MK/Fantasyland “Early Morning Magic” (EMM) FAQ & Discussion

I was going back and forth regarding whether to book this or not. I just added a night to the beginning of our trip and now with 9 days/8 nights we have easily 3 MK days. Im just nervous it will be a waste of money to book EMM so I think Im just going to forego booking for now and rely on having 3 days at MK to get what we want done. I will of course have to re-evaluate that around FP booking day depending on what we get.

Definitely not a waste of money! Even with 3 days at MK you can't ride SDMT 10 times in a row, lol.

With three days, I wouldn’t spend the money. As mentioned above, we only got two rides on 7D-I really wished I’d booked an afterhours at AK instead with this money. Oh well, still had a great trip.

Oh my I would be livid. I booked for Easter Sunday and when I booked fast passes I didn’t book PP or Seven because I planned on doing them during my EMM..

Not ok if they cancel after 60 days out IMO

It was assumed at the time that Disney changed their mind and those dates were eventually going to have 8am openings (many of the dates were party days, which saw many 8am-6pm hours in 2017), but that didn't end up happening.[/QUOTE]

Just to recap the facts on what happened last fall, here’s the full detail from the footnote on Page 1:

NOTE: Sunday 10/14/2018, Sunday 10/21/2018, Sunday 10/28/2018, Sunday 11/11/2018, and Sunday 11/25/2018 were originally released as bookable EMM dates. In late July 2018, Disney cancelled EMM for those dates and contacted guests who had booked to offer a refund or change dates. The reasons EMM was cancelled on those dates are unknown. At the time we suspected it would be due to changing park hours to 8am, but that never came to fruition.

Well I went and changed my PP fast pass to a HM one but I still have my SM and MT fast pass. I will use the SM fp because we will have to head over to BTMR first thing at 9 in order to ride it, because I didn't get a fast pass for it. But I would have swapped out that MT fast pass for one in a heartbeat. But you made a good point here.

Yep, it doesn’t happen anymore. I haven’t done the new format yet, but I already miss the way it was with just the 3 rides.

This is why Im thinking- why should I book EMM if Im not guaranteed little/no waits... If they are selling too many tickets or people are getting in on an "honor system" then it doesnt justify the extra cost for me. We are going to do HS EMM though because SDD is so hard to get on these days and I like the idea of having time in TSL before RD crowds.

I might change my mind on this if reviews get better over the next few months because we dont do FP booking til June. On another note, Im not even sure if my kids will want to do SDMT over and over. Our little one will probably love PP though. Ahhh decisions decisions...

It’s a big risk to not book fp and count on a 1 hour window. Anything could happen- weather, ride being down, cancellations. I’ve got this booked, but I also have FPS for SDMT and PP’s flight. I always insure the rides that are must do.

Good point. The weather thing got my attention the most. I am going to leave well enough alone now with my fast passes.

I’m in the same boat as you! And right now, MK is showing 8am openings for most days before and after Easter.

Weather is a chance I took yes one ride being down I’ll take that chance .. an event being cancelled because they see a larger money making opportunity elsewhere is not okay.
Maybe I’m naieve maybe I’m new to how Disney works but imo it’s simply bad business practice.
I have two days at MK with the kids and EMM gave me the opportunity to keep both age groups happy. And I booked fast passes around that

Our June trip is the same 9 days/8 nights and we decided to forego it. We are doing it for our short Labor Day trip.

Those people went on a very busy Sunday. And they had technical issues handing out bands that day. On a Tuesday we rode EVERY ride in Fantasyland by 8:15(except Ariel) then went to 7DMT and rode it 6 times before leaving at 8:55 to go get breakfast. You could ride it as quickly as you could get back to it. And we were even asking to wait for the next train so we could ride in front every time.

Edit: I have to qualify "very busy" as both days were sold out, so should be the same crowds. But you know, Disney math I guess?

And for us, I'm thinking...do I really need to ride it even 3 or 4 times in a row? Or can I live with riding it 3 or 4 times over the course of our vacation via FP+? might I enjoy that even more than a firehose blast of SDMT? questions questions....

I have an EMM booked for May...but thinking of cancelling.

As of now, they’ve never cancelled the event less than 60 days out.

My sentiment exactly. I don't know if anyone in our family would want to ride SDMT over and over. I mean, I love the ride and we would be doing child swap with the 2yr old, so how many times would we want to do it? Not sure. Who knows, maybe the 9 or 16 yr old will want to do it over and over and the little one will want to do PP over and over. This is what Im wrestling with over and over in my mind. To book or not to book.....I think I will end up booking it and then if after our first day at MK the kids don't feel like they would want to do it then I can cancel. EMM would be on the day before we check out so we would have time to decide. It is still 24 hour cancellation, correct? I also need to book EMM for HS but that one is on the day after we arrive so no changing our minds on that!

I've been reading the boards from years but usually don't post anything. DIS has always given me the best information for my trip planning.

I was wondering if you got tickets already for Labor Day. I originally planned to do EMM in Hollywood Studios but figured with GE opening that won't happen now. I've been looking daily for a week for the Fantasyland EMM and see no available for our Labor Day trip or any September date at this point but still see reservations for late August. Curious to see if they all sold out that fast or if Disney just hasn't loaded the reservations yet. Either way I will keep looking up till the end if it's already sold out for a drop.

Do you want to be in a position to be completely done with fantasy land by 9am? That’s really the value for us. You can really do all of MK in a day when you’re that far ahead. Or for us we were done with MK by noon, and headed to another park.
