1 year olds on long haul flights (all girls for some reason) and not one was shown crying. Although that could be the parents deciding what to show. One couple said their little girl slept 9 1/2 hours! I’m just hoping he won’t be too much of a bother to others in business class.

I was wanting to wait until 2022 for the expansion but I think we should probably go when we know for sure we can go. Idk how 2022 will look. I would love to dress him up at Duffy or Gelatoni. Idk it that’s something we can buy ahead of time or if we should make it ourselves

I’ve never flown business class, and I know you have, but the only thing to be aware of is if the kid has their own seat, they have to be seated in that seat and buckled for takeoff and landing. The can remove you from the plane if the child won’t stay there. In a regular Southwest seat I can put my hand on their lap and help keep them seated. I’m not sure how divided the business class seats are, if the baby would be unable to see or reach you and be upset

I’m sure there’s someone on Etsy selling baby Duffy outfits. You can buy anything online haha

With ANA it kind of depends on if we get a new plane or not. The older design is a little more restrictive and would be harder to see the baby unless he’s in the window seat. The newer design has a partition in between the two middle seats that can be dropped down and would work perfect for us. I’m hoping by next May they would have them on the majority of the routes. Dh is completely against PE for whatever reason (I think he’s spoiled).

Alright....help me out here, would love to bulk up on some free travel.
We have excellent credit, probably haven't opened more than 2 cards in the past 24 months. Typically I use my Chase preferred for everything except a few specific retailers. Pay off balance monthly. I have about 30k points for chase right now. We don't have any big plans right now except Disney (with APs) for the next year. We live in Tampa so we drive but do several long weekends throughout the year. Go to hotel is Swan/Dolphin (Marriott) or Disney. I don't have any specific travel cards right now. We tend not to fly more than 1 time per year (but still expensive for a family of 4) top airline choices are southwest and delta.

So what should I do?
TIA

That looks super fancy lol. I’ll likely never see it, as I have read that getting 4 award tickets in business on the same flight will be next to impossible. Maybe when my kids grow up and move out. Retirement goals lol

Jumping in to say this is my DD3 as well so you're not alone! She's 3.5. I spend yesterday changing a trip in early March from San Antonio to Austin. First priority: finding a room with 2 bedrooms because DD3 sleeps so poorly. One for me and DD3, one for DH and DD6. It will end eventually right?!

For those that have been to Hawaii, I am looking for some luau recommendations. We'll be in Maui for 5 days and then staying at Aulani for 5 days. After my research I'm leaning towards:

a) Drums of the Pacific Luau at the Hyatt Regency (Maui). We'll be staying there for 2 nights.

Ooh, you will be so close (just a couple of miles) to the Old Lahaina Luau. That one is in an absolutely stunning location, the food was great, and there are activities for the keiki as well. It is pricey, but worth it, imho.
