Disneyland show?

I can appreciate those listeners/watchers who loved the original format of the DL show. However, I found it unwatchable. Only my opinion, no one needs to agree. I enjoy Pete and Ryno, their repartee is entertaining and informative.
The original wasn’t a video podcast so it wasn’t watchable in any way.

My only complaint is while I love Pete and Ryno I wish there was more of a local component. Yes Tyler and Katrina are locals but I would like to see even more local components. It’s still early though.

How exactly were you watching the original DIS Unplugged Disneyland show? It was an audio only show.

Like Craig mentioned, it's the data that matters. Vote with your feet. Don't like it, don't watch/listen. Move on. See if the next change is more to your liking. For now, this is what it is and they are making a go of it.

This reply is not intended to argue over the unsubscribe/don’t watch/listen, move on if one doesn’t like the new show format sentiment as I have unsubscribed.

My point is to highlight that being data driven does not exclude subjective use of the data to support one’s opinion. While unsubscribing/not watching/listening is the only way to register an ‘objective’ data point, I don’t see any number or change in subscriber/viewer numbers that would be a threshold for change if Pete is happy with the new show, which Craig has said he is.

- An increase in subscribers shows clear support.

- No change in subscribers also shows support for the new format. Either the subscribers to the old show format are ok with it and have stuck around (a vote of support), or the new format has attracted enough new subscribers to offset number of old listeners who left because of the format change (another vote of support).

- Even a significant loss of subscribers isn’t a reason to change the show’s format. I’m sure Pete would not like to see a drop in subscribers after this format change, but who would those former subscribers be? The overwhelming majority of them would be Disneylanders, the Disneyland ‘local’, who are no longer the target audience of the new format. Their departure has no impact on the mission of the new format show. The subscriber base may be smaller than it was with the old format, but it will be composed of a much higher percentage of potential revenue generating customers for Dreams Unlimited Travel. So in a round about way another ‘win’ for the new format.

Even though I’ve given up on the show I still find this thread entertaining. What I’ve really noticed is there are posts where people explain in detail why they don’t like the change, there are posts attacking the thought that anyone wouldn’t like this change (or any change for that matter) and people who are just indifferent to the change who may or may not have actually listened to either show. What there isn’t a lot of is people providing details on why the new version is an improvement. I’m not sure if this is indicative to the content change or just the attack mindset that often finds its way here.

Well, just back a page there was a response from someone who said they love the new format: https://www.disboards.com/threads/disneyland-show.3678161/page-11#post-59438228

i do think some people just like video better than audio only - and I can see this format appealing to people who didn't get into the old format (couldn't relate to the conversation if not as familiar with Disneyland/Southern California - I know I felt that way at times).

Personally I haven't been enjoying it that much as it just comes off too salesy to me - I know that is the point of all of the podcasts, to help generate leads for Dreams Unlimited ... but the main Tuesday Show seems to do that while also pointing out negative things as well as the positive. Also, I think they still haven't figured out the flow of transitioning between the Orlando Team and the West Coast team and seems like Pete interjects on Tyler a lot, etc. - but that certainly can work out over time

I plan to check back in after some times has passed, but for not just wasn't my bag

I made the same choice after episode 1, but now I doubt I'll look back in.

The new show isn't made for me, it was designed for Disneyland novices. Heck, even the hosts are barely more than novices when it comes to the DLR (particularly Pete and Ryno). Even as a former L.A. resident and former AP holder, I don't think I would call myself a Disneyland expert, but I know too much to enjoy the new show and yet could still learn a trick or two from the old show. Maybe there is something else out there a little more my speed?

I mostly miss up-to-date park news and park reports the old show gave (and the WDW show still gives).

I think this discussion is fascinating. And..I think it’s time to look at the numbers from Youtube

Episode 1 18,400
Episode 2 11,750
Epsode 3 11,750
Episode 4 9,600

Yeah sorry that’s the wrong direction. It also shows there are ALOT of people that are intrigued/interested in a DL show who immediately decided the content wasn’t for them. The YouTube comments aren’t quite as savage this last round, but I think it’s a lot people who are unhappy are giving up and more are indicating they will as well.
I am debating whether to give it one last chance. I’ll tune in just long enough for the intro to see if Tom and Mary Jo have finally surfaced.
The episode #4 numbers are what the DL B&W was doing before it mysteriously stopped posting 3-4 weeks ago.
That leaves me just overall discouraged about the future of the content.

Loved the old show ... Love the new show .. I’m pretty sure some of the old crew will be back from time to time .. once they get rolling... Disneyland is a fantastic place and this show will find its audience

I am so happy to see these numbers!!!

It seems to me everyone supporting this format change are WDW vets and thats a good thing for Pete (and his company) because it is obvious that the new format is to sell the WDW vets new trips to CA. That is the issue, he changed it from a "locals" show to an advertisement. Face it, DL is a AP park, always will be we keep it alive.

--> Also, i would love to see what would have happened if the WDW show people would have been replaced by the DL show staff.. Their World.. UPSIDE DOWN!!

You can be upset about my justification, but it’s Pete’s master plan that I was explaining. Would you tell him to his face that you don’t care for his “justification”? Probably not. Maybe on the boards or email, but that’s probably it.

REALLY????? Of course I would say any of this to Pete's face.. Why would i not???

Yeah I commented on this earlier, one unexpected missed show can cause people to get fussy. They had to warn people for 3 weeks they would be skipping this week and apparently people get fussy when John hosts. (That’s mind boggling to me.) If the main show disappeared for 6 months with this numbers of changes, I am sorry but the boards and FB would absolutely come unhinged. A LOGO change garnered backlash because the font was too “Disneylandish.”
YouTube algorithms and views are confusing and honestly, I doubt that’s all Pete is looking at. If it was only about views, they just have Craig and Ryno lady and the tramp all around the parks and rack up views till the cows come home.
All that said, I genuinely like the Orlando team, and wish them success in all they do and I hope they find their sea legs here. I just wish there could have been a compromise, like mini news segments, trip planning content or more nitty gritty locals driven content, discussing Harbor and Katella like we do as if their streets in our hometown.
It’s free so it is, what it is, but I am so, so sorry to see it go.

The old show could have used some changes, but it was generally very informative. I listened on my commute to work and used it for reference each and every DL trip I have taken to date. That said, not a fan of the new format. Watched/listened to the first couple of shows but thats it. I will give it a try again I am sure, but now listening to another DL podcast for info on my upcoming trip. Thank you "original" DL podcast guys & gals for all the help over the years. Best of luck to the new team members.

Still watch/listen to the WDW team through all its changes though.

Being a smidge dramatic aren’t we?

I think that quote was pretty telling to the mindset of what drove this change. It seems that there is a prevailing thought process that if it’s not Pete it’s not any good. Multiple people on the shows have made comments recently about the reactions people have when he’s not involved and I think they are starting to fall into the trap of listening to extreme minority. While I have no doubt there isn’t a percentage of people who listen to the shows simply for Pete I think they are grossly overestimating the number who feel this way.

I realized recently why I don't love the new version.
For both WDW and DL, I'm an out-of-towner visiting. I (at least somewhat) understand the perspective of a non-local visit the parks. What I don't quite know is how locals feel about the park.

The WDW show is locals talking about and visiting the parks, which gives me a new perspective and some interesting food for thought (I especially appreciate hearing how they feel about certain special events as people who go to the same event every year and see the changes).
The old DL show was locals talking about and visiting the parks (and the surrounding area) ... also, a new perspective for me.
The new DL show is out-of-towners talking about and visiting the parks ... which is a perspective I already have. It's not different enough from what I experience for me to really be interested in listening every week.
That said ... if I ever move to the DL area and end up becoming a local, I might be interested in the show to hear what the Orlando-based team thinks about my local park.

I understand that my reason for watching/listening (more listening recently because that's easier for me to do on my commute) are different than others. I know that some people watch/listen because they want planning information, and this may be better for them. But it's not what I'm looking for, and when I do get around to cutting down my list of podcasts, this one is likely to get an unsubscribe.

Am I missing something but doesn’t the show still feature locals talking about the park? Or is it the locals we don’t like?

Yes it still features locals but the old show was entirely locals. They would talk about Disneyland, things to do around Disneyland, and each had different perspectives.

For something like the Pixar Pier discussion recently Pete brought up how some locals don't like or were negative towards Pixar Pier. None of them seemed to dislike Pixar Pier. It would have been nice to maybe see some perspective on ways they could continue to improve Pixar Pier because even though I haven't seen it I have seen images and video and some of the aspects don't appear to be Disney quality.

The old team would talk about changes and events that locals would find interesting, like, for example, artist signings in Downtown Disney or menu changes at the park. I don’t think a first-time visitor would care that Hungry Bear removed the fried green tomato sandwich from its menu, but some locals would. So far, the new show covers Disneyland as if its viewers are not familiar with the park and its attractions. That’s not what the old podcast’s listeners are used to. It has little to do with the new California hosts, at least for me.

Tyler and Katrina are better broadcasters but they don’t offer nearly the same insight, knowledge, or focus of DLR as what used to be offered.whether they have the knowledge or not, we don’t know, but the show format/content doesn’t provide it.
