i think the movie is going to make a ton of money, but I’m not buying these numbers. I just checked my local Marcus and AMC theaters and didn’t see one sold out showing opening night. Lots of available seats. Opening night for Endgame was already sold out for every opening showing at this point near me.

I will never understand this bizarre feud between Marvel and Star Wars that some people insist on having.

Disney wins no matter which film makes more money. Marvel was the original publisher of the comics in the 70’s, so it’s not like a feud ever existed between Lucas and Marvel.

Exactly! It's a ridiculous comparison any way you look at it.

It is not a feud on for me. I prefer Star Wars. The numbers they were first announcing for sale numbers just weren’t matching the reality I was seeing when I went to buy tickets.

I maybe shouldn't have quoted you, tbh. I just did because you were making a comparison.

I don't know if it's fair to apply your anecdotal experience to everywhere, however.

Just remember Solo a Star Wars Story was the highest pre-seller in history.

And it grossed 450 million

Then Endgame beat Solo

And it grossed 2.7 Billion

Pre sale tickets are “meaningless”. What creates really large grosses are repeat viewers. I watched The Force Awakens 24 times (kept going until it was pulled from theaters in my area March) and it grossed 2.1 billion. I watched Rogue One and The Last Jedi once and they gross just 1 and 1.3 billion.

The key is repeat viewers and we won’t know about that until February.

I know I've personally got tix to three showings of TROS already, so we'll see.

I'll be getting back to you on other comments you've made anyway, so yes, we'll see.

Thanks for pointing this out - I think people forget about this! Off topic really but it's like most animated features that Disney release. Toy Story 4 was the biggest, Frozen will steal that in a few weeks etc etc. It just goes on and on.

Posting my thought on this here as not to clog up the news thread.

I think this is a clear sign that Kevin Feige is now in all but name running Lucas Films right now. Kennedy's choices to lead the new story have been allowed/encouraged to walk away. It has already been announced that Feige is producing a new Star Wars movie. The guy that runs what is currently Disney most financially and critically successful franchise is going to answer to anyone at Lucas Films. Feige just got total creative control over Marvel. Feige is not going to follow a story arc or creative direction from Kennedy much less The Story Group. Feige is now completely in charge of and responsible for where Star Wars goes after Rise of Skywalker.

I’m not so sure. I do think though that Feige will have a role with Star Wars but he’s not running the place.

I also think maybe Star Wars is announcing things too early meaning wait until things are in actual development before doing so. They did this with the Obi Wan series. It was rumored forever but they waited until they had actual things set. I think that’s the route they need to take more often.

I'm hoping Feige continues with the Star Wars storyline (Episode X, etc) it sounds like Iger et al wanted to move away from that and just release "star wars" movies like the Marvel style but I think that affects the entire series concept.

I don't think Feige is going to be running the day to day operations at Lucasfilm. I do think he has been given the complete power to fix it creatively on the film side. The guy who just got total creative control at Marvel isn't jumping into the mess of warring fandoms and the creative process mess Star Wars movies have become without total control to take the franchise where he wants to take it creatively. He isn't going into a situation where Kennedy would be Isaac Perlmutter. He has already fought and won that kind of war.

I don't think Feige will only be in charge of righting the Star Wars ship. I expect it will be announced soon enough that he will be a producer on the next Indiana Jones movie. At this point I think he is the only person that Iger would trust rebooting that franchise and avoiding what happened with Star Wars. Getting that of the ground has been a multi year mess.

At this rate Indy is going to be using his whip to propel his wheelchair! :)

I don't understand why they don't at least put Dave Filoni in charge of the story direction - He's surely proven himself with Clone Wars and the Rebels (less so with Resistance but I suspect that's more due to management demands on what the series should be rather than Filoni himself)

I doubt this has anything to do with Feige. The Netflix deal was announced months ago, and Disney and Netflix are now enemies. They likely just wanted them on one side or the other. Feige coming in may have been in response to their imminent departure. Personally, I think I'd rather Feige stay with Marvel and not spread himself too thin.

I’m not so sure Disney will give that much to Feige. They certainly don’t want Marvel to start to decline. His focus should remain there. I know we have gone back and forth on the creative vision of Star Wars since disney bought it but I am one who is a fan of the new stuff. I’m completely fine with where things are.

I am all for Filoni getting more power at Lucasfilm.
