Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

What I read was it was for some updates of some kind. All I saw was a screenshot, looked to maybe been operating hours posted on the app, not sure.

The operating schedule is in the link I provided from wdwmagic's blog. Wonder if rteetz has any additional info? On the wdwmagic forums yesterday he was seemingly hinting he knew it was going to open today (or at least very soon).

Maybe that's when they put the numbers on the bottom..as they leave the station it will be easy

While I hope for guests at WDW that they open sooner than later, running the lines is zero indication that they are close to opening. We were there for 5 days in April and 10 days in September and both of those trips we watched the gondolas run almost constantly. We stay at Pop so could see them from within the resort as well as each time we were on the bus.

it will take more than running the lines to indicate that they are ready to reopen.

UPDATE:

LOL!! Looks like I was completely wrong! Skyliner is open!!

The little birdie never lies...
There have been a lot of little birdies around here spouting knowledge that can’t be believed this past week. I had no indication who ‘the little birdie ‘ was when I added my post so I’ll stand behind it based on the knowledge I had at the time. 😊

Interesting operating schedule over the next few days. All lines open 8AM-10:30PM today. HS closed on 10/16 with the other lines open 1PM-10:30PM. Then all 3 lines open 1PM to 10:30PM on 10/17 & 10/18. Wonder what the reasoning is behind that.

Looks like the report is that it is for "system updates" ... though interesting they don't just take care of those before oping with the modified schedule - which makes me wonder if just "excuse" for restarting it with someone limited opening (almost like a "soft re-opening")

The Disney Skyliner will be open from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. but system updates later this week will result in the following modified operating hours:
  • October 16-18: October 16: The Disney Hollywood Studios line will be closed while the other two lines will be available from 1 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
  • October 17-18: All lines will be open from 1 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

Funny I have no hesitation riding the monorail even with my kids, despite its shaky track record. DH and I arrive next week without kids, but I’m unsure if we’ll ride! Staying at BWV so it’s just a ride to check it out. Glad the option is back though!

Anyone want to start a pool for when the Skyliner re-opens? Pick a date, closest to the actual date wins Internet bragging points.

I'm going with Jan 15th, 2020

Well done mom2rtk. You win the "Wisdom of the Crowd" award. Please feel free to bask in your internet fame for the rest of the day.

Received this photo from a co-worker at 8:20 this morning. She and her family got to Pop yesterday. We were just talking in my office Friday about hoping Skyliner opened for her trip. Glad it did! DH and I will be there Saturday, so we’ll check it out too.

I wonder if the software update is to change how the lines and stations start back up after a full stop/start situation. I guess it would make sense that it was already done on the Epcot line first, since that is where they had the issue (and maybe where they are most likely to run into that exact situation due to the nature of the station). Then I wonder if HS will be down all day wednesday to do the update to that lines software and do testing of that line. That only leaves the POP/AOA line, just interesting that line won't be down for a full day like HS (at the moment).

My guess is they need to finish marking the bottom of the gondolas.
We were at the Texas State Fair this weekend. There are gondolas there. It’s funny because I looked up to see if the numbers were on the bottom of the gondolas after all this discussion on here about the fact that the Disney ones didn’t have numbers on the bottom. FTR, there were numbers on the bottom of the ones at the fair.

I would like to think that they have .... have they informed the public in any official or detailed fashion of what the issues was? No, no they have not

I don’t know that we are going to get a detailed report. Whenever the monorails go down, I’ve yet to see a detailed report on the specific issue made public, how they fixed it, and what safeguards were put in place to avoid it happening again. I’m not saying it doesn’t exist nor am I commenting on what I think should or should not be made public, but I’ve never seen a detailed report released.

NEWS

Statement from Disney about the reopening of the Skyliner (via Disney Parks Blog)

"We know many of you have been looking for an update on Disney Skyliner and are glad to share that it has reopened to guests today. Following a complete review with the manufacturer, we’ve made adjustments to our processes and training, and we are improving how we communicate with guests during their flight with Disney Skyliner. We again offer our deepest apologies to the guests impacted by the malfunction that resulted in extended operating delays on Oct. 5. "
