DLR and DCA now have separate blockout days

From glancing at the dates for the separate parks, it looks like they are still both the same. Maybe this is in preparation for the change.
It might be! I heard a rumor about this change last night then checked as soon as a woke up. Wanted to post just in case people are planning summer vacations a year in advance and could impact what park they go to (if they have an AP or base their trips off the blockouts).

Ahhh, I can only guess this is in prep for SWGE. Guessing they will have more AP blockouts at DL once it opens.

:wizard:
Yes, it would appear I am right.

Looking at June at June 2019, DAP has zero blockouts at DCA (never happened before IIR) but way more than normal at DL.

They will be pushing folks over to DCA next June to keep things as free as possible at DL.

Interesting.... I see two things.

1 - I’m going to muster a guess that their goal is to open SWGE around 6/21 lol

2- I see a lot more people downgrading to SoCal passes as they renew, if the summer is all blocked out anyways. I am really on the fence myself. Looking at the dates we typically go, it has to make sense to pay extra for Deluxe and that margin is really thinning for us. If they take away a lot of dates from Deluxe that we usually go, we may as well save $400 per person and downgrade.

And FWIW, for us anyways that doesn’t mean less days in the park, it just means we change our habits on when we go and pay less to get in. That’s not really thinning the AP herd. That’s just pissing off Deluxe AP’s and getting less money from them for the same or close to the same number of admissions

We are So Cal select and notice we are blocked all of June versus the 4 days we have now, Friday’s eliminated in the month of May for DL but we will not upgrade for essentially it similar to our pass as we visit often during the week. Renewing at our current level come late December.
And this is stage 1, I can imagine more’s to come closer to next summer.

I just received the email announcing this:

Dear Valued Annual Passholder:

From the limited-time Pixar Fest celebration to the upcoming Pixar Pier opening on June 23, 2018, it’s an incredible time at the Disneyland® Resort! In addition, we recently announced our most ambitious project, Star Wars:Galaxy’s Edge -- opening summer 2019 at the Disneyland® Resort! For an exciting sneak preview of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge click here.

With unparalleled experiences, both classic and new across both Parks at the Disneyland® Resort, the Annual Passport program will now be moving to Park-specific calendars beginning June 2019. This means that Blockout Dates will apply to one or both Theme Parks depending on the pass type purchased. Admission to the Parks will continue to remain subject to capacity restrictions and other closures. To view the calendar for the latest schedule and for more information, please click here.

The Annual Passport program will continue to provide our valued Passholders year-round magic at both Theme Parks, world-class entertainment, special discounts, offers and opportunities.

Please note, if you purchased and activated your Annual Passport prior to June 1, 2018, your Passport will not be affected until renewal, and you will still continue to have the same Park access based on the Passport type you currently hold.

Thank you for your continued loyalty.

Disney eliminated my ability to renew my Premier AP at the SoCal level 9 days before my renewal window opened in November, and now this announcement comes 9 days before the rest of my family can renew their SoCal APs. I really hope they are not forced to choose between SoCal Select and Deluxe. I know this announcement is only about blackout days, but I'm nervous.

As long as you do it before the expiration, you can renew the same type, you are grandfathered. You cannot go up or down TO that pass anymore even if you are an AP.

WHYYYY do I never get AP emails? You’d think after 20 years they’d figure it out :-( I have emailed so many times trying to fix it.

No email here about this either but I have premier so I don’t fall into this blockout category and when I renew I’ll renew down to signature plus.

The e-mail indicates June, but they also removed all the Fridays from May. As of yesterday they were there, so the "subject to change" portion of the pass blockouts took effect.
Since we renewed on May 6th, it only affects the Friday May 3rd. Not happy though that they handed me a list of blockout dates, then change them.
I can foresee confusion in the beginning as people try to park hop only to be told that park is blocked.
Will get our money's worth with these passes for the next 11 months though, then probably change to just a few visits per year. Or if I win the lottery....

Even though it is your responsibility to check the calendar, I can see people getting confused about the days and park hopping, and frustration when turned away at the gate.

It is also hard when planning trips with friends who hold AP of different levels. It’s hard enough planning trips based on one set of blockouts. Now with this, you may not be able to park hop with friends

Not sure what this means exactly because they added new blockouts in May of 2019. Do I get the old blockouts or the new ones. I think the new blockouts apply now, so "not be affected" is not quite true.
