I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

I thought of you immediately when reading that post!

I looked around during my 10min of free time at work today :rotfl: thanks for the suggestions! I didnt think about beauty stuff. I think to start I would just not count the saks credit against the AF unless I find things like that I'd be buying anyways
I've used mine on Clinique and Morrocanoil 🥰 I've got one more Saks credit I'll be able to use before I close my card in October and I'm sad to lose that perk. It's not a huge deal but it's fun :)

As always, YMMV. I've cancelled two or three Amexes over the past 3 years, one (!!!) prior to the first year (I know, shocking). Of course, what I've done is apply for a different card (usually with a higher AF), received the letter to call for recon and then say, "hmmm what should I do? Cancel a card?" and so far so good, knock on wood. That said, if you don't have any pressing need for a free spot and paying the AF isn't a hardship, I'd continue to put a small amount on it.

Is the plat you want the charge card plat v. Delta? Remember, Amex doesn't limit the number of charge cards ( I currently have 5 of them plus 4 credit cards).

I have the 5 credit cards (2 Delta Plats, 2 Bonvoys, and the BBP) and 4 charge cards. Only card I really would like is the personal Plat but I can’t seem to get any offer other than the 60,000 points. Experience of bouncing back from cancelling cards is good. I guess I will find time to call and see if they will give me a retention offer on the Bonvoy Biz. Even if I decide to just keep it I guess not out anything to at least ask. (I will call the number @Lain has posted and report back). I’m 4/24 right now and really don’t want to jeopardize that since another year before next personal drops off.

Soooo this thread moves FAST!

Can someone point out, for a newbie, how to find out my "*/24" with Chase? I know about my current card but I don't know how long ago I had a Disney Chase and that seems to be an important piece of information.

Also, how do you all keep track of everything? Excel?

I got on the Reddit page/group but as I am brand new to Reddit I think it'll take me awhile to sort through it.

Also, in addition to my regular monthly spending I will have about $1900 in tuition to pay (last class!!!!) in August or possibly September. I am guessing that by then I could have a new card in hand and should put it there for any sort of points I might get but further research is needed before I can decide on which card. Like, a LOT of further research.

@Haley R , I am not necessarily committed to JAL as opposed to ANA. Just sentimental as my mom worked for JAL back in the day. I am sure the two lines must be very similar!

You'll want to pull a credit report or use credit karma to see what accounts you have opened and when. They'll count all personal cards including store cards but some have been able to recon around it when it's only for that store, ie furniture etc.

OK will do the Credit Karma thing right now... thank you
ETA: OH BOY that was eye opening! I have way more recently closed Chase accounts than I thought! Yikes!

Random Southwest Release Tip:
So it's possible that in the morning SW will have some of the flights loaded but not yet allow you to search beyond Nov 2nd yet. The way around that is to just play with the link text and you can force their system to search beyond 11/2 before any of the less savvy general public can actually see those flights. Here is a link to the Southwest Search Screen for a one-way flight - you can add "https://www." to the front and then change the items in bold to be your date and your Airport Codes (the first one is where you're going and the second one is your departure airport).

southwest.com/air/booking/index.html?adultPassengersCount=1&departureDate=2019-11-05&departureTimeOfDay=ALL_DAY&destinationAirportCode=PIT&fareType=USD&originationAirportCode=MCO&passengerType=ADULT&returnDate=&returnTimeOfDay=ALL_DAY&seniorPassengersCount=0&tripType=oneway&validate=true

When you load the site it will put in will pre-fill for a date beyond 11/2 and then you click search. If you get this message that means flights aren't loaded yet:
Sorry, no flights were found...
We're sorry, no flights are available that match your search criteria. Please alter your search or choose a different origin/destination.

I haven't tried/tested this for awhile but I've used this method in the past to book flights and had no issues. Good Luck tomorrow :)

FYI, just to make sure we're on the same page, when counting for your Chase 5/24 count you are looking at all credit card accounts, from all issuers, listed on your report with an open date within the last 24 months whether it is currently open or not. If you see it on your report and the open date is after 5/30/17, Chase will count it. They should ignore store only cards, something that can only be used at one store and not issued by a bank, but as has been pointed out it sometimes you have to talk with recon to get around it.

I usually advocate for people to sign up for one of Experian’s free accounts too. It would be a way to double check. You should get the same total. And make sure you follow what @miztressuz said about counting ALL accounts approved in the last 24 months whether still open or closed.

Thanks! I have Thanksgiving flights to FL and Christmas flights to Punta Cana to book.

OK thank you.... so I have three that I have OPENED in the last 24 months:

  • A Lowe's card that I completely forgot I had, opened 6/25/17 (so almost 24 months ago). It's a bank issued so it may or may not "count" based on what you've said
  • A JPMCB Visa (a Disney Chase Visa I got only for the cash back bonus) opened 6/11/18
  • A Capital One Visa I obtained last fall opened 8/16/18
So right now I'm at 3/24 and after June 25 should be at 2/24? Right?

And I have all flights open in a window so I can just refresh them. I had to price out our Punta Cana Resort to see whether we would come home on the 26th or 27th. But I can’t book until after our Aug trip since we’ll be Gold level and get 10% off of the price instead of 5% like we do now.

Yep, looks good :)

Thanks for the tips so far! Next step for this newbie?

I've figured out that I'm currently 3/24 (will be 2/24 in about a month or so).

Before I take the next step (whatever that will be), do I need to decide, irrevocably, which airline I want to fly to Japan (JAL or ANA)? I imagine that will drive which card offer(s) I apply for? It looks like Chase is more toward American Airlines which transfer to JAL, and perhaps AMEX is more toward Virgin Atlantic which transfers to ANA. (I could be completely wrong here). (Side note: I have never, ever paid an annual fee for a credit card so even $95 seems like a lot to me!)

I did take a look at the Chase Ink Preferred online application just to see what kinds of questions it asks regarding a business but I really can't answer those questions right now. As in, I am going to put some stuff on eBay as we clean out our substantial Lego collection, so I don't have a business name or anything like that. I will gladly accept any tips you all have for filling out that sort of thing.

So. Much. Information!

So confused. Why are two nights at rpr (Universal Orlando) 1/1-1/3 185.4 k aa miles on useaamiles but only 51.6 k on aavacations? I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

Business EIN....your SS number
Type of business sole proprietor
Business address, phone number-your address and number
Number of employees-1
Annual business sales...you can put what you anticipate earning maybe $1,000
Years in business...1
General industry- retail:books, hobbies etc
Category other misc store retailors
Specific type all other misc retailers ex tobacco
