Booooooo. Been working 7am-7pm all week. Did I tell you what my work did to deal with the July 4th holiday? They gave us Thurs-Fri off, with the option to take Fri unpaid or use PTO, and then worked the weekend starting at 3am Saturday. This saves them money in two ways. One, we get doubletime for any hours worked on a holiday, on top of 8 hours of holiday pay, so they didn't do that. Two, we get doubletime on Sundays for any hours worked as long as you have 40 hours between regular time/PTO/holidays and 8 hours of overtime. This means not everyone would hit the 48 hour mark by Sunday unless they used PTO...
I was not wasting my PTO so I took it unpaid, but still made my 48 hours because 2nd shift has been off since the 3rd. My new problem is that 3rd shift has to go home at 7am Saturday, and we're pretty certain they will run until close to 11am. I've now exhausted all of my options for others who could cover that and have to come back at 7am
Mid post update though, Someone can work on Monday at 3am so that's better. I was really just not wanting to do both. Another mid post update, an issue just came up with this employee, a very big one that could affect this...
And I got someone else in to cover at the end of the month with a similar situation, only I'd have to be in at 3am Saturday. But technically that puts me breaking our 12 day rule, so crisis averted. I was worried we would have to work something else out, like I take a day off, and I would be fighting to take it unpaid since I wouldn't want to take the dang day off. I think new management would be more willing to work with that than my last boss.
