I sometimes look suspiciously at new Dis members who have only posted a couple times when they join us in this thread. :rolleyes1

Makes sense. The funny thing is that I found this thread while doing a Google search for award travel. Then I noticed it was on the disboards so I jumped in. Obviously not a new poster on the DIS but I had no idea this little gem of a thread existed. Maybe it's not good that it shows up so easily in searches?

That's what spreadsheets are for!! Don't go risking them changing the UR transfer rule - that's where my tin foil hat comes out :)
Done!

Yeah, I was playing with fire. Each week as I'd do my round of logins I'd think about it and then put it off for IDK Y. Mostly it's not the same seeing it lined up in the spreadsheet like logging into the travel portal and it says "You have A BAZILLION points which is at least COUPLE THOUSAND dollars!" I smile every time knowing that was cruise money. Now there's a bazillion and a half points which seem more awesome until I realize not all of that is earmarked for the cruise. It's stupid, I'd be way more upset with them sitting there on my CIC when it's time to use them for flights or trains :headache:

Yer not alone, but mostly I freak more when everyone invites them to DISchurners for "support" on the first response. The tinfoil hat goes on to think it's really a Mod in disguise that goes "Ha! I knew there was funny business! Off with their heads!" once they get access

But then....
Imagine the research I do on them when they ask to join DISchurners ;)

… I remember we have awesome gate keepers! :D Thank you and another thanks to @Albort and @Lain as well ! (@Albort I actually saw a post from you on r/churning today, threw you a fake internet point as thanks!)

Just to be clear...we have never denied anybody DISchurners membership, lol. BUT if I don't recognize somebody I will search for the user name here, on reddit and on google to see if anything weird pops up. Everybody has passed our test. We've also NEVER mentioned this thread or DISchurners on r/churning or DoC or anything like that.

If you remember, that one guy had a link to this thread in the r/churning WDW guide and I asked him to change it to the Gift Card thread (which is what he wanted to link to anyways). I don't personally know of anybody who found us here from r/churning which is probably a good thing.

Good clarification, I didn't phrase that right :) But yeah, you'd be surprised how often the DIS pops up for random travel searches. As a group there is a ton of travel knowledge on these boards, even outside of the Disney/Universal bubble. So, like @mmmears , if I get a DIS result returned from a search I tend to click it first :) There's always someone on the thread with good, accurate info that even if it doesn't exactly answer the question gives me a good base to jump from. But the flip side to that is getting freaked out when one of your own posts pops up as a search result! Sometimes that makes me think I need my question mark avatar back

Puts on tin foil hat

So I bought $2k worth of VGCs from our grocery store tonight. (I needed some more fuel points anyways).

That leaves me needing about $50 on both my CSP & CSR to hit the MSR. Tomorrow or Friday I will go buy a $150 target GC at the Grocery Store...split it $75/$75 on both cards so that I meet the MSR on both cards on the same exact transaction at the same exact time. And then I will cross my fingers and hope for 100k URs LOL!

Paranoid...yup that's me.

No worries, lol. I just didn't want people thinking we actually don't let people in. Of course DISchurners was started to combat the whole karma requirement issue on r/churning so we could support each other. AND EVERYBODY will always be welcome to post support links on DISchurners - it's the right way for our community :)

I’m sure I’ll be here to ask more questions! Lol

We will be staying at the Hilton Tokyo bay so I’m considering getting a Hilton card but I haven’t quite decided yet. We are still using dh’s CSR but he said yesterday he thinks we met that msr already.

That's what we are here for, to help each other out. Currently there are a ton of options for Hilton. Aspire comes with Diamond status, a $250 airline credit and a $250 resort credit. Also, with it being an International Hotel, you might be able to double dip the resort credit by pre paying $250 on your stay this year, and getting the statement credit then using again next year. I'm going to try and pull this off with mine as well for the Conrad Maldives. The public offer is at 150K I believe. I read somewhere that Diamond status members (maybe gold too) get free breakfast and get to skip the line to breakfast which is supposed pretty long at this resort. Between this and the other Hilton cards you and your DH can wind up with free accommodations for your length of stay.

you should do the chase pay @ Best Buy and earn 6x on both cards. dunno if they have target cards though.

Yep. It makes me nervous when I see it, too. Of course this is where I headed when it popped up in my search since I'm so familiar with this board (maybe too familiar when I see my post count).

Any other newbies/slow churners want to chime in about how your plans will be shifting? I'm hearing all the "take all you can, give nothing back!" talk which I am on board with in theory - but I *just* started, and I also want all these shinyshiny UR cards.

Newbie here, just started in July after reading this thread, reddit, and some blogs for a solid month. I had been planning on getting all the Chase cards that we can before moving on.

I posted a "what should I do" question this am right before the DD news hit :-) TL;DR version: dh and I will be flying United to India, in business/Polaris, paying real money, this December. The tickets will be about $7500. We are both 1/24, me with CF and dh with CSP. The "long-term" plan was for me to get a CIP this month. DH is not open to biz cards.

Choices:
  • I stick with my planned CIP for the flights (3x travel) and dh gets a CFU for the 1.5x OR try for the 100K personal plat amex (for the very large reimbursable expense for the nonprofit project I mentioned a while back)
  • I get the CIP and dh gets a Chase United card for the tickets (2x miles + free bags; which card though)
  • I get the CIP (ditto) and dh upgrades his CSP to a CSR for the tickets (can this be done so soon?)
  • I get the CSR for the tickets and dh tries for the 100K personal platinum amex

Any thoughts?

Yeah you'll have to help me out with this! I think we will wait until DH is done with his CSR, but I'm going to send what you just said to him and see what he thinks. Thanks!

ETA - assuming nothing goes wrong, I'm the proud owner of another AMEX platinum. I got a targeted offer for the 100K and signed up. We can't cancel the AU card I have since DD needs hers anyway so no refund there. And it's not great that we can't combine our points but we've done well with AMEX so far in terms of booking J class flights at a pretty good return per point so far.

I still hope we can figure out how to get some Chase points though since we don't use AMEX for hotels and we like nice hotels (esp. at WDW).

Is it better to use our Target card to get Disney gift cards with 5% off or to use our Chase card to get 3x on travel?

I think that depends on your long-term travel goals. If you have other places you want to go using UR, 3x points on a Chase card will give you the equivalent of 4.5% cashback towards travel IF you have a CSR and book travel through the UR portal. However, if you are okay committing funds to Disney, then getting GCs at Target will cost you less out of pocket (but then you can't use those funds for anything else if your Disney plans should change).

Edit: and if you'd be able to work towards an MSR by using a Chase card, you should definitely do that!
