I love credit cards so much!

Add a teen and then sock drawer it! That is where I went wrong. My DD was so excited to get a CC with her name on it. It is supposed to be for gas and emergencies. I had given her my Disney one for gas previously because I never use it. With 7 AP classes and sports, I didn't want her having a job during school, but she really needs one for summer. Her "emergencies" seem to be Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks. I created a monster. lol

LOL, you did create a monster! I never let my teen have the card. I opened the envelope, I made the purchase at the store and then I sock-drawered it :) I no longer have the CSP nor that card.

However, I have recently added my oldest teen to my CF. She drives now so she has to get gas every other week, and I'll ask her to stop by the store for a few groceries once a week. She was using her debit card for all those purchases and I was moving money to her account. I got tired of losing points so I added her to the CF. It's been about a month and so far, nothing other than the 'approved' expenses have shown up. I do make my teens cover their Starbucks and other 'emergencies' so she knows I'd move money over :D

I need help deciding what to do.

Me 4/24, 4/12*, 1/6*, 1/3
12/22/2016 - USAA
6/18/2017 - SW+
6/18/2017 - SW Premier
8/1/2017- UA
11/27/2017 - Amex BRG
3/13/2018 - CIP

DH 3/24, 4/12*, 3/6*, 2/3*
4/3/2017 CSP
9/11/2017 CIP
1/31/2018 Marriot Biz
3/24/2018 SPG personal
*includes Chase Biz cards

We need 360k Marriot points by August to take advantage of the Cat 8 + 132k UA, we are 139k Marriott points short.
Option 1:
DH get the Marriott personal when it goes up to 100k next month? $99 fee, $5k MSR
And buy 10k SPG? $227
Total: $326, $5K MSR

Or

DH gets the Marriott Personal now:75k points AF waived, $3k MSR.
AND
I get Marriott Biz, 75k points, AF waived, $3k MSR.
Total: $0, $6K MSR
Plus we get 2 free nights after anniversary.

But I'm afraid I might not get approved for the Biz since I just got the CIP & I'm at 4/24.

What's your blog going to be about?

Well that's part of the figuring out. Do I do a more if a general kid of how to, experience, review type thing like many do including my fab dixie delights. This would allow for more posts. Or do I go more specific, have less posts and a smaller potential audience.

I volunteer for my sorority on a quadrant team, the US and Canada are split in 4, working with alumnae chapter presidents. Before that I volunteered within a chapter. I've thought of doing something with all of that but geared towards something that wouldn't just be my chapter or greek life but I'm not sure how to angle that one yet
Also need to see if anything like it exists since the first option really is a dime a dozen cause it's so much easier for anyone to do.

I wonder if I could get my 15yo daughter approved for the CFU with the 3x on all spend the first year offer. Is being 18 a requirement for a Chase card?

Any Hilton fans have the Hilton Amex Ascend? I'm debating about applying. Pretty much I'd get 100k points for the minimum spends. I searched Hilton's site and found that I would get about 2-3 nights for 100 k.... not sure if it's worth it? Would I get better mileage out of the Chase Sapphire through the UR portal? I don't have a card with UR so I can't (at least I don't think I can) see how many points it would take for the equivalent stays...
We each have one. I only got them for the bonus points. We have done fairly well with them. Used them for some Hampton rooms in the UK. I do like their cash and points options. You can drag the slider and choose how many points you have/want to use and see how much cash the rest costs. I use that sometimes to get much cheaper rooms without burning all my points.
I do not have any UR cards so I can’t speak to that but I do know they are highly favored.

I don't think Chase approves for under 18yo's :( My oldest is almost 18 and I've wondered when she can go for her own card. She has no steady income though, which I'm sure is a requirement.

Not sure about the age requirement, but I have read multiple reports that Chase requires/likes to see at least six months of credit history in the applicant's own name (so being an AU doesn't help with this).

I got my dd18 an au cats on my sw premier that I don’t use last summer before she left for college. She uses it to pay for whatever she wants and I transfer over the money to cover it. We don’t pay for her dining out, expensive hair items, Uber, etc. She saved up for all that.
So she says to me earlier this week...”you know those are really my points, right? Because I am spending the money.”
we have a little aspiring churned on our hands here folks!

I think I would wait a bit and see if the SPG biz bonus increases to something good. Then you can both get one.

Can you do the second option and get DH a card first, then wait 30days for yours? I think it’s 30 days between apps.

You do have a little aspiring churner! My dd has not realized they might be her points yet. Of course, I was always tell my kids I churn so they can go to Disney, so she is happy with that lol :)

Had the csp years ago. Used those points and cancelled. Then when I started more into this I quickly ended up at lol/24 so I haven’t had any chances in awhile to get one.

I figured you were just lol/24 but I wasn't sure if I had missed something :)

I got an email from AMEX about the “updates” to my SPG Business card. In reading through the information about the new card/benefits, this jumped out at me about the new Luxury card:

“Complimentary Gold Elite status: Earn Platinum Elite status after making $75,000 in eligible purchases on your Card in a calendar year.”

Then it says (emphasis mine):

Coming in 2019: Each calendar year you can receive credit for 15 nights towards the next level of Elite status. Limit one 15 Elite Night Credit per Marriott Loyalty Program member. Benefit is not exclusive to Cards offered by American Express. Terms apply.”

Does that mean the Luxury card will automatically give you 40 elite nights just for holding the card? 25 from the complimentary Gold status, then another 15 towards the next level? If so, you’d only need to stay 10 more nights to get Platinum. Which sounds too good to be true, but that’s what it says the way I’m understanding it.

So I'm reading about the new Marriott Premier Plus card and it says there:

***
Automatic Silver Elite Status: You will automatically receive Silver Elite Status each account anniversary year as a cardmember (“Account anniversary year” means the year beginning with account open date through the anniversary of your account open date, and each 12 months after that).[/QUOTE]
***

But doesn't say how that will happen, currently they credit you with nights to achieve that. Since they don't mention nights I'm wondering if it changes to a simple status check box (do you have the CC? check. account is silver) But if they give you 10 nights on your anniversary year to make that happen, then it could stack with the 15 you get as the next perk that starts 2019:

***
15 Elite Night Credits: Each calendar year a maximum of 15 Elite Night credits will be credited to one of your Marriott Loyalty Program accounts operated by Marriott International (i.e., Marriott Rewards®, Starwood Preferred Guest® or The Ritz-Carlton Rewards®) (the “Marriott Loyalty Program”) on or before March 1 in accordance with the Marriott Loyalty Program terms and conditions.
***

However, if that were to happen everyone with a CC would be gold at some point. (i.e. I get my 15 nights on or before March 1. My anniversary year is March, I get another 10 nights, I'm now at 25 in the same calendar year). So that's just confusing, if each calendar year you'll get the 15 nights that pretty much gives you the Automatic Silver Elite just as it does now.
Possibly the automatic status is just for 2018 since the elite nights aren't starting until 2019. (So you get 10 nights when you open the card which are good through Dec 31. Then Jan 1 you get the 15 nights which keeps you at Silver Elite. If they're slow crediting those nights and it takes until March 1, you're still silver Elite because of the automatic status thingie) But since the SPG cards have the same automatic language, I'm leaning towards the check box concept rather than being given actual nights. So you might get the perks of Silver Elite but you have to earn the full 25 nights to get to Gold Elite (likewise, perks of Gold Elite but need 50 nights or spend to make the Platinum). The 15 nights are then technically counting towards the next level, just maybe not as quickly as one would like :)

On another note, the new Marriott Premier Plus card does not have the elite night credit for every 3k in spend like the current Premier and Biz cards.
And more confusion for the current Marriott cards it still says Cat 1-5 for the free night but only valued up to 25k points. But in the new chart 25k points is a Cat 4. So I guess it's Cat 1-5 if booked pre Aug 1, after Aug 1 it's really Cat 1-4. (we used our night already so doesn't affect me, we won't get the next one until after the change) Still really need to see the new list of property values to see if that's a devaluation or not.

Next on my research list: lifetime status. At first glance, it looks like it just got easier so I'm sure I'm missing something :D

Lol, I told my kids it's my card so my points and I still pay for most of your vacation, this is just your contribution ;)

Wow - I would have never realized you weren't hitting up some URs. However, I'm one to talk. Prior to the CIP this month my last UR earner application was in NOVEMBER 2015!! It's amazing to me how many people I've advised to get UR cards over 28 months while I myself was not applying for any hahahah!
