This is why I love the Disboards, thank you for listening to my rambling and offering sound advice! :disrocks:

With all of my thinking, I didn’t think to consider some of the suggestions offered above. I wouldn’t make up that 30,000 points in the category spend on the CIC. Thinking about the AF as points made me realize even with the AF it’s still a decent bonus. My CSP annual fee just came up again, but now I’d be willing to pay both for a year to gain the extra points.

Now that I’m realizing I could PC the CIP to the CIC, it seems a lot easier than PCing the CSP down and then applying for the CIC later. I think the CSP would be more beneficial to keep vs the CIP. Then in the end I could still get the CIC for the bonus categories.

I do have the Disc It, and I’m coming to the close of my first year with it. Ive been very happy with that card! I have the AmEx Blue Cash for 2% on gas and 3% on groceries if they aren’t bonus categories on another card. I also have the TD Cash card for 3% dining if it isn’t a bonus category on another card (those points can be redeemed for DGC which is a nice easy way to get those). I also have the BOA card that I can change the 3% category on as needed each month. These could hold me over until I’m further under 5/24. That could help me reevaluate the Costco card as well.

Decision made - I’ll apply for the CIP. The next hurdle is being accepted! :rotfl:

Thanks again everyone!
Sending :tinker: You are approved

I would grab it - I don't see any refundable rooms (unless I'm looking in the wrong place)... If the resort fees weren't so crazy I'd consider booking there for that weekend. I'm going with my running buddies for a girl's weekend for the Wine & Dine races, and I booked back in March at CBR, and Pirate rooms were all they had. We were hoping for fall discounts for either better rooms or a price reduction, and got neither. I'm sure the skyliner is partially affecting that.

At least I'm splitting the room cost with 2 other people o_O
Yeah it’s crazy! I hate that my birthday falls like that because I know that’s a busy weekend at wdw. I did look two weekends before and after (Dh gets every other Friday off). October 17-20 I didn’t see as much but November 14-17 had more options. Both were still pretty pricey though

New IHG Premier card offer: 125k for 3k spend, $89 AF not waived, plus bonus earnings in the first year -

If you have paid stays at IHG in the next 12 months, it's a pretty good earnings rate offer on top of the bonus points -
Earn 40X total points at IHG® Hotels & Resorts worldwide for the first 12 months from account opening when you combine IHG® card benefits with existing IHG® Rewards Club member benefits
  • Earn 25X points for the first 12 months as an IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Cardmember - after that, 10X points at IHG® Hotels and Resorts*jumps to associated footnote
  • Earn 10X points from IHG® for being an IHG® Rewards Club Member
  • Earn 5X points from IHG® with Platinum Elite Status, a benefit of this card*
(Normally it's 25 total between the card and the rewards program.)
Also doubled the category spend from 2x to 4x.

After quick search on DoC I think the previous best for this card was 100k + $50 statement credit for the same spend. There was a tiered offer for 120k, but that was after 5k total.

Edit: And the good people on r/churning found the link for 125k + $50 statement credit offer version.

To anyone interested in the Aspire. I was able to combine my free award night with points nights all under one reservation. I did not have to make two reservations as I had read on some websites. My free night arrived exactly 9 weeks after my upgrade. The 250 dollar resort credit posted 5 days after checking out of the resort. Not the 8-12 weeks Amex says it could take. My bonus posted two days after meeting spend. So far I'm pretty happy with American express........ Knock on wood.

Give it a couple weeks, you'll swing back

Most of us have a love/hate relationship going on with AmEx. All lovey dovey one minutes, keying cars a few minutes later, then kissy face in the parking lot after. It's a bit dysfunctional but seems to work so far :confused3

But good to hear that all worked well for you! That's how this hobby should be :)

Interesting timing. I was just looking at my IHG stuff, thinking I am cancelling my current card after my free night stay in 3 weeks. Also looking at using my measly points left for a gift card. Now I see this. Seems to be a pretty decent offer and I am closing in on the end of my current MSR. Gotta do some thinking, about what to do next, and if I want to burn a spot for this. Dh is only 1/24 currently I think.

Guys I just pulled up a Platicorn offer for me on cardmatch <faints>

I have it open on my laptop while I write this in my phone lol

Do I go for it? From memory (also ancient Discover and non rewards Citi; dh just got the Amex Gold)

07/18 CF
09/18 CSR
12/18 SW Priority
02/19 SW Biz
06/19 CIP

So when I get home I get to call Chase Travel, because I was trying to book a flight late on the app last night and I BOOKED THE WRONG DAY :badpc: What was I doing????
If it makes you feel better, my mom and I were once on our way to Schiphol airport in Amsterdam for our flight home when she realized she booked her flight for exactly one month later.

So this would put you at 4/24?

Yeah until next July

Next thought for Sept/Oct had either been a CIC or CIP2

No plans on using MR in the next 12-18 months; thinking Africa for 2021

(I hate typing on mobile)

Edit: and what did I say yesterday about Amex FOMO?!
You can get a card later to "park" the MR, so using it far off isn't an issue - more important now is will you need that 100k for Africa later and it worth plunking down the $5 hundred something AF right now? With what I recall of your current plans the perks may be useful in the meanwhile so it's probably not a horrible choice to go for it if you can handle the AF and spend right now. In your shoes I might just do it.

I've been using Chase and Capital one the last 3-4 years. I have had no experience with Amex since Citi took over Costco. My Aspire card is actually my oldest CC account. It's an upgrade from an old Hilton card I got in 2002 that's been in the sock drawer since 2003. Since it's my oldest account I'll never cancel it, therefore I'm glad I'm happy with it so far.
I just got my Marriott business. The CL is 25k. I was shocked by that. Amex has been pretty stingy with the CL's on my personal cards. My highest one is 5,100. My Capital one Venture has a 30k limit and most of Chase cards are 10-25k.

Went to the “good” staples today and they didn’t have any $200 GCs out. The rack is a magnet and opens so I opened it up and they had stacks and stacks of $200 cards. Grabbed a stack put a few on the shelf and went to buy $1600. The guy said that there is a limit of two? But he will let me buy them all. Now do I go back tomorrow though?
