I love credit cards so much!

Did they just give you courtesy points or give you the increased offer?

You called? You got the courtesy points?

I called and they kept saying there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he also said I was only entitled to what I had signed up for and that they couldn't "switch offers." I said I knew someone who was given the extra points when they called about it. He finally gave me 10,000 courtesy points. He said they don't like to do it because people post it on blogs and then everybody calls in expecting it. :rolleyes1

I haven't had to pay any contractors, but I've never seen a negative dp relating to an Amex payment to a contractor. Amex doesn't like mortgages, student loans, and car payments.

I paid my contractor with my Amex SPG several months ago, directly not through plastiq, my guess if they allowed the direct payment they shouldn't have a problem accepting plastiq, and I have had no problems. YMMV.

That’s Awesome! That’s why I always say “stay firm but polite”. Not everybody succeeds at getting this so you should be very proud of your effort and result!!!

The biggest thing is to be persistent, I had a similar situation with a Bank of America Cash back card, I called in and was told I could get a cashback bonus from product changing my current card, likely an ill-informed rep, as I know now that if you product change you are not entitled to the sign on bonus. I made 3 calls and received two letters informing me I didn't qualify for the sign on bonus, last call escalated to a manager and discussed I was told before the product change that I would receive the bonus and they were able to do it! I have been a BOA customer for >10 years, my first credit card, never received any sign on bonus for the card, so that may have been part of the reason they finally gave in.

:rotfl2:

Who was the someone you knew who was given the extra points when they called about it?

And what did you just post right after getting your points?

LOL!

Just checked my SPG to see if my referral points for DH were there. Not only that, but also my 254 points from our stay at the Four Points by LAX on Friday night, and 500 points from the great weeks/grand weekends promo! For some reason I thought the 500 for a weekend night didn't start until your 2nd stay. We aren't super brand loyal and I only picked that hotel because it was similarly priced to everything else plus I'd earn bonus starpoints, so I'm pretty excited to get the promo points haha.

Haha, I didn't plan on claiming to "know" someone who got the points but they sort of drove me to it by continuing to insist that there was nothing they could do. I knew there WAS something they could do!

I was a little reluctant to post that about the blogs. Do you think the "AMEX people" read these boards? I don't want them to figure out who I am and snatch my points back, haha.

I got the points right away, too. They said they would post within 7-10 business days, but they were in my account within minutes of our conversation.

I’m fairly certain we operate under the radar here on the DIS lol! I’m sure they’re all over r/churning though. I wouldn’t be worried about your points ;) You got ‘em - you’re safe :)

And yes I know I have a problem...I’m planning vacations for 2020 already haha

OMG, that's nothing!! I already have a deposit down for a trip in 2020 that I put down last year to guarantee 2017 pricing on the 2020 trip! I pretty much know what our main summer vacation is going to be up until at least 2022, when we'll be doing an 18th bday trip for my DS. (The 2020 trip is DD's 18th bday trip.) Thus my need for as many miles and points as possible and my love for this thread.....

@SouthFayetteFan I can't figure out the private message function on the dis and I've posted >10 times, my reddit user name is gusgus2016 if you could add me to the dischurners group! Thanks!

Does anyone here pay DVC dues with a cc? I have a CSP, CSR, CIP, and regular Disney Visa as well as Amex BCP. I'm pretty close to maxing out the Amex 6% at grocery stores....I know I could buy Disney gift cards there to pay dues with, but... I am going to downgrade my CSP to one of the Freedom's next month. Maybe I should get the regular Freedom instead of the unlimited?

I pay my DVC dues wit the CSR, and the payments code as travel, so they earn 3x. But I don't have a cc that gives me 5x on gift card purchases (yet!, except for the CF depending on category, but I can max that out without the DVC dues).

It might be more than 10 posts?? I am unable to pm you still and you show with 12 posts.

Thanks! I must not have hit the required amount, I thought I had read it was 10...but then after I hit 10 I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to private message, so good to hear it wasn't just me being oblivious.

It's my day off today, and it is so nice to be able to somewhat keep up with this thread in real time!

The CIP's 3x bonus categories are: (1) travel, (2) shipping purchases, (3) Internet, cable and phone services, and (4) advertising purchases. Category #3 doesn't usually include utilities in the broader sense, e.g., gas, electric, water, trash. Moreover, your gas and electric utility might not accept Amex cards when paid directly.

I'm jumping the gun a little bit here, because I'm still getting the 2 week message when I call the automated status line about DH's CIP app, BUT, does the shipping purchases category include paying for postage on eBay to ship goods that we have sold? Or is it more literally for purchasing shipping supplies like boxes, etc.?

Yes! Set up the CIP to pay eBay shipping costs via PayPal and you'll get 3x.

It does get harder as they get older. My DD's high school allows 10 absences without documentation (more than that, you need a doctor's note or something or it will affect their grades). This spring she is missing either a Friday or a Monday 3 times for family travel. She is a good student, and does a good job of getting assignments ahead/catching up quickly, but it definitely causes her stress (but she likes being able to do the trips). Pulling her out for 1 day at a time seems doable, but it would be really hard if she missed a whole week. It was much easier when she was in elementary school.
:offtopic: warning: What will get you is senior year! Travel for college visits and travel for daytime events resulted in my teacher telling half her honors English class if we went to the district luncheon for CSF (think statewide good grades group) we'd be automatically flunked for missing too much class (we'd all had sports events, band events, college visits, etc. that had caused us to miss a couple weeks in total of that specific class, it must have been the class after lunch). If I'd had to take a single day of my senior year for a family vacation it would have been bad, there were just so many unexpected things that popped up especially in the 2nd semester (day before- oh, you're nominated for the rotary luncheon this month (me: ok... what is that?!), oh our school does get to participate in the district luncheon for CSF, oops on the band trip kids instead of half a day you're missing 3/4 quarters of a day of school because traffic accident...) stuff you really don't see coming but an inordinately large number of us were panicking over days missed by the time we got to graduation because of all these little things. It was obviously a bit traumatic considering I still remember it! (My parents almost maxed out days off earlier in my high school years, I even remember taking a whole week off once, but with college stuff senior year they stopped doing that and good thing they did!)

What? 2 days for Spring Break?
School may get out by Memorial Day but they are back in school by August 15.

We get out 5/18 this year but we go back the first Fri of August.

School schedules don’t line up with our vacations. We have pulled them out the max this year of 25 days (23 are for vacations and 2 were sick.) next year they will miss 11 for sure and probably a few more. Trying not to pull them out too much next year but family time is important

WOW! I'm jealous. We are only allowed 10 total. You start getting nasty grams at 4 days. At 11 you go to truancy court. And all absences are created equal. Doesn't matter sick, vacation, death, etc...

I haven't looked at the kinds of spend you're talking about, but I did see that with Amex the kinds of payments you can do with Plastiq are much more limited. We have some home improvement stuff coming up, and it looks like we can't use Plastiq to pay the contractor using an Amex. Not sure how rigid the limitations are, but as I recall it was a pretty short list of vendor types.

I haven't had to pay any contractors, but I've never seen a negative dp relating to an Amex payment to a contractor. Amex doesn't like mortgages, student loans, and car payments.

I am having a hard time with my AMEX MSR. I haven't been able to use it for platiq and several other things...lunch money for kids, sports sign ups, etc...just b/c stye don't accept amex. Frustrating.

Now where would they get that idea??:teacher::chat::smooth:
