Port Canaveral: A Lost Luggage Story

For those who need new luggage, Kohl's often has it on sale.

Kohls has a bunch of their luggage on sale for buy one, get one 50% off right now. Last week, it was a percentage off each bag, which was a better deal for me because I'm only looking at replacing one bag right now. I'd been looking online and hadn't decided what I wanted yet, but I can wait.

Costco's Kirkland brand luggage has been the best luggage I have personally every purchased. Yes, the bags are all black, but I add my own accoutrements. :D I had a Kirkland carry-on bag that has been all over creation, and used it as my "always" bag for almost 20 years before it finally started having a seam start to loosen. And that was after I had passed it on to my DD#2. :-)

Wow..that luggage is only $99. That's a bargain!

A little too effeminate for my tastes though, but it would make a great gift.

Our story was the Castaway Club backpack on the Country Inn & Suites shuttle!

After our family cruise (first DCL for myself and my parents but my sis had already been on a couple as a paying guest so we got the backpack - only she got the lanyard though in spite of being in concierge), we took the Country Inn and Suites shuttle back to get my parents' car. They dropped my sis and me off (she was taking me to MCO later) and they started on their way home stopping in Valdosta, GA to spend the night. They discovered that the backpack - which had my dad's medication and other stuff in it - was not there. Texted us to see if it was in Andrea's place - which it was not. We KNEW we had it when we went to the shuttle - at least we were 99% sure we did. It was NOT left outside the door, so we would have carried it with us (and we took our bags into AP for breakfast, so our servers would have noticed if we left it).

There was another family on the shuttle with us who were going on to WDW. In conversation, we learned they were going to be staying at the Grand Floridian. Daddy called Country Inn and Suites, but it was not in the van and had not been turned in. So Daddy called DCL about the lost bag, and he was able to give them the info - however farfetched it might be - that there was a family on the hotel shuttle with us going to the Grand Floridian for a few days. They said they would search and let him know. I don't think we really anticipated anything, but a few days later, Daddy got a call from someone at the Grand Floridian that the backpack had been turned in (probably they were thinking there would be no way to get it back, but we're glad they took a chance) - they FedExed it to him, and he had it the day after it was turned in.

Lots of great ideas on identifying your look-a-like luggage. We, on the other hand, are airline employee non-revs so it's roll-on or nothing. Did the two week EBPC with one roll-on each. Can't loose it if it's in you hand.

Except when it's not in your hand. I had a 17" carry on and someone on my airport shuttle van from Canada place to yvr had an identical bag. Fortunately, I had overheard that they were going to the airport to transfer to an airport hotel shuttle. Their drop off was first and sure enough, they took my bag. I realized it when I was dropped off at my terminal and ran to intercept them at the other terminal after leaving their bag with the shuttle driver.

Another funny story. Someone with an identical backpack was next to our bags. We turned their bag in and reported it to DCL. Went to the resort and received a call DCL located our bag. Funny part the person who had it lived in the same city and state as us.

That is funny...and it really is a small world. Unfortunately I've got that song stuck in my head now. pirate:

Whoa, never had that happen. Good for you intercepting you bag. We have these very bright/electric green Albuquerque Sunport handle wraps (yes it's called the Sunport because we have a lot more sun than air at this altitude) on our luggage and it gets their attention. Nice poly-something (like wet suit material) and Velcro.

I noticed a black bag at the airport recently with tape on it in about 20 different locations all over the bag. Each location had two strips of tape, one in red and one in gold, about 2 inches in length. I asked DH if he could identify the flag because I didn't recognize it, yet somehow it looked familiar. DH said "Amazing Race"...and he was right! I'm not sure if it was their intention, but it definitely distinguished the black bag.

I have a cherry red bag from Delsey that I thought was unusual until I had to ask someone to put it down in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago.

Out of my 40 DCL cruises I would say more so in recent years but not really as many as you would think! I have had Disney Luggage for many, many years....and I travel other places than Disney so it stands out!

Super nice collection of Disney luggage. I'm starting to collect Disney luggage for my grand nephews and niece for future trips (5, 3 and 2 yrs)

LOL me too!!! I have already purchased some Disney carry on luggage for our grand kids ages 3, 3 and 6 mos. One of our grand kids (3) travels a lot as they live on the West Coast and we are on the East Coast. She rolls her own little Minnie Mouse carry on with all her snacks and toys....she is a travel pro already.

Lol my 6 year old has figured out that my 2 year old loves to pull luggage, so he’s got his own pint-sized personal porter for his Olaf suitcase. We are also a carry-on only family for most trips but you never know when you might be subject to the dreaded gate check or random weight check at ticketing (looking at you Hawaiian Air) deciding that your tiny carry on must go in the hold. If you bring a standard size rolling carry on to a cruise can you roll it onboard or do they still want you to check it?

You can bring it on yourself. No problem.
