I totally never thought about this until I saw a video on this restaurant. Looks really cool. I'm going in may so obviously I know I'm super late. But how hard is it to get a dinner reservation same day?
I check every so often and don't find anything.

It can be done. We did it a couple of years ago, unfortunately to re-confirm that Sci-Fi is all hat and no cattle...ie, ok atmosphere and very average food.

Sci-Fi can be tough. Rather than same day try the day before during the final cancellation window. A lot of people cancel first thing in the morning the day before their reservation in my experience. But you can keep checking all day, they technically have until 11:59pm eastern to cancel.

GREAT CHOICE!!!

You will love it, we do and am going back this August, I enjoy cool, quite atmosphere, and food is not that bad, get a shake to go with it, love the cars.......Keep checking as ADR's open all of the time, good luck and have fun!!

The food is nothing fantastic but the atmosphere is great. Especially if you're travelling with young kids- ours totally benefitted from a nice relaxing dark place to recharge, and the silly movie clips kept them happy and quiet/relaxed. DH and I could have sat there all day!

In my experience, it's one thing to plan a trip months out, and a different thing altogether once you're there. People drop and move reservations a lot, and I got same-day and next-day SciFi ADRs last November.

It's the same thing with FastPasses, you never know when something will pop up if you check the app while you're at the park. It was a particularly successful day, rode SDD early, got a same-day Alien FP while chilling at Woody's, then a same-day Midway Mania after using our ToT and R&R FPs, which we killed time for at our same-day SciFi "A"DR.

If you are not able to get an ADR & decide to walk up, you will most likely have to wait quite awhile & will most likely be seated at a regular table, not one of the drive-in cars.
I hope an ADR opens for you. The restaurant is uniquely Disney which makes it very fun :)

Thanks thats a great tip!!!

Yah I was assuming the food would just be okay. I'm going for the atmosphere. It looks super cool. And something to break up the day from lines and heat so we can try and keep going till close.

I know it gets mixed reviews but when my girls start planning on where I get ADR's they know they have to give me one ADR for Sci-Fi. Love the atmosphere ( I have drive in speakers over my desk) and the food is good. Is it great well no but it can be very good. And for Disney reasonably priced.

The closer you are to the date,
the more likely you are to get a reservation for any WDW restaurant. Day of is less common than the day before as you have to pay the cancellation fee. If you are persistant in refreshing the day before, you’ll see all sorts of reservations pop up. If you don’t get one, be waiting for the doors to open for lunch. If you’re the first walk-up, your wait won’t be as long. Unlike other WDW restaurants, there are tables that they do not accept reservations for, so a walk up is actually possible at Sci-Fi unlike most in-park restaurants. All reservation guests are guaranteed a car, so the few picnic tables at the back are for walk-ups and anyone with a reservation who would prefer a picnic table. The cars are awesome but the picnic tables give you a view of all the cars. The film loop is about 45mn. It’s a really fun place to eat, enjoy!

Start checking often the day before you want to eat there (especially at night). Those who want to cancel have to do so the day before.

I hadn't thought about making a reservation at Sci-Fi until about two months before a trip in September, and there was nothing available for a lunch reservation the day I wanted. Every couple of days I'd check, and still nothing. Then at 6:45 AM on the day of, I open the app and find a lunch reservation for 4 of us at 11:30. I feel like people make enough last minute changes that there's a decent chance at finding an opening if you're vigilant about checking and re-checking.

I just got one for last Sunday for 6 the morning of. Booked at about 8:00 am. I had tried several times on Saturday to book for Sunday and was coming up empty. LOTS of people rearrange plans and cancel.

Really enjoy Sci Fi. The atmosphere is really fun. Very good burgers.
Same day ADRs are difficult, but can be done. Otherwise, walk up at off times can often have little to no wait.
If you don't have an ADR, I would not go at peak times. Often 1 hour or longer.

It can be done. Keep checking your disney app for reservation openings. People often cancel the day before (to avoid the penalty fee). So keep checking the day before AND the day/morning of! Lastly, if you are still not successful, try walking up. You just never know. :)

I love scifi! Its so quiet, and cool, and the atmosphere is amazing! Also, we've always had good meals there. Loved the burgers/fries, onion rings, chicken wings, spinach dip etc. And the oreo shakes are to die for!

Oh but the sun in the eyes when you leave though......pirate:

I tried to book it for my March trip starting around November. I took a pretty bad time and then spent several months working on adjusting it to a better time. I finally got it to a pretty decent time and we changed our plans and were going to HS a different day, and I was not able on the short notice to get that again for the new day. I say keep playing and take a time if you see it and keep trying to adjust it. I was really looking forward to trying it in March, and was disappointed when our plans changed and we no longer were going there. So it was high on my list to book for September as a result.

We had a reservation on Sunday, but I heard them telling people it was a 50 minute wait without a reservation. We were there a little after 1, I'm not sure whether it's different if you are earlier. But, I agree, keep checking for reservations. I'm always amazed at what pops up at the last minute.
