Borrowing points on a new resale dvc purchase

I’m purchasing my first ever dvc contract through resale. There are no 2019 use year points. Full points coming in 2020. Will I be able to borrow 2020 points? I read somewhere online that with a resale contract you will not be able to borrow points in the first year. Does anyone know of this is accurate? Thanks

The ability to borrow depends on the use year and dates of the stay. As others have said, there is no restriction based on resale vs direct.

More details on your contract would be needed to know for sure. So here is the scenario where you would not be able to borrow 2020 points.

If you wanted to book a trip in July but purchased a UY later in the year such as Aug, Sept, Oct or Dec (I don't think there is a November) -- then we are technically still in the 2018 UY for those months.

If you closed on your contract and wanted to book a trip for July 2019 (using a contract with a UY Aug, Sep, Oct, Dec)-- you would not be able to borrow points from 2020 to make the reservation.

If you could provide the UY you are buying then it would help to clarify what points could be borrowed and when they could be used.

Just not sure if there was anything about a resale specifically that delayed borrowing. Which seems not to be the case based on all responses. So thanks guys! Now I just have to wait to close and get membership set up.

You can borrow 2020 points - which come available on 4/1/2020 - for a stay that begins no sooner than 4/1/2019, and no later than 3/31/2020.

There are no restrictions on resale contracts against borrowing.

It will depend though on if the reservation fits in the timeframe to use borrowed points as has been outlined by others.
