Do you know your child's school calendar for 2020 yet?

Just from reading a few posts on here it sounds like a few of you already know when your child's Spring break 2020 will be. Just wondering if any of you do in fact already know this. My dd's school doesn't release the school calendar for 2020 until sometime in March 2019. This is very frustrating. Next year will be dd's first year in middle school and it will be harder for her to miss any school for a cruise, so I would like to be able to book one during her Spring break. Another thing that is frustrating is that there is no pattern as to when the school district does Spring break. Sometimes it is the week either before or after Easter, sometimes it is 3 or 4 weeks before Easter!! Makes it impossible to guess when Spring break will be, grrrr!!
Just needed to vent! We are able to book tomorrow, but now I don't know if I should just pick something or wait until we have her calendar, I'm sure prices will increase between now and next March, Spring break prices are already so high! So what do you do if you don't have your kids school calendar? We can't go in the summer due to dh's job, Jan-April is the only time he can get time off of work.

Last year, our school district voted and approved the first week of April as our Spring Break no matter where Easter falls. We are taking our first trip during Spring Break next year because of that. In the past, it was our best guess. Can you look back historically and see where it fell and make a good guess too...

In Massachusetts, Spring Break is the same week for the whole state every year (think Boston Marathon), thus we don't have to guess. But I feel for you. Growing up in New Jersey, it was either the week before OR the week after Easter, and it varied year to year and school district to school district.

So indeed some people on this board may already know when their Spring Break 2020 is, and others may not, depending on where they live.

Best of luck!

I looked back at the past 6 yrs. It's been anywhere from 1-4 weeks before Easter and even a week after Easter a few times. I wish they would do something like your school district!

Yes, we have our ‘19-‘20 calendar down here in New Orleans.

But we always have Mardi Gras week off, so we always know when we’re going to cruise.

No, we don't have the school calendar for that year yet but our district's spring break is the one thing that is always the last week in March every year.

yes, we have our 19-20 calendar here in the midwest. I did however, have to ask DD's orchestra teacher when he thought her spring concert for 2020 was going to be, lol. Fortunately I must not have been the first because he didn't bat an eye and gave me the date he shoots for every year.

I do not have an official calendar, but spring break is always the end of the second trimester. Fall break is always MEA week. There are 5 days at the end of Tri 1. So it is very consistent year to year

I feel bad for those of you whose spring break moves around with no 'rules' around it. We're also in Massachusetts. We have a February and an April break...Feb. break is the week with President's day; April has Patriot's Day--so I can figure out what weeks we'll have off. Of course now I also have 1 in college...so any big trip has to be in the summer when everyone has off...

I don’t have the calendar (no kids, I teach) for NYC, but I know we get Presidents’ Week off and Spring Break is always over Passover (makes it challenging for the midweek start and stop in 2020 to know exactly). So I book for Pres Week and I’m good.

No, in my Northern NJ town we do not know. The "first" version of the school calendar for 2019-2020 will likely come out around Feb. 2019 with the final version being approved before June 2019. To make things more difficult in the last 5 years, sometimes it was the week before Easter (3) and sometimes the week after (2). It has never mattered to us because we usually take the week before and the week after and do a land trip to Asia. This is the last year we will be doing that because my daughter starts middle school next September and I don't want to take her out for a week. I wasn't planning to book a Disney cruise for April but I put a hold on two - one for the week before and one for the week after Easter. It's very possible that we won't do a cruise at all. I'll have a few days to think about it. It doesn't seem like my two choices are selling very well but I'm not 100% excited about either so I wouldn't want to pay more than I booked for...

No, I don't know exactly when my kids' spring break will be. I had to guess, but I won't know for sure until November or December when the calendar is officially released.

Book two or three cruises now for different weeks, and later cancel the one(s) that don't fit with her schedule.

Well, if you have the money, you could always put down deposits on a few cruises that you think would be during the spring break week and then cancel the ones that don’t work for you before the payment in full date.

We know ours for 2020 for a couple of reasons. First, it's almost always the same general weeks (usually last two weeks of March, or 3rd/4th week) - and it only ever connects to Easter if Easter falls in that time period. Second, our district does have a two year calendar, however, they recently decided that for 'safety' issues they aren't going to publicize it, so I had to email in.

Here we are always off Christmas week, Presidents Day week and Patriot's Day week (3rd Monday in April). We usually start the Wed or Thur after Labor Day however for years the School Committee has been trying to start earlier, so that is our wild card...when we will actually start. Being a school employee, I hope it never goes before Labor Day but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. :sad2:

When I was a kid we never started school until after Labor Day and were always out before Memorial Day. My dd now starts the second week of Aug and has to go back the Tues and Wed after Memorial Day, which seem ridiculous!

Thanks for all the replies, seem like some of you have the same problem. I've discussed different cruise options with my dh, he's no help, just tells me to book which ever one I want. I think right now I'm looking at the Southern one in Jan, and might book ones on the Fantasy before and after Easter, with plans of cancelling 2 once we get my dd's class schedule. If we keep the Southern one she would only miss 4 days of school. Maybe I should just book a cruise for dh and I and leave dd with the grandparents.:P:D That would go over well!!lol!!

We have a tentative calendar for 2019-2020. DD is in 4th grade now, and the tentative calendar has not really changed much when it becomes final.

Knock on wood. :)
