Wine and Dine...to the Finish Line! Fall 2017 TR NEW 1/25 The Last Day - THE END!

A food-filled last day! You guys did some serious damage to the Festival!

I tried the handwich too, but sadly, I didn't care for it. Mine was really dry and not very flavorful and I think I might have ended up tossing some of it out. Too rich and it wasted precious stomach space for more excellent things. ;)

Oh! I do think I'd enjoy the choco pineapple. Looks so sweet and refreshing!

Sad that another trip is in the books- wouldn't it be great if they never ended? LOL!

I had made another last minute ADR for breakfast at Captains Grille. I think it is under renovation now as it's not available as a restaurant, but when we dined there, they had temporarily moved to Ariel's in the Beach Club so we headed there.

Did they change the name to Ale & Compass or is it still closed?

We started off by sharing a pot of French Press coffee.

That doesn't look like enough to share.

As an entree, Steve got the Shrimp and Grits with eggs (they were poached).

Huh, I've never seen a presentation like that.

I got the oatmeal as a "starter" - think it was like maple brulee oatmeal

This oatmeal Brulee seems to be kind of a "thing" right now.

I also got the kids portion of the Mickey waffles, because I felt like I needed them, kinda like how you need air...

That's a kids portion? :faint:

After breakfast we headed to Stormalong Bay. I could not come to the Yacht Club and not try out this pool. It was fabulous!

I can't wait to try it next March! I've never seen it that empty. Ever.

Luckily there were not issues and we got to make this car:

That looks like a fun car. How did it do?

but frankly it doesn't matter, LOL.

 You're right...no offense, but my day will be the same whether you rode Nemo or Figment. :rotfl2:

It's always green side for me as things are way to intense in orange.

Really? I think green is anticlimatic. Then again I wish I'd known that the rehab was only on the green side.

Enjoyed the new green side movie again as they pass over Hawaii which is my second favorite place aside from Disney World.

:sad2: Sorry I missed that.

The bread cone with mac and cheese was sooo good!

Interesting. I liked the one at the Cozy Cone, but I liked the Green Chile cone the best and now it's gone.

Our next stop was the Thailand booth where we got: Seared Shrimp and Scallop Cake with Cold Noodle Salad and Red Hot Spicy Thai Curry Beef with Steamed Rice

Man you guys are eating a TON! I would have been done after the cone.

Steve was hankering for something meaty and salty so he got himself a Turkey Leg.

Where does he put all this? :confused3

It would be another two months until that trip though, and the wait was far too long, but luckily for you guys, that trip will begin in my next post.

Yay! Time for my cameo!

Those nachos are life! I can always make room for them :rotfl2:

Me too! I'm gonna try fit them in in September, but goodness knows there's food and wine, and I have too many ADRs as usual.

Looks like some really good eats before saying farewell!

Andi loves the chocolate covered pineapple from karmel Kuche

I do love the pineapple too! It's probably one of my favorite discoveries last year!

These fish light fixtures are amazing!! Theming is definitely on point.

It's so pretty I never knew that space existed. I wonder what it is being used for now. I guess back to private parties and such.

This looks amazing!! I love oatmeal, so this would be a serious win for me.

It was delicious! I love oatmeal with all the fixins.

Mmmmm. Carbs and fat are basically my two favourite things.

They are the best things :) Especially when together. :)

I think I'd probably agree with you if I tried this. I'm a big avocado fan, and it sounds like the crema was really light and delicious.

It was! Wish there was more of it.

Great way to spend your last day! Everything you tried looked delicious!

Can't wait to read about the next trip!

Thanks!! It was a great 2 days to whet our appetite!

Captain's Grille closed afterwards, it's now the Ale and Compass Restaurant!

Ah ok, that's what I suspected but I wasn't too sure since I hadn't gone to Captain's Grille before.

Ooo I love it! I was tempted to eat there just to see, but we weren't huge fans of the Captain's Grille. Although one day on maybe like our second trip in 2016 we were in the Beach Club and I took a wrong turn and almost walked right into that room because the doors were open :rotfl:

It's such a pretty space! I hope I get to peek inside in Sept!

I had that too, and I couldn't finish it, there was so much to it! I also was eating it in the messiest way possible

I enjoyed it! Mine was so good. The bread cone wasn't stale like I've seen before.

I agree! That was one of my favorite things from Food & Wine, but the avocado crema was my favorite part of it, and I don't think it needed as much of the other sections since the flavors overpowered the avocado.

Agreed! Wish it was just avocado crema!

It's not truly a Disney trip until you have Mickey Waffles!!!

TRUTH. Oops forgot to have some on my SOLO trip but that will be rectified in a few months.

Well yes-regular QS stuff is always there-MUST eat festival foods. As much as I loved loved F&W -dare I say it?-I think I liked some Flower&Garden things more :duck:.
This past June was my first time inside the German Bakery:scared1: And now-it won't be the last.

Me too, my favorite dish at a kiosk are those grilled shrimp at Flower and Garden. Next year I am contemplating 2 trips for Flower and Garden...just because I LOVE that time in Epcot.

Wow you haven't been to Karamel Kuche before? That smell just draws me in...

Reading your trip reports before eating is always a bad choice, everything looks so good! I love the Boardwalk area and I would love to stay at Beach Club someday just for Stormalong Bay. Excited about the next set of posts!

I know...I'm hungry now but all I want is Mickey waffles (it's 11pm) lol.
Yacht club was amazing and now excited for Beach club in Sept!

Wow, your Captains Grill breakfast looks great. You have me so excited for our first Beach Club stay. We'll definitely have to give that a try.

Love all the food and wine on your last day. We're going to miss it by 4 days in August and I'm so disappointed.

It was wonderful! Although now it's known as Ale and Compass and is not in the Ariel's space although I'm sure you can wander in and take a peek as that space is so pretty!

You and me both! Looking forward to our stay at the Beach Club which is soon after yours!

They're all sweet. :)

I'm suffering from low sugar!! I need my fix now!

Place is packed. Lucky you got in.

It was very stressful trying to get an ADR.

Wow, that looks good!

It was delicious!

That looks good too..... I think I'm hungry...

If I haven't made anyone hungry then my trip reports are pointless.

 I had no idea this existed!
But then again... it would have to be pretty phenomenal to replace my chocolate rice krispies treat.

It's the best! You have to try it!

I've had one of those... but not at Disney... and thought it was really good. Surprised me actually. How did he like it?

He really likes them! I like them too but after like the 3rd bite they can be overwhelming. Good for sharing. They are also very salty!
And yet you're still smiling! :worship:

When you have another trip in 2 months it's not so bad.

Your last day sounds great! A wonderful breakfast + morning at the pool sounds lovely! And your time at Epcot sounded fun, love all the photos throughout WS!

Thanks! We had a great time on this short trip!

A food-filled last day! You guys did some serious damage to the Festival!

Oh yes, we sure did :)

I tried the handwich too, but sadly, I didn't care for it. Mine was really dry and not very flavorful and I think I might have ended up tossing some of it out. Too rich and it wasted precious stomach space for more excellent things. ;)

Aww too bad as it's quite delicious when done well. I've had the stale cone before at DL and it's not good, but luckily the one I had that day was moist and delicious.

Oh! I do think I'd enjoy the choco pineapple. Looks so sweet and refreshing!

It's exactly that! Soo good!

Sad that another trip is in the books- wouldn't it be great if they never ended? LOL!

A perpetual Disney vacation? Why yes, that sounds like...winning the lottery and moving to Golden Oaks!! :thumbsup2

Did they change the name to Ale & Compass or is it still closed?

Yup according to Raeven they are now known as Ale and Compass. I guess since we're staying at Beach Club next we will give it a try for breakfast too. Haven't really looked at the menu so not sure what is the same and what has changed.

That doesn't look like enough to share.

You're probably right! I think we did finish it but could have had more.

Huh, I've never seen a presentation like that.

I wouldn't say I've had a ton of Shrimp and Grits in my life but we seem to have it a lot at Disney!

This oatmeal Brulee seems to be kind of a "thing" right now.

It is! I guess it makes for tastier oatmeal.

That's a kids portion? :faint:

I think so! I honestly can't remember but I think i would have ordered the kids size knowing I'd have a breakfast appetizer. :rotfl:

I can't wait to try it next March! I've never seen it that empty. Ever.

I hope you get a nice empty stormalong bay!

That looks like a fun car. How did it do?

We always done really poorly on the Eco part, but my Power is awesome so after the fast loop we're usually #1 and that is all that matters to me.

 You're right...no offense, but my day will be the same whether you rode Nemo or Figment. :rotfl2:

What, my ride choice didn't change the course of history? But what about the Butterfly Effect!??! :rotfl:

Really? I think green is anticlimatic. Then again I wish I'd known that the rehab was only on the green side.

I did orange once and felt like I was going to puke all day after that so yeah, it's a no for me, but Green I can handle.

Interesting. I liked the one at the Cozy Cone, but I liked the Green Chile cone the best and now it's gone.

I really liked the green chili one and was surprised to find out it wasn't there in May! That's why I ended up with the bacon mac and cheese cone. When did they get rid of it?

Man you guys are eating a TON! I would have been done after the cone.

You clearly underestimate the power of...the Chunky.

Where does he put all this? :confused3

He plays a lot of sports! That is what I tell myself as my arms get more inflated with each bite of food I eat...
Although he IS getting a gut...

Yay! Time for my cameo!

YES!!!
And probably the last picture of Fran's scooter will make an appearance too.

Oct 30th Part 1: Wine and Dine-niversary Trip begins now!!

So when we arrived at Disney World on Oct 30th we had already been in a Disney bubble for about a week. We had just gotten off the Disney Magic from a week-long cruise to the Canada Coast. We left from our home port of NYC. It was AMAZING. Seriously one of my most favorite experiences ever. You can check out that trip report HERE. If you ever get the opportunity to do a Canada Coast Cruise, I highly recommend it! Especially with Disney Cruise Line. It was a really fun and gorgeous cruise made better with MARVEL Day at Sea!

Me fulfilling childhood dream of visiting Anne of Green Gables heritage site on Prince Edward Island, Canada:

After we disembarked back at home we had a quick turnaround of about 2 days - I repacked my luggage with more "warm weather" clothing, because we were going to FLORIDA and it's supposed to be HOT like, ALL THE TIME right? (OK so it was 40 degrees in 2016 on my birthday but that was just a fluke, am I correct?).

So all packed and ready to go for round II for Disney fun! We left early morning for a 6am flight from Newark to Orlando. Gosh it was soooo early - I honestly don't think I want to do these early flights anymore bu of course I have the same thing booked for our upcoming Sept trip, LOL. Cheaper prices is good and the sooner I get to Disney is even better but the not sleeping part really gets to you. We made do and just slept for a little on the plane and got to Orlando safe and sound.

We went down to Magical Express, scanned our bands and we were on our way!

Tired selves but no line at ME! :)

The first thing we noticed when we walked outside was how COLD it was! Like, it was colder here than it was in CANADA! Luckily I had a hoodie with me and I was wearing pants but I totally planned on changing out of them when we arrived but perhaps not...I even put on my scarf!

Excited for the next week though!
Here are our new Halloween-colored bands!

We were on the villa side in a Deluxe Studio (standard view). I rented points since we were not DVC members yet at that point!

Even though we were in the DVC building, we had checked in at the main lobby.

Hello gorgeous:

As expected, our room wasn't ready yet, so we just dropped our carry-ons with Bell Services. We did pick up some Happily Ever After buttons though and the CM wrote down "9th" on for my button, and Steve wrote his own button and he couldn't fit "Anniversary" on it so his just says "9th Anniv" :rotfl:

We took the monorail to Epcot!

Ready for Food and Wine!

It was still COLD so I didn't change out of my clothes, in fact I wish I brought an extra jacket! I just didn't expect it to be colder in FL than Canada. It was a gorgeous day but just unexpectedly chilly, at least it was sunny, there was no humidity, and we were in Disney! No complaints from me :thumbsup2

Soon after we entered the park we had our first DISMeet! @franandaj and I had been texting all morning and they were enjoying Epcot just as we arrived. We met up in Future World and got some PP pictures!

Here's us with Allison and Fran!

We were all talking about how unexpectedly cold it was that day and Alison and Fran were saying how cold it had been the past few days. Luckily it was supposed to warm up as the week progressed!

The booths were just about opening so we parted ways so we could get something to eat before our FP.

One last picture.

This might be the last picture of Fran's scooter! If you haven't read @franandaj latest TR then you should to find out the fate of the scooter! :moped:

We headed to World Showcase to find some grub. This time we headed left because on our last trip we headed right most of the time and we missed a lot of the stuff to the left.

We stopped at the India and Africa booths and got :

India: Korma Chicken with Cucumber Tomato Salad, Almonds, Cashews and Warm Naan Bread plus a Mango Lassi.
Africa: Spinach and Paneer Cheese Pocket with Mint Raita (which really just sounds like it should be in the India booth to me.)

Both food items were pretty tasty but was nothing that wowed us. The mango lassi was gross though! It did not taste like the lassi you normally get at Indian restaurants, this one tasted like an overly sweet smoothie and had no hint of yogurt. You will see though that I brought back my Food & Wine tray which I had purchased in Sept! It comes in pretty handy.

At the Brewer's Collection we tried the Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen Pomegranate Beer. It was good but think I prefer the Grapefruit one, it was refreshing though.

I picked up this popcorn bucket on our Marvel Day at Sea cruise and I got a refill in the parks at the America Pavilion. Now I was assured by the CMs on the cruise that this bucket does not expire and will be refilled in any Disney park. Hope that is true! So far I have used it that fall, in Dec, and again in June of this year with no issue! I believe the cruise buckets are cheaper than the park buckets too. I paid about 8.50 for it whereas the park ones are about 11 bucks and they change quarterly it seems (meaning you'll have to buy a new bucket once the color changes, at least that was what I was told).

Non-expiring popcorn bucket:

It's a Salmon BLT Sushi Roll. It was a salmon roll topped with bacon bits, lettuce and tomato with a mayo sauce. It was interesting and tasted ok but not sure I'd get it again. I think I just like my sushi simply prepared and my bacon, well, with anything else but sushi. Frushi is the exception though. I enjoy Frushi!

Over in France we got a PP picture:

We headed over to get a Grey Goose Slushie when we bumped into Alison and Fran again - apparently Fran's scooter had just decided to stop working! :scared1: So Fran now rode in Alison's scooter. They were on their way to a F&W event they had to get to at Spice Road Table. Good bumping into you guys again! - When is your March Trip again? I have a placeholder booked for March at the Swan. March 15-20 I think.

They headed to their event while I got myself this goodie:

I liked the regular GG slushy over the special one they had for Food and wine, although my fave is still La Vie en Rose at Flower and Garden! :cloud9:

We headed over to Test Track as our FP window was going to open soon, but I had to stop at Islands of the Caribbean again for this treat:

I designed this masterpiece in Test Track. I obviously am not concerned in the least bit about our environment because I have achieved a -2 in Efficiency. But I got a 98 in Power! :cool1:

For the record, Steve makes up for my lack of Test Track Eco-efficiency in real life because he drives a hybrid :drive:

:laughing::laughing::laughing:

We made a detour back to Mexico to say hi to a new friend, Jeff! We met him on our Disney cruise the week ebfore. He's an EMT with Reedy Creek and works at Disney World! Today he was at Epcot so we stopped by to say hi. He works during the race events too so he said he'd come to our rescue if anything happened to us, LOL. He was so nice and gave me a pink shirt with Reedy Creek EMT on it. Thanks Jeff! We've been trying to catch up with him on other trips but somehow our paths have not crossed again. Hopefully that will be corrected soon!

Our new EMT buddy, Jeff.

Coming up...Dinner at 'Ohana, our room at The Grand Floridian, and Happily Ever After!

Yeah, I remember this trip, just barely now:( I remember the BLT sushi. It wasn't bad, but it was really messy.

I love the early morning flights :rotfl: Because I can't sleep anyway so I might as well be at Disney! Sometimes I think a flight is too early but then I just book super early for the next trip too  but the one time we went later in the day we were so delayed we didn't get to our room until like 8pm.

Quesito: Puff Pastry with Sweetened Cream Cheese and Guava Sauce

That looks so good!

But I got a 98 in Power! :cool1:

Oh wow that's amazing! We always try to get really high in power and low in efficiency :rotfl: but you have us beat!

Miss these little cuties!

It was part of the whole Annual Passholder increased dining discounts for that time of year, where meals at some signature restaurants were 30% off.

So sad I missed most of that!

Beautiful! Looks like an amazing spot

Looks delicious, whatever it is!

Wow yum! What a beautifully plated dish!

arugula salad.

Magical words! Arugula is delicious

Wow arugula and brussels!?! My two fav veggies!

WOW what fantastic looking oatmeal!!!

We continued walking, and got a PP pic at Mexico, then went inside and rode the Three Caballeros.

Love it when there's PP in World Showcase!

We were tempted to get the nachos at the quick service

So good, surprisingly!

And finally in China we got the Black Pepper Shrimp with Garlic Noodles.

I think that was my favorite dish of F&W

Beauty!!

I have been lurking on your TRs, but I saw your post about visiting Prince Edward Island. That is on my bucket list of places to go. We may have to look into doing a cruise there.

Yeah, I remember this trip, just barely now:( I remember the BLT sushi. It wasn't bad, but it was really messy.

I know, I actually remember the least about this trip because it went by so quickly! Luckily I have all my pictures to refresh my memory otherwise it feels like a very distant memory.
But can't forget about that V and A meal though! That was a beautiful meal.

I love the early morning flights :rotfl: Because I can't sleep anyway so I might as well be at Disney! Sometimes I think a flight is too early but then I just book super early for the next trip too  but the one time we went later in the day we were so delayed we didn't get to our room until like 8pm.

I like to get to Disney early too but just don't like how tired I feel all day, haha.

That looks so good!

It's delicious, one of the few things I got more than once!

Oh wow that's amazing! We always try to get really high in power and low in efficiency :rotfl: but you have us beat!

Haha we are such non-environmentalists. I want to get at least 100 in power next time!

Miss these little cuties!

I love the Halloween decor!

So sad I missed most of that!

It was a fantastic deal!! And if you had TIW they gave you 30% alcohol too.

Beautiful! Looks like an amazing spot

We lucked out! It wasn't crowded that night.

Wow yum! What a beautifully plated dish!

It's my favorite thing there!

Wow arugula and brussels!?! My two fav veggies!

I like them too!! Can't go wrong with either.

WOW what fantastic looking oatmeal!!!

It was delicious! I really love a dressed oatmeal :)

Love it when there's PP in World Showcase!

Me too. I wish there were more. Sometimes I walk around and see no one!

I think that was my favorite dish of F&W

It was delicious!

Aww thank you. My hair is a little crazy since a slept on the plane, LOL.

I have been lurking on your TRs, but I saw your post about visiting Prince Edward Island. That is on my bucket list of places to go. We may have to look into doing a cruise there.

It's amazing! It's one of the most beautiful and idyllic places I've been to. Summer is definitely the best time to visit because then all the attractions are open. Many were closed when we were there because it was after the season, so no lobster shacks were open. I'd love to go for one of those lobster dinners one day! They said if you fly there to fly into Halifax and rent a car - think it is about 2 hours away as it's much cheaper than flying directly into PEI. Or else a cruise would work too but I'd want to spend more time there than just the few hours that we did.
Thanks for reading!! :)

Food and Wine is such a blast. And an early flight turned into a full day of DISMeets! Excited to see the Grand Floridian

It was a great day so far! Just surprised it was cold, haha. I should have just brought my Canada clothes.

I hear ya on those early morning flights, we've started flying out the night before on the last flight. We usually just grab a value for that night because I would rather switch resorts than deal with the sick feeling I get on those early morning flights. But Disney is worth it!!

Way to put those APs to work last year!

I love/hate our 5:50 am flights out of Chicago to Orlando. I love landing by 9 am and have the entire day to go to a park, but hate having to be out the door by 3:15. Usually, someone is pretty crabby by the end of the first day that we question if it is worth it. Somehow, I always rationalize that early flight to get the most of the day.

Epcot is such a great first day park. Food & Wine Festival is a plus, too!

You hit some really cool temps for that time of year. On our January, 2017 trip, we had temps reaching 86-88 degrees everyday. I will say weather apps make it easier to pack today.

How nice you were able to meet a couple DISers and your friend from the cruise.

It's tough waking up so early for flights but worth it when you are able to get a full day in the parks! You guys wasted no time by heading to Epcot and getting started at the booths! So nice that you could have 2 meets with friends too!

That does stink that it was so chilly though! Good thing you had a hoodie!

Isn't it the WORST when you get to Florida and it is cold! Such a let down! However I will take cold in Disney over cold in Boston every day of the week! All that food is making me hungry and wish my carrots and lemonade were Food and Wine goodness lol. Looks like we may be overlapping dates in September! I booked yesterday (in a I hate everyone wedding planning rage) the 7-10th at the Yacht Club! I almost picked BC but I have not stayed at YC yet and they were the same price (and a great price at that!).

That is crazy for such a chilly time!

I designed this masterpiece in Test Track. I obviously am not concerned in the least bit about our environment because I have achieved a -2 in Efficiency. But I got a 98 in Power! :cool1:
haha! I didn't know you could get a negative!

Ah, V&A. I get warm fuzzies just thinking about it:)

I honestly don't think I want to do these early flights anymore

I feel you on that one! We are swearing them off as well.

we were going to FLORIDA and it's supposed to be HOT like, ALL THE TIME right?

I was operating under that same premise!

Tired selves but no line at ME! :)

Steve looks perturbed.

Soon after we entered the park we had our first DISMeet! @franandaj and I had been texting all morning and they were enjoying Epcot just as we arrived. We met up in Future World and got some PP pictures!

I had just finished purchasing a super warm Mickey jacket (that I've only used once since then!)

This might be the last picture of Fran's scooter!

::yes:: Yup it was.

I don't like salmon, but I don't think I would like cooked bacon on raw sushi, just a weird combo.

And the Photographer saw our buttons and makes us to this. The horror.

:lmao:

When is your March Trip again? I have a placeholder booked for March at the Swan. March 15-20 I think.

We're at the Beach Club from March 14-21!

I liked the regular GG slushy over the special one they had for Food and wine, although my fave is still La Vie en Rose at Flower and Garden! :cloud9:

I think we had just finished our slushies when we ran into you. Kind of needed a drink after all the scooter stuff.

Wasn't I just commenting on another car of yours the other day? :confused3

I was behind but caught up now. I was at MK on Labor Day and then Epcot on your last night of your Sept trip. I would have loved to have met you guys! I think I started reading all your TRs right after that trip.

The first thing we noticed when we walked outside was how COLD it was! Like, it was colder here than it was in CANADA!

Bahaha I feel you! We thought the exact same thing when we went in January!

We did pick up some Happily Ever After buttons though and the CM wrote down "9th" on for my button, and Steve wrote his own button and he couldn't fit "Anniversary" on it so his just says "9th Anniv" :rotfl:

For a minute I wondered why the CM would write "9th" on a button about a fireworks show. And then I realized it was an anniversary button. Silly me!

Nice picture!! Sounds like a lovely Dismeet.

I think I just like my sushi simply prepared and my bacon, well, with anything else but sushi.

:rotfl:

For the record, Steve makes up for my lack of Test Track Eco-efficiency in real life because he drives a hybrid :drive:

:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Wow, Steve is saving the planet! Between that and his hydroponic garden!
