Disney Skyliner (Gondola Transportation System) Read Post 1 Now Open!

No, they will board empty cabins when they are available. The most likely scenario is that they will have some sort of policy to send every 5th or 8th or whatever from the ends of the CBR-IG line in empty so that Riviera passengers won't have to wait too long for a spot. Again, it is all conjecture on how they handle it, but that's the most likely scenario as they won't want to make Riviera passengers wait too long.
At least not until they sell out....

So will the Riviera guests be required to ride the gondola's or will they have a full bus service?
Or is it just POP and AOA and CBR that will be required to ride them to Epcot and DHS ?

I don’t see why riviera would be any different than the other resorts.

I agree with Ryan. I think gondola service will be a selling point for Riviera just as the monorail is for the MK resorts. And the walk from the gondola stations to Epcot and DHS entrances will definitely be shorter than the walk from the bus stops at either park.

Not sure what is being referred to here or how that impacts the Skyliner :coffee:
Really? Referring to the bolded in Pete's post that I quoted where he says he thinks that disney will make sure the riviera resort gets adequate gondola service. My comment is a bit sarcastic, yet a bit not, saying that the riviera will get good service until disney sells all the shares (since the riviera is a dvc resort)-- then they will no longer care if the riviera gets good service...... better?

So with cabling started, do we now know the DHS line only goes to CBR?

There seemed to be some speculation that it might be (1) line from AoA to DHS (with a bend at CBR)

There has been advertising that says 3 lines(I believe the last video that was released) if it was 1 line from DHS to aoa, there would only be 2 lines.

My understand is that Pop/AoA guests will have to transfer whether going to Epcot or DHS. I was never under the impression that it would be direct to either park.

When the Riviera sells out Disney will (by law) own a minimum of 2% of the points, which it will rent out for $$$. They’ll be just as interested in maintaining good service to Riviera guests as they are in maintaining good transportation from GF and the Poly. Especially if the Riviera is finished as a high-end resort.

I hadn’t ever heard other than three distinct lines. Here are the three turnarounds during construction at the CBR hub. DHS line in center, Epcot/Riviera right and POP/AOA left. Photo from LiftBlog article.

Likely it will be the same that there won't be a bus most of the time. (Barring lightning.) Of course it's a big selling point that you can be in Epcot in under 5 minutes, versus a bus that could take 15 to 30 minutes.

I think the longest bus waits I ever have are at the Contemporary..... and a good bit of the time they share with Poly..... I don't think they ever send an empty bus through to the poly if one fills up completely at the contemporary.....

The 2% is mostly for taking rooms out of service for maintenance.

I doubt the cash customers at Riviera will reject the location because of the load rate of the gondolas....

However, as stated, there was a bit of sarcasm.....

OK, that helps. I think I now understand what your comment was about. Thanks.

Even with Disney holding 2% of the resort, it still gets to handle what is known as "breakage" so there will be lots of non-DVC owners staying there.

LOL yes! The point is that the Riviera won’t be neglected any more than any of the other deluxe resorts just because it’s a sold-out DVC resort.
Agree. We don't see any of the exclusive DVC resort (OWK and SSR) being neglected. Nor do we see the sold out combination DVC resorts being neglected.

This is upsetting to me as a DVC owner at BW. I have been concerned since hearing about the project what the impact would be to IG at Epcot. If this is the only way for several resorts to get to Epcot that will definitely impact the crowds using that entrance. This would impact all the Epcot resorts in a negative way. One of the big perks of staying in that area is the back entrance to Epcot, people are paying a premium for the perk. I sure hope Disney has plans to expand that entrance as there are only about four scanners (if I'm remembering correctly) now to verify valid entry in to the park.

Obviously we need to see it play out but two things I think will minimize the impact (not make it zero, but reduce it a lot): 1) it looks like security clearance will take place before you get on the gondolas, so thus anyone getting off at IG will not need to go through security to get into EPCOT and 2) the gondolas are continuously moving and so it will be a steady stream of a few people at a time rather than like a full busload being dropped off all at once, so that should even things out a bit

I am sure firs thing in the morning it will back up a bit - and hopefully they do add some more touchpoints for people to get in, at least at that time, but overall I don't think it will be the huge impact some fear (but we shall see)

As for the whole EPCOT resort area, I think that is a positive as some times the boardwalk can be a bit dead so this should bring more activity there overall. Guess it might make some of the restaurants a bit harder to get ADRs for if people now see it as easier to get there and won't help the crowds that can build at Beaches and Cream

Agreed. Although I'm actually looking forward to getting on the gondola from BCV/BWV, for dining at Riviera and maybe even CBR. Just something new/different. Prob not AA/POP though.
