I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

Well after my back and forth last night I ended up ordering Cold Stone Creamery through Grub Hub tonight to use my Gold credit. My parents stopped by unexpectedly for dinner and that seemed an easy dessert and a nice surprise. My dad proclaimed it the “best ice cream I have ever had” and asked about what I was saying regarding a credit on a credit card. I generally explained but did not make an effort. These are the people after all who despite my attempts finally signed my mom up for her own card. It was the Delta Gold...at the airport...when it was an all time low offer. Some battles are just not worth fighting.

Count me in on Team In and Out. I find 5 Guys too greasy. And I had a 40% offer off on my CSR. (It is like Chase senses my disdain).

https://www.barclaycardus.com/apply...-619e-4adc-94bc-c5c16985bc98&hctky=1704606708
EDIT: I do believe this matches the all-time high offer on this card...

The offer for this card has been all over the board recently. Per DoC the link above should have this offer:
Earn up to 75,000 AAdvantage® bonus miles
  • Earn 65,000 miles after spending $1,000 in the first 90 days
  • Earn 10,000 miles when a purchase is made on an employee card
  • The $95 Annual Fee is NOT waived
Just a reminder that this card carries some odd baggage with it:
  • Some people have reported significant issues getting approved (asking for biz documentation and such) - Others have not had that issue
  • Barclays can be weird about churners - some get caught up in too many accounts/too many inquires - others don't
  • The website is a TRAIN WRECK
YMMV on the issues here but figured I'd put it out there - here is DoC's full writeup:

This is the same offer I app'ed for my dh last week or so. Still haven't heard a yay or nay. Crazy thing is he's been denied 2x for this card. He only has (and has ever had) one Barclay card that he actually uses a lot. He's only 3/24 so not a huge number of recent cards. I don't get them.

My question is how do you guys have time to read books and keep up with this hobby!?! The last two years I read 50 books a year. This year....11.
Apparently this hobby is impacting my reading habit too. I thought I was on a similar pace as last year, but according to my GoodReads entries I’m actually a few books behind. I’ll blame it on trip research! Rick Steves’ travel books take way longer to read when you’re cross referencing the Chase travel site.

It’s funny you mention this. I read 57 books last year and I’m only at 27 this year, mostly all on audio. I did used to always have one on my kindle for before bed or waiting rooms but I find myself checking this thread or reddit instead. I really started back up into churning in April and that’s just about when I slowed down on reading.

I’ve actually been trying to make a more conscience effort to read a bit more. Just so hard when there are points on the table!

I’m super behind on my reading, but I definitely can’t blame churning. Now I’m cross stitching obsessed lol. My best friend found me a huge box of cross stitch supplies for $4 at Goodwill and brought them over tonight. I just spent 3 hours organizing all my new colors

I'm Team In & Out too. Just don't care for 5 Guys plus the peanuts are a problem for us cause my dd19 has a severe peanut allergy. I had the 40% back at 5 Guys offer too and didn't bother using.

Sad fact though, we don't have In & Out yet. Supposedly we are getting one but we don't know when or where. Nothing cool ever goes in by us anyways cause I live in an area of metro Denver where not much growth can happen due to protected space so our population just isn't as dense in my area.

I’m new to the Gold so I’m curious about your last statement there. Is the concern that it won’t track because it’s the last day of the month?
It might be too close to the end of the month for it to credit to September. I've pushed it to about three days before the end of the month once before. I did get the credit dated the first of the next month. I worried that it counted for the following month rather than the month I made my purchase, however I grabbed a GC that month and it credited as well so all was well. I just try not to push too close to the end of the month.

Yeah. I just don't know the last time I checked in where they didn't want that card or another for incidentals, so I was surprised to see it on mine vs MILs from when they checked in

I think it mostly stems to not being a real big burger person overall, mainly. I don't like the fries at 5 guys but I'm super picky and not much of a fry eater anyways :)
I dislike Five Guy's fries as well, at least HERE. In DC they were thin and perfect, loved them. Found a Five Guys once we moved to Texas and the fries were thick, not nearly as good. I don't know if they changed them company wide at that time, between my various regions visits or if they are truly different here. I mean, I know things are "bigger are in Texas", but I don't need my fries bigger :rotfl:

As for In-n-Out, I don't care much for the California version :confused3 I can't tell you what's different, but the burgers between Texas and California were definitely different. I'll keep my Texas In-n-Out. I do plan to visit a CA location again to compare once more, but from my first trial, Texas is better.

Next year I likely will have to address the original windows on my main floor-most of them are not functional and are the rope and weight type. Ideally I would have them restored vs. replaced but will have to see price wise what is going to be best. The joys of owning a old home!

When I redid the kitchen in my NC house and took it to the studs I found the old weights they'd left when they replaced the windows. I probably should I figured out what to do with them but just gave them to a neighbor that wanted them.

Work is what gets in the way of my reading more than the boards. I read at work on my lunch break and on the weekends mostly. It's hard during the week because I'm either catching up on tv after the gym or I'm trying to stay awake until bed time :) My problem lately is the books are so long, the current two are 400+ and almost 500 which is also 400+ but the + is way more than the first one.

Different suppliers, you're getting different beef than CA.

ETA - clarification

MSR Sunday-
P1 - me - Nothing at this time, finished up AA biz a few weeks ago.
P2 - $4000 left on CIP

P3 - Just transferred her 80,000 URs to our account as payback from her Australia ticket.
Approved for a CFU today. Only a $500 limit though. She did not want anything more than a $500 spend.
P4 - will try for either a CIP or a CFU within the next month probably. Will let DD(P3) get the support for whatever she signs up for.

I'll have a P4 in less than a year! Funny the things we get excited about lol

That would make a bit of a difference, but I almost feel like it was thicker so not quite cooked the same. The ratio of meat to cheese completely matters to me on some burgers lol

I am not really getting anything from them besides support clicks. And I will let them support each other, so I will only get 1 from them for any card. And I practically had to force DD(P3) again to sign up for the new card today. I feel bad pushing it on her, but she could use the money/points, so I think it is a win/win for her. I wish this was around when I was a poor starving college student!

Happy Sunday! Churning up date-just finishing up my CIP MSR. Not really sure what my next card will be, a few things have changed so the Hawaii trip I was collecting some points for is not going to happen on my original timeline. Just going to work on optimizing my spend for now. If you haven't max'd out q3 categories for Freedom and Discover the next day will be your last chance. I'm planning to do some of my charitable giving with my discover as some of my typical charities use paypal. I was able to redeem a bunch of URs through Hyatt, and this is one of my favorite ways to redeem UR's, and a great redemption value.

Unfortunately, sometimes expenses and projects just keep building up, I spent most of my day repairing a couple windows-6 trips to different hardware stores...thankfully I have the lowes offer on one of my amex's so is helping lessen some of the blow. I have a handyman coming to do some other assorted projects around the house, hopefully this coming week. Trying to trim my list to just a few manageable things to get done before winter. Next year I likely will have to address the original windows on my main floor-most of them are not functional and are the rope and weight type. Ideally I would have them restored vs. replaced but will have to see price wise what is going to be best. The joys of owning a old home!
I actually liked the original windows in my last (1950s) house. Our current house was “updated” way too much. It’s a 1920s brick Chicago bungalow. What I suspect was an arch between living and dining rooms was removed, along with crown molding. Windows are new and ugly. Bathroom is new and too fancy for me and was expanded by removing the chimney, requiring a direct vent furnace and hot water heater. The kitchen wasn’t original but was hideous and had 5 layers of flooring. We did gut it and tried to give back some charm with subway tile and maple cabinets but so much detail is missing.

I’m starting to hear some really good things about Carnival. I have to admit I always assumed it was a younger party crowd but clearly I was wrong. Glad to hear you’ve had a great experience as well.
It absolutely used to have more of the younger party crowd than others because it was the cheapest option. I’m glad to see reports it’s changed/changing now but they had a rep for a reason back in the day.

In-N-Out has different distribution centers in CA and TX so you’re getting meat/toppings/potatoes that are indeed different from CA’s.
ETA @afan beat me to it. Knowing about In N Out is just part of being Californian lol!
