I was thinking the same. Has anyone overseas tried joining a BG for their family/friends thru MDE? Back-up from home would help those without data if wi-fi stinks on their HS day.

We know people have done it out of state, let's see about out of country. The timing's convenient for UK to help, it'll be lunchtime there for ropedrop.
Shouldn't be any different whether you're in the US or not.

We missed our TSMM FP bec the SR standby had a posted wait of 35-45 minutes and it was much longer than that. The CM at TSMM had no problem with it. Another time we spoke to a GET CM in HS who changed our late morning Soarin FP to an all-day Soarin FP. (Our BG looked like it would get called exactly when our FP started).

When we were there, regular BGs were lasting 15-30 minutes. We got BG 50, 62 at open while others got 8, 16 at the same time. Extrapolate that a little further and you could easily be at 100 while your neighbor gets 50. Factor in unanticipated down time, and I'd just aim to get what you can get, hopefully in the AM, and rearrange your day after that.

This is my anxiety kicking in. We are only at DHS for 1 morning (till about 5pm before hopping to Epcot for the new temp nighttime show). We fly in the day before with a half day at MK. We leave the next day for DCL. Not back for another 16-18 months. I'm not concerned about missing a FP. We did most SWGE stuff in DL in June, but we do have a back-to-back Oga's (which we didn't do back then) and Droid Depot (DS7 gets his turn since DS11 had his). Oga's is 9:50 and DD is 10:40. Those 2 things cannot just be missed or cancelled like a FP. I am assuming that Park opening will change from the current 9 am to at least 8, maybe 7, and I also assume that the current BG booking logjam at 7 will ease at least a little more (there already seems to be some progress on this, to being 8-15 minutes instead of 90 seconds). So, hopefully, we don't run into this problem, but my dear is that if we get a BG, that it would just happen to begin boarding with a 2-hour window between 9:45-11:45ish.

Thanks @yulilin3 for tagging me on all the important info (and others for sharing info too!). 12 minutes to grab a regular BG seems pretty reasonable (vs. some days last week) so that's great! The delayed opening was not a good start but they seem to be recovering nicely so far.

We do not have ANY source for total # of BGs issued, do we? That's the one figure that has been elusive, since we don't really know on any given day if they got through ALL of the BGs or not. And of course our DISers are mostly savvy folks getting regular BGs so we aren't a good group for that data. I'd love to know what BG they were handing out at 9am yesterday for example, and did that person get to ride? Oh well, perhaps we can't know everything.

Here's a quick glance at today vs. yesterday, I'll add total BGs tonight and post "the chart" in full then:

Waking up tomorrow is going to be brutal. We arrived last night (this morning) at 12:30 am from the west coast and got to BLT a little before 2 am. I set the alarm for 9 am this morning since we are switching rooms, and it was brutal. 5:30ish tomorrow is going to hurt. I'm glad to hear there were a few more minutes of regular boarding groups though. I'll still be stressed, but maybe not quite as much :) Off to the expo to pick up race bibs, etc. Thanks to all for great reports. I can't believe I've been following this thread for over a month, but it's been fantastic. I will report back tomorrow!

I was just thinking the same thing, this would be such an interesting data point. If they are consistently getting through all the regular and back up boarding groups, and backups are available well past park open, that would probably ease the minds of a lot of people about this process.

I have a clarification question (and I did read much of the thread and did a search!). I understand that if your BG is not called, you receive a one-day DHS ticket and an FP. Can the FP be used for ROTR or would you still need to secure a BG on that second day? TIA

It’s good for ROTR. And this is only if it’s a guaranteed group. Backup groups do not get guest recovery.

The fp can be used for any attraction including RotR, you only get this if you had a regular bg not a backup. Although some have reported they got afp with a backup bg once they went to guest relations

Thank you both. Hopefully, things will have calmed down a little before our trip in March!

Happy New year everyone! I'm trying to keep up with the thread as much as possible but have a couple of questions still:

1) Does anyone what time in the morning they buses/skyliner will get to DHS? I'm trying to get there at least an hour ahead to get situated. Will that be an issue or do I need to Uber? (I'm staying at the Riviera).

2) Sunday DHS has Extra Magic Hours from 8:00pm - 10:00pm. Does anyone know if RoTR will be open and how that will work?

Thanks!!!

1 - Buses have started rolling quite early we've seen reports of 5h30ish... Skyliner not so much.
2 - RotR is not open during EMH (for now)

What are the chances next weeks 8am opening time will be changed to earlier, and has the app historically reflected an accurate opening time? I’m in the middle of planning my strategy.

That’s not really enough time between Oga’s and the Droid Depot, unless you plan on taking drinks to go. It can take up to 20mn to get in (though you can also be let in within minutes), and sometimes it‘s 10-20mn before you are served. I’d push back the Depot reservation or show up first thing and ask to build early- not usually too busy first thing in the morning.

They are at bg 126 at 7:14. This has to be a good sign!

Sayhello
Went to HS on Monday the 6 th of January. We entered the park about 6:30 am I got concerned that both of us might not be on a VG so I was checking on that at 7 am. Bad move. At 7:03 I was assigned VQ 117. The lady next to me got VG 40 at 7 am. Our group came up close to 7 pm Monday night. We had already given up by mid afternoon and drove home. We will go back on Monday the 13th when HS opens at 8 am instead of 7 am. Since we now completely understand how the VG assignments work, you can bet my finger will be on the button at exactly 8 am! We did do Star Tours which has changed since the Rise of SkyWalker came out. Didn't try Smugglers Run since we did that a couple of months ago and the line was 90 minutes early in the day. We also rode half of the Skyliner. The part going to Epcot was down which seems to be a common occurrence.

I'd normally say that with each passing day the chances decrease that they will move park hours. BUT this is an unprecedented ride opening, and who knows, they could change park hours 1 day in advance, they could open the park (and BGs) early on the fly at 7:36am day of because there's just too many people. Anybody who answers this has no idea - you'd get as qualified an answer from a Disney bus driver at this point.

I'm not saying this to be rude, just saying that I don't think there's anybody here that can give you an accurate answer. If there's an answer that you want to hear, tell me, and I can say that though! 😂 🤣

2. RotR is not open during EMH’s

Thanks everyone! This board has been a life saver! We go January 22-28 and although I'll be disappointed if I don't get a BG, I at least feel prepared!

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if MFSR is open during Extra Magic Hours?
