Then why doesn't Star Wars land have any reference to the original series? (aside from the Millenium Falcon, Chewbacca and light sabers)
Those aren't the only references (and one of the two rides involves RIDING the Falcon, which is no small thing) but my hunch is that they decided against building a land based on a 40 year old movie and thought basing it on recent movies was a better bet for the future. Whether that bet will work out is up for debate but there's no indication that they did this because they wanted to avoid licensing payments, since they continue to sell a whole lot of stuff from the original trilogy.

They somehow didn't let the age of the characters impact them on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

I would say that the decision making process around one roller coaster is a bit different than a billion dollar expansion for a movie series that is in the midst of finishing up a new trilogy.

Bounding Into Comics is a comicsgate adjacent fansite. Not the greatest source of news. Neither are any of the Fandom Menace Youtubers.

I find the Star Wars Explained channel to be the best source for Star Wars analysis. Club Jade is good for news.

Supposedly Joanna Robinson of Vanity Fair is reporting that D&D were let go from Star Wars back in May before they had their deal with Netflix and the announcement was delayed so they could shop their services without looking like they were let go. Also, she is saying that Feige will only report to Iger on his Star Wars movie. I say supposedly because this is from Robinson's Patreon only podcast which I don't subscribe to. So this is third hand at least.

That would seem to tie in with Iger's statements that he wanted to "fallow" Star Wars for awhile because of over-exposure. I think he intends to just kill the main series outright and just make "side" movies and series which will avoid any... "imperial entanglements"

I still think Luke came off pretty cool at the end of TLJ - brushing off his shoulder and all. Yeah, it was a projection, but it took immense power and it saved the day!

It was very cool. I just would prefer he had raised his X Wing and died in person. Or simply didn't die after the projection.

I mean he also could have projected and simply said "hey brainiacs, go out the back". Instead of I will die (from the comfort of my cave) getting their attention and hold them off for maybe 5 or 10 minutes at most.

Or have Leia go out for the 5 min stall to reason with her son, but he still kills her-since she was already dead for 9. Then you would have and irate Luke going into 9.

Or projected to the ship earlier and said to Hyperspace Ram the cruiser "Before" all but one ship remained.

She tweeted that the comments were taken out of context and were only meant to be speculation, not official reporting, and has since taken down the podcast.

I will admit, it did seem weird to see the x-wing but then not use it for anything. It's not a big deal to me. I do think I would have prefer that he not fade after the projection either, but obviously his Force ghost still has a few thing left to do, so who knows. I think Ep IX should smooth out the rough edges.

I took the sunken X-Wing to be metaphorical to when it sank at Degobah, and he tried giving up on the force.

yeah, but I think it could have worked if it was set up that he was isolating himself because he thought the world was better off that way - without the Jedi who in turn allowed the darkness to exist to create that balance ..... but then through the conversation with yoda he realized he is being just as pigheaded as the Jedi of old and thinking too highly of himself that it is up to him alone if the dark side emerges or not and that he should remember who he was - someone who didn't give up on his friends, etc.

And then raise the X-Wing himself (vs in Empire when Yoda did it) and went off to help out his friends

100%. :thumbsup2

And like I say, go die like a Jedi Master in person (then become a force ghost for 9).

Or if you want use the admittedly cool projection 5 min stall, simply have him not disappear, just sit there sweating.

A big problem I have with it is Mark is actually still in very good physical shape. He actually was in the "fight scene" and looked great for 40 years later.

The projection would have made way more sense if he was really decrepit, maybe like Lando (or even Ford) looks to be. Then I could also see him die at the end.

It's kind of like using an Avatar for Jake the disabled Marine. Not near the impact if he wasn't disabled, and was part of the reason he joined the Omaticaya permanently.

agreed - the projection made for a cool moment but ESPECIALLY after Carried passed away they should have not had Luke die but saved that

Part of me thinks that Luke will turn out to not actually be dead and the title of the movie is directly referring to Luke.

There's lots of things I'd like to have seen in TLJ. I'm kind of glad he didn't personally show up and start kicking ****. That would have been too placating to the fan boys for me. I still think even if he showed up in person and Rian decided to kill him off, there'd be outrage. There's no winning.

The rumor mill is full of stuff about Hayden making a return, and Anakin is the still the "one that will bring balance" to the Force. I think it's far fetched, but with JJ you never know.

definitely a big issue for Disney with these films is no matter what they did a portion of the fan based would be upset and think they are idiots for not creating the specific movie they wanted made

And if JJ can pull it off with Ep IX to at least make the vast majority of people happy (no way to make 100% since some people will be made just for the sake of being mad) then serious props to him - not an easy task

I will try to go in and just enjoy the film for what it is vs complain about what it isn't - just hope that is relatively easy for me to do :D

I could see that - personally I think more likely is that it is Kylo that brings balance and it is the force ghosts of Luke, Leia, and Anakin that speak to him about what was wrong about Vader and to not copy him but to be your own person, etc. ... and Rey is just the catalyst to bring that about. Not that it redeems Kylo fully, but he is more moderate - and shows how Anakin was the chosen one to bring about balance to the force - just through others
