It’s JUST a Marathon! WDW Marathon Weekend 2019 Trip Report

Day Five – I got to enjoy a Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich all by myself

After the Half Marathon and my HM Parking lot beer, @Bree and I decided to walk back to the Beach Club through Epcot. We got stuck in the worst bag check lines but at least we had each other, haha. We talked about getting pizza but read some terrible reviews online. We talked about getting a picture with Donald in Epcot but he wasn’t going to be out until 12. So finally we make it through and just head to the BC Resort. One and Two were on their way to France and I considered stopping to meet them, but decided a shower sounded better. Keels was putting in some volunteer time, so I was on my own and it felt really weird. We had some FP+ planned for Magic Kingdom, so I knew where I was headed to today at least.

I got to MK around 10am and I took some pictures with my Half medal in front of the castle. I really don’t know why, but I did.

And then with time to kill and no one with me, I bought a Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich.
A few things about this:
1. The amount of snack trucks in MK versus Disneyland in the roundabout in front of the castle is sad to me. DL has like 3-4 on one side alone, and it took me way too long to find just one at MK.
2. Mickey Ice Cream Sandwiches >>>>> Mickey Bars
3. Everything is better when you don’t have to share it with your kid.

I didn’t even get a picture of this Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich because I enjoyed every dang second of it as I slowly walked around and laughed to myself at all these other parents who were clearly annoyed with their children at the Happiest Place on the Planet. Suckerssss.

As I strolled around just taking in the differences between MK & DL, I run into One and Two at Haunted Mansion. I chatted with them for a second and moved on. Then I get a text from @Princess KP saying her and @croach were on their way. We meet up at Big Thunder Mountain for our first FP+ and then begins the weird feud of who will sit with whom. I swear it was like having my kid with me again. So for this ride, I rode with Karen. After BTM, I can’t remember exactly what order we did the rides in but we did Space Mountain (I rode in front), the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (I rode alone), and we waited in line for the Haunted Mansion (and I rode with Cliff in what was one of the most awkward rides ever). Then it was a lot of “what do you want to do?” over and over until we decided to leave the park.

I headed back to the Beach Club and decided to go down to the pool slash Hurricane Hannah’s to grab my Margarita of the day. The sun was setting pretty quickly but I hopped on a chair and relaxed for a bit before having to head to dinner.

Dinner was at Il Mulino at the Swan and we had a huge group meeting there, so I got there early to make sure we got a table together. I also got to meet @mbwhitti, her mom, and her husband (whom I mistakenly called a child because his first name is the same as @rteetz, my bad). With a Marathon the next day I was looking forward to some pizza and wine! I didn’t take a single picture while we were there, but I got the Margherita Pizza, the Arancini, and a glass of Chianti (or maybe two). The service at this place was terrible. Our server was frazzled and kind of incoherent. He had a guy helping bring our food out that just kept setting the wrong plates in front of people. It was a mess. The food was good, but man that service needs some work. There are plenty of other Italian places I would go to over this place I think, so no thanks for next time.

And then it was time to go back to the room and be responsible and maybe go to bed – EARLY. Keels was off to the After Hours Party at HS with Cliff and Karen, so me and Bree headed back to the Beach Club. We stopped by the store and grabbed some things for the morning (and I got a Goofy Cupcake), then we went to our rooms. I got my outfit ready for the Marathon. I got my breakfast and fuel out. I was as ready as I could be I guess. And I was going to bed at like 9:30!!!! (Is this what being an adult feels like?!) Did I wish I was riding the Tower of Terror and having a beer? Yes. Did I need to be doing that? Probs not. No regrets.

Plus, tomorrow was JUST a Marathon!!!

I think Keels got everyone’s food set in front of her that night. I am with you and think I would choose plenty of other places over Il Mulino right now.

Just a marathon to go! I wish I could’ve gone to after hours too but no way was I chancing that before the marathon. 5K or 10K sure.

If it wasn't so expensive I probably would have went.....

That's okay! We get the Halloween Party before the 10k this fall!

I briefly considered that after hours too and I think Chris would have gone for it, but I also kept reminding myself I did have to run a marathon the next day and it would be much smarter to just go to bed. But, it was oh so tempting...

Also, you have to get a medal shot in front of the castle, right? I think they kick you out of all runDisney events going forward if you don't.

I went to HS from like 7pm until closing that night, but didn't want to shell out the big bucks for the after hours event the night before the marathon.
And then I couldn't fall sleep anyway, so I probably should have gone...

This sounds like an ideal afternoon...solo time at MK with a Mickey Ice Cream sandwich (you have me convinced that I need to try one of those) and a margarita poolside. Nice!

That sunset photo of yours from the Boardwalk area is amazing!

^^she speaks the truth. ::yes::

Night and Day difference, no?!
No being relegated to the walking snack and tissue dispenser, no having to share the snacks they just said they did not want but do now that you are eating them, and wine not whine.

what a perfect peaceful picture!
Thank you!

HA! Is that the rule?! Then glad I did it!

That sunset photo of yours from the Boardwalk area is amazing!
Thank you! I actually shot it through my sunglasses as a filter. Haha.

100% truth right here.

THE MARATHON – Cheerleader Minnie (PART ONE)

GOOD MORNING to the final early morning of the weekend. I got a full 6 hours of sleep and felt amazing. A-MA-ZING. Not amazing enough to like, go to bed early next year for all the races though. ;) Keels was up and ready yet again before me, but she was going to grab Whitti so we could all ride to the race together. I got up before my alarm and got ready. I ate half a banana, a boiled egg, and made a Nuun. (See, already learning from my mistakes!) As I was heading down to the lobby, I got a text from Keels saying she was out front (perfect timing!) and headed to the car where @Bree had made me a coffee and brought it to me. :lovestruc This morning was already SO MUCH BETTER than the HM morning.

For the Marathon, I was dressed up like Cheerleader Minnie. Keels and I had matching shirts but her Poms didn’t even make it out of the room. LOL. I had asked the group chat how long they thought the Poms would last -- no one was very optimistic.

We made our way to the Disboard meet up for one more early morning. I got to meet @run.minnie.miles and we were polka dot twins!

LB30zHIcTah0RWZfjBTMQ_t1kL9i7N-tt2YgKZYzd-1l7a6y9ZhSeTuSw5yKaySgwi1wG6jFSHO6x-8RYmRTz09VZAuXt1sCyLnsELzr6zzk8XPwdL9gHZ2tmkr7zsjRhsfzywkgKg=w500

Again, no shots were taken before the Marathon but honestly the time between the meet-up and when you start is so long that next year I am taking all the shots.

So we start heading towards the corrals. When we get there, @Bree and I go to the bathroom. (It was fun trying to figure out where to put the Poms while I was in there but I managed!) Then we go to corral D. Bree seemed a little more nervous than she had the previous mornings, but I shrugged it off to being because it was our first Marathon. We both have been on a @DopeyBadger plan, and we both capped at 14 miles. I like that we had that similarity. Our main goals for this race was: make it to Expedition Everest at 9am and finish the race. Since we were starting in D, Bree wanted to get to the front to make sure we had a good cushion. We were behind a really chatty guy who also smelled like he ran in the same running gear for the three other races (which made me think of Pizza Guy, gross). And finally we were at the front and OMG WE WERE GONNA RUN A MARATHON.

At 5:43am we were off aaaand my legs were like “wait, what is going on? Whyyyyyy?” But after a mile they started to wake up and were okay with what was going on. At least for a little bit. So plan A was to stop at a ton of characters to ensure we slowed down enough to make it to Expedition Everest. I still to this moment regret the first stop, Captain Hook, but it happened so here he is.

I do not regret stop number two though, which was Darkwing Duck.

Two miles down and only 24 more to go! By now we were awake and cruising. Not fast, but at a comfortable pace. And then I get the buzz that the Balloon Ladies had crossed the start line at 6:30am. WHOA. That seems way earlier than we had thought. But I knew we would be okay.

Up next we saw some girl from Guardian’s of the Galaxy.

And then we waited in line for Nick and Judy! I was hoping we would find @rteetz along the way here but we didn’t because I feel like he was ahead of us at this point. I think everyone was, stupid Captain Hook….

Within 4 miles we took pictures with 4 characters. I felt like this was a good number but I could tell Bree was getting worried. I just kept assuring her we were fine. My legs, however, they were lead. I was slow. It was a little discouraging. But we were heading into Magic Kingdom, so I knew I would get an adrenaline rush in there. On our way in, we saw @run.minnie.miles and said hi to her! I also saw @Keels! Then we were running down Main Street and people kept yelling “Yay Cheerleader Minnie” and I would shake my Poms. I was really living my best life in this costume. And on we went until we saw Donald Duck! His line was short, so we hopped in.

Then through the Castle and down to get another in front of the Castle pic (with my weak attempt at a Cheerleader Jump).

And maybe one more jump shot for safe measure.

See ya real soon MK, we are outta here…

Down and down and down we go. Until I made Bree stop for Traveling Minnie and Mickey!

As we were heading back to the road we ran into @ZellyB and @Chris-Mo! Yay! Always good to see familiar faces out on the course. Then it was more running. I noticed they had a LOT of water stations, not sure if it was just the normal amount but it seemed like they were everywhere and I was thankful. I feel like at some point during the open road down to Animal Kingdom, we saw @SarahDisney! She sprinted up to saw hi when she saw my Poms! Then we made it to the out and back which I actually quite liked. I just people watched and tried to find people we knew. I saw @CDKG but she didn’t hear me call her name. I also saw @run.minnie.miles for the second time. And then on our way out someone yelled my name and I glanced back, shook a Pom, and realized it was @KattyBelle!

We were at mile 12 and feeling great! We did awesome sticking to our plan and knew we would make it to ride Everest, no problem!

After we met the donkey, I get a text from Teetz asking where I was. We were coming, Teetz, promise, just had to get through Animal Kingdom! Aaaaand then we were in line for Expedition Everest! WE MADE IT. @Princess KP got there wayyyy before us and was at the front of the line. She text us and told us to come up to the front. We were hesitant, but we did it because DisMeet’s gotta DisMeet.

After about 5 minutes we were bolting through the queue and then BOOM. We were the FIRST people, on the FIRST cars, of the FIRST EE ride of the day!
WE MADE IT. BEST DAY EVER.

About 14 miles done, less than a half to go!!!

Woooo! Marathon day!

I passed you at some point I just don’t know where. Front of the line for Everest was a bucket list item.

Love that picture of us after Everest.
