*** The Official August 2019 thread ***

Awww, we're going to miss you by just a few days. We fly out on the 20th :(

Well, I guess I can't speak for any other men, but yes mam, this man certainly is capable of packing his own bag, and does every time we go anywhere. If something I need is going to be left behind, it will be my fault, not anyone else's. Not only do I pack my bag, but I am involved in keeping track of what my wife packs, and I packed my son's bag as well.

I couldn't care less what the crowd calendar says. The crowds will be what they will be, and I will do what I am doing regardless of them. I have a plan, I have FP in place, and I will have an amazing time whether the crowds are crazy light, or just crazy.

Double :(:(
Not only does my man pack his own clothes he shops for them as well. He requests that I go with him for "opinions" but secretly I think he likes the compliments :love2:
This sounds like a perfect T shirt, I'll take a Small!

as I heard that online requests override all other requests.
Correct they will not show in there. And yes they will erase the called in ones if you do pick any online. Have a great trip! 15 days for us!
I made my request when booking the trip via phone. On my checkin page, there are no options at all. It states "Select" and when I click on the drop down, nothing is there. One blank box. Thats it. Should I call again?

I would "like" to have a certain building/floor, but Ive stayed there many times, always got what I wanted and am already prepared if I dont get it, it will be a good opportunity to try something different. There is only one building I really dont want. Should I just let it be and let the stars align as they will?!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong! I think you only get room drop-down options if you pay for an upgraded room. The only time we had options to select from is when we paid extra for a preferred room at All-Star Movies. Then we had drop-down options to choose what section we stayed at, what floor, close to the elevators, that type of thing.

So... basically, I think if you pay a little more, you get to make your requests first. Everyone else can ask, but the online choices people make (made by people who paid for them) take precedent.

At the hotel Im staying at, there are many different room categories. While Im not in the top category, Im not in the bottom either. Not sure how that would work in my case. There are several buildings with my "view" (Lagoon) and I am hoping for a particular one. Below my category are Standard, Garden and Pool/Marina views and above is Theme Park view. (then of course Club Level, Suites and Bungalows).

I know it will be sweltering, buckets of rain will fall from the sky, and crowds of people will be everywhere when we go to WDW in 12 days. Do I still look at the weather sites and at various crowd calendars? Yes. Yes, I do. My husband claims that some people obsess over things. (That's me. I'm some people.) Can't help it. Just how I am. So, will a bad weather report or a high number on a crowd calendar ruin my trip? Heck no! Will I keep reading this board obsessively and checking weather and crowd predictions? Yep. That's just how I pre-Disney.

I am also some people! LOL!
DH does NO planning it's all me. I love to read the boards and check crowd calendars. He doesn't. Works for us!

My husband does all of his own packing. He always has done it. He usually packs twice as many shirts as he needs but I don't interfere. ;)

My husband does all his own clothes shopping, too. He likes to shop more than I do. :)

We have a standard view room booked at the Beach Club and we have drop down options. I don't think there is any consistent rules for the options that resorts offer. And they frequently change, too. :)

So, I don't put a lot of faith in weather forecasts, especially not more than 3 days out, but . . . . just checked the forecast for our first two days in Florida, and they are both predicted to be in the 80's . .. . 80's, in August? I will be beyond words if this actually happens!

Yes, our arrival day is supposed to be 86! We're not going to the parks that day, though... it sure would be amazing if another day or two would stay in the mid-80s!

You know, I wouldn’t have believed it either, but we’ve been in Orlando for the past 2 days and it’s definitely not the sweat fest that we’re used to in August.

One of my favorite places! Think Nomad is number one. I also think I miss you by a day or two? Hoping to get to see @chunkymonkey though!
I think Nomad and Jock's are tied for us! Geyser Point & Territory Lounge aren't far behind :goodvibes
Yes pretty sure we do miss you by just a day unfortunately, I do hope you get to see Su-Lynn! We're hoping to catch up with them on the 19th :thumbsup2

Question for all you frequent travelers! How long do you need to make sure to be to the Orlando airport for a morning flight back on a weekday?

Some cities I've flown out of, you need closer to 3 hours to be safe. Others are fine at 90 minutes. Just wondering what you thought.

Magical express picks you up 3 hours prior to your flight!!

How's the walk-up availability at Storybook Dining at Artist Point? My DH is only with me for 2 days on this trip, and since he's a big Grumpy fan, I really want to do this meal. However, the only time that really works for us is 4 pm on Saturday the 17th. No availability right now, and I've got the touringplans ADR finder going, but has anyone had any luck just walking up and asking for a table? It's only the two of us... *crosses fingers*

Question

If you've done BOG lunch on the QSDP, can you order lunch and a cupcake for dessert using a dining credit AND a snack credit? I want to pre-order before we leave on our trip so it would be better to know this in advance. Thanks!

We used a car service last summer, and they picked us up 2 hours prior for a morning flight. I was very concerned that we wouldn't make it through security because MCO is so busy, but we were fine. If we had been driving a rental car to MCO, I would have given ourselves 3 hours.

Getting closer to the all important single digit dance. This is usually when I start thinking about the weather; but our last 2 trips we had really good weather. When it rained it was a normal quick shower only it only rained once when we were in a park. Cleared the place out and we walked on to some rides. Hoping for the same. Really just praying no named storms develop. Been there done that.

I'm figuring hot, humid, afternoon showers. Just really praying Happily Ever After doesn't get cancelled the night we plan to watch it. I don't think much about crowds. I think it has to do with the fact that our first trip was during Thanksgiving week. We started out with crowds at 9 and 10. I don't imagine we'd experience anything like that again unless we went during the holidays again. Much to my son's disappointment, we're leaving before the Star Wars area opens. I told him we'd see it in 2020.

Took my children shopping yesterday. I think between what we bought last night and what I've ordered online they are good as far as school clothes. I don't get supplies until after each open house.

Tomorrow we're getting together with my mom to hand over her stuff that I purchased and go over some details. I'm also going to check our clothes and other items against my packing list to make sure we have everything. Over the next week I need to pick up gift cards, schedule ds for a haircut and get our travel sized toiletries.

So ready for a vacation.

Yes. No problem. :)

Magical express picks you up 3 hours prior to your flight!!

We'll be at the Swan so can't use the Magical Express. We'll be getting an Uber or a Lyft to the airport. Do you think we could have them pick us up at 8:30am for our 10:30am flight? Someone else mentioned using a car service and getting picked up 2 hours before a flight.
