A couple of other updates:

The 10k MR from the SUB on my BBP were in my Amex account this morning. I always get a little rush when I check my accounts and see new points :)

I am in the process of putting through the balance payment for our Africa trip. I'm splitting it up onto three cards, and of course the one that is having a problem getting through Chase is the $5k on DH's new CIP that arrived yesterday! (I did activate it, so that's not the issue :)). I just SM'd chase about it to see if I can avoid having to have DH call. The due date for payment in full for that trip isn't until March 27, so it isn't urgent that the $5k go through today. I get that its a brand new card, but I think it is kind of funny that Chase is having an issue putting that payment through when the $39k+ payment on my CSR sailed through, as did the $8,500 on my CIP. (And I did something similar when I got my CIP last year. I met the whole MSR with one payment for another trip, and there wasn't any issue with Chase putting that payment through.) As a DP in case this is relevant to anyone in the future, I did SM Chase last week to give them a heads up that these large payments were going to be hitting my cards within the next two weeks. I suspect that helped, at least on the CSR charge. Guess I should have done that with DH's CIP too, although I did indicate in my SM to ask for the card to be expedited that I had some upcoming expenses I wanted to put on the card. Anyway, assuming we can get this payment through, I'll follow up with a DP on whether we get the 80k SUB. I'm also waiting for the 20k UR from my referral to DH to hit.

Ok experts. If you can't figure this out then no one can. My kids daycare announced an increased fee for those who pay tuition by credit card (2.5%). just stab me in the heart why don't they! I earn enough credit card points in daycare alone to pay for our family's airfare to disney every year. I can now pay by ACH, check, or my bank's bill pay. Am I out of luck in terms of finding ways to earn points/cash back by paying tuition? I don't know of any card that would give me atleast 3% back for tuition either to negate the fee, do you?
Boooo. All I can think is new cards...

Agree with others! It sounds like your daycare costs are pretty decent and you could meet some MSR's pretty quickly. Put that money to good use and earn some SUB's!

You could open new cards for the sign up bonuses and earn more than 3%...what airline do you fly...and what credit cards have you opened in the last 24 months that will help everyone here give you the best advice

Maybe I got lucky when United delayed our 8pmish flight from LAX to BOI last summer to 6:45am the next morning, but they put us up in a hotel at their cost and also gave us food vouchers to use in the airport. This wasn't weather-related, so that might have helped. They just couldn't get a crew to man the flight. Also, I happened to be in the United lounge at the time the final delay to the next morning popped up on the departures board, so I was able to work with a dedicated agent in the lounge to address our situation. She was able to get our bags pulled for us and arrange the hotel, including transportation to the hotel.

Not lucky that's how it should work since it wasn't weather related/act of god that created the delay. It's all on them if they don't have a crew for the plane. And the airline's lounge is a GREAT place to get customer service help for this type of thing because they'll be way fewer people needing help unless it's a huge weather issue all over.

I'm going to go for CIP #2. I need URs to cash out for my may trip. :rolleyes1

Just added up my outstanding lines of credit with Chase and it is $92k over 6 cards.

I will obviously trim that down. Debating closing my current CIP first or PCing it to CIU. I will trim down the limit either way. Thoughts on that? I suppose I will have to wait longer to apply if I close it, so as not to worry about it being reopened, so that is a con to closing it. What is the lowest I can request the CL to be on it? $5k?

I going to trim my $33k SWA CL waaayyy back and the $20k on one of my CF back as well. I do like to keep one with a large limit though. Maybe I will whack all the limits back to $5k except the CF? Does it look bad to request a bunch of CL decreases and then apply for another card?

That's what I did :) I put DHs CIP to $3k and SW Biz to $2k. Didn't touch his $11k CSR or $4k Disney. Took SW Priority frin $27k to $15k. That put him at ~25% HHI. Did all the lowering on 3/12 and applied for #2 yesterday.

Sign up for ALL THE CARDS and roll through sign up bonuses? Much greater than 3% return there.

This. Daycare is our single largest expense (2 little ones). Until I found this thread, I paid via ACH. I've learned that chasing SUBs is the only way to make the 2.5% fee worth it. If you're under 5/24, you have a lot of options and Chase is very lucrative. Unfortunately I am not, but I just hopped on the grAAvy train and the daycare expense easily takes care of the MSR, as long as I can get a mailer. :)

Totally agree on the lounge. At the time, we were the only ones in there dealing with this kind of issue, so we had the agent all to ourselves, and she was fantastic. I was soooo glad not to be out at the gate with all of the other passengers trying to sort their situations out.

I’ve lowered the CL on my CSR to 10k...SW Priority SW business and Disney to 1K.....CIP, CIU, CIC to 2 K each
Applied 2 weeks ago for the CFU...and received a 34K limit...just lowered it to 10k

Like others have said, signing up for new credit card bonuses to make your spend work more for you would give you the most bang for your buck.

But...Chase Freedom Unlimited just came out with a new offer for 3% for the first year, capped at 20Kspend/yr with NO additional signup bonus if that's more to your liking. If you have a CSR, that would help make the new offer more appealing since the CSR would multiply each UR by 1.5x.

Of course you need to be 4/24 or under for Chase - are you?

Alliant Credit Union also has a Visa that earns 3% the first year with no cap, but with no multiplier like a CSR to boost the cash value.

I will be making one! Who did you pick for the final four?
I have duke, Gonzaga, Virginia, and North Carolina. I have Gonzaga and Virginia in the final round with Gonzaga winning it all. A lot of people have duke winning but I just didn’t like their stats compared to Gonzaga. We don’t have tv anymore so I haven’t been watching any basketball in preparation for this. My bracket might do terrible

All the talk about lowering credit limits....Did you need to call or secure message on Chase? If you did a message did you just put all of the requests in one message?

You can SM. I did one message per card, not sure if you can combine or not. I had to pick which account I was referring to when making the message. On the other hand when I needed to update my name, I was able to do that just once and have them do all cards...

I wish my flight out of MCO were delayed yesterday, or cancelled, even better. Unfortunately I am sitting here at home now, back in the 30 degree weather. Boo. :crazy2:
I'm sure in your DH's case, since it wasn't vacation, he was extremely annoyed though. Hope he gets the compensation part of it worked out.
He’s home now and has been sleeping since he got here. He had to be up at 3 am this morning to make the airport shuttle back to the airport. So another day of work he had to miss because of the flights being delayed. I’m sure he’ll deal with the delta stuff later when he wakes up

I picked VA Tech, Marquette, Villanova, and Auburn. I like picking lower seeds for my final four my bracket is always awful.

Quick question on applying for the Citi AA Biz, business type - sole proprietorship, but then it's asking organization type (non-profit, financial institution, wealth holding institution or other business type). I'm assuming I'd choose other business type since its a sole proprietorship (i.e. me)????
