Room Check Question

Yes. They're knocking if the sign is on and entering. They're knocking if the sign is off and entering. It doesn't matter.

The sign is only to alert them there is someone in the room. So they are to knock, and not just use their key to enter.

I'm pretty certain they are instructed to knock first, with or without a sign.

Well, the sign is to alert them the room is occupied. It doesn't mean they won't knock, and the sign states something to the effect that it does not work to have your room skipped over.

Of course they're going to knock. That's why the sign is pointless. They are knocking and entering regardless of the sign. I feel like I'm talking in circles.

All the sign is meant to do is alert someone is in the room. Period. People expecting it means their room will be skipped is where the problems come from.

The sign only confuses people who don't understand the difference between room occupied and do not disturb. It would be better if there was no sign at all. At least then people would clue in to the fact that they may get disturbed. The room occupied sign gives people a false sense that they won't get disturbed.

The manager at POFQ told me that the only people who "should be knocking" when the RO sign is up are security personnel. She said housekeeping, bell services and maintenance are not supposed to be knocking on doors when the RO sign is out.

Of course that wasn't the case for me :) or I wouldn't have had the conversation in the first place and unfortunately the knocks continued at POFQ and then later in the trip at CSR.

There was no sign in our room last week at all. We just used the latch anytime we were in the room. We had no problems at all. This was at SSR.

Or many others.

Sounds like there’s a big ole disconnect between what “should “ be happening and what is happening. I think Disney has a hot mess in their hands.

Sounds like the Room Occupied sign itself is at odds with the resort manager at POR. The sign states that "The Disney Resort hotel and it's staff reserve the right to enter your room, even when this sign is displayed, for maintenance, safety, security, or any other purpose."

People need to read the sign and know that Disney means what it says. The sign will not stop anyone from knocking on your door, nor, going by the verbiage on the sign, is it intended to.

Based on reports, it seems to me that the policy is not consistent between resorts and even at the same resort. Some report the checkers/housekeeper/security people are polite, others are rude. Not possible to predict what you will experience. Best to use the room occupied sign whenever you are in the room and absolutely use the door latch at every single moment you do not want to be disturbed. At the current time it doesn’t seem that you can prevent them from waking you or your sleeping children up in the morning or afternoon. Best you can do is to have a face to face meeting with the housekeeping manager, request time frames when you won’t be disturbed and hope the request is met. A Disney customer service I spoke to about my concerns with policy after my February 2018 trip suggested getting the name of the housekeeping manager you speak to (again in person) so that if your requests are ignored, you can follow up with that individual. Not sure what to advise about refusing housekeeping. In my opinion it’s a crapshoot.

It's outrageous that anyone needs to organize a staff meeting just to have an undisturbed nap in a hotel on vacation. Disney's "solution" is offensive to me.

I don't want to put this in the "experience" thread because it's a question but following that thread made me wonder this...

It seems to me that putting up the sign or requesting to not be disturbed is some sort of trigger for them to insist on checking.

Does anyone else see this pattern?

I have been in CSR 5 days now with the RO sign up and never have had a knock from housekeeping or room check. Not sure if its the hotel i'm in or not, but we are in a room a lot since I am working on homework while here.
