Official Wine & Dine 2018

Agree!! I 100% hope that the rumors of the booths being permanent are NOT true. I wouldn't want the booths there all the time, and I like Food & Wine being its own special thing. But some of the special-ness has already gone away with the booths popping up at other times of the year, so I can see them slowly making them permanent. :sad2:

With 4 festivals during the year already I am surprised they haven't gone to permanent booths.

The entire race weekend theme would need to change, right? :scratchin They DID already announce food-related themes for each race though...

Yeah thats what is weird about this. They announce themes but then everything is on hold.

My guess is that it's #5. With the Guardians ride going up near the Epcot parking lot, the gondolas going up at DHS and Epcot, those all interfere with the courses as they currently stand. I'm sure they are trying to find a different course but maybe they're trying to confirm it will be plausible before making thousands of people sign up, and then afterward realizing logistically it wouldn't work out and having to refund those people. This is all pure speculation on my part, but I could easily see this being the case.

I don't think Guardians has anything to do with this. We ran right past the construction in January (and February) and the area has not widened since then. Both Princess and WDW both ran by gondola construction too. I am not buying the construction claim right now. WDW has a ton of areas to work with/

Could it be a sponsor thing????

Very well could be. Misfit sponsored this last year.

When I pull it up the 10K and challenge are gone...

The same thing happened to me the other day. Refreshed and it was back. It was strange.

Can I throw a pure speculation theory in here. Feel free to shoot down.

Princess has not cycled to 2019 on the Run Disney site. Countdown is locked at 0 days. I sent an email a week ago asking just for Princess dates which has been unanswered. I know the announced dates, but pretended not to know and was asking based on lack of info in the event tabs. Rumors are construction in Jan/Feb may impact princess. Yes. Internet rumors, but hey Run Disney creates this with their amazing communication. Princess is a huge seller while Wine and Dine is less so. So, if for some reason they need to cancel/move a race, it seems likely they will keep Princess. So... are they moving Princess into the Nov dates?
As someone who follows WDW construction and rumors very closely I don't think road construction (like rumors indicate) will impact Princess or WDW. The DHS roads will be nearing completion in 2019 and MK should have sections done by then as well. 2019 and 2020 are big years for completions on property.

Dear Disney:

Only in so far as they have to make the AP/DVC and RunDisney systems work together to ensure that only members get access to the link that then goes to Active for registration. So, in essence, all three sites do have to be in sync to some extent.

This is a 100% solved problem, neither Disney nor Active have to really do anything to make this work. You pass an authentication token from the AP site to Active. It probably took me longer to type out this response than it would to set up the cross-site connectivity.

The doubling-down with including the Nov 1-4 dates in the wording of their message seemed awkward to me- as though there were some reason to include the dates. Makes me think we'll see the same dates, but a time change- back to nighttime?? :scratchin

Your logic is sound, and that may be the problem with your conclusion. Almost nothing RunDisney has done over the past week has made much sense from a logical standpoint.

Sure you can speculate! That's half the fun. :teeth:

I will say - they've already started group sales for Marathon and Princess weekends, so I would think those ones are pretty set. Obviously they have sold bibs before and then made changes, and I'd like to think they've learned from those messes, buuuut...

As for the countdown not cycling through, they've never been super great when it comes to keeping their website up-to-date :rolleyes2 so I wouldn't put *too* much stock in that.

Yeah, but active has to be set up to receive the auth token and change permissions based on that. Not sure active has that system, and I doubt they're setting it up just for runDisney.

But what do I know ... I'm still sitting here baffled that people are seeing the 10k disappear and reappear, because the idea of pushing non-finalized changes to production horrifies me.

Sooooo, everyone ready for this. Just for kicks and giggles, I called runDisney just to see what they would offer as a reason for the hold up. Would you all believe they told me to keep refreshing the page that registration is still on for sometime today? The CSR even went so far as to put me on a short hold (again) as if checking their information, and came back maintaining what was spoken in the first place. o_O

So just to play along, I tried to register at 12:01 as an AP and got the same Star Wars and renew your AP pages as I got last week. Nobody should be surprised except for the ill informed RunDisney people you spoke with.

Disney and learn from mistakes doesn't go together well.

It's embarrassing that this is just what we expect from them when it comes to stuff like this. I mean...it seems like they SHOULD be embarrassed, but...?

Can I make sure I'm understanding this correctly? AP registration did not open today and as far as we know, regular registration isn't opening tomorrow? Just trying to confirm I'm not missing something. Thanks!

Yeah, I get that the AP/DVC log-in issues are incredibly frustrating, but would they really delay *all* of registration because 5-10% (whatever the number is of early AP/DVC bibs) of the bibs cannot be claimed a few days early??

They’ve literally been selling CCV with a special option to get early access to up to 4 registrations for a chosen race that goes along with a sort-of-fixed vacation week.

That goes beyond the added perk of registration a week early.

People are still reporting an inability to access the benefits page of their AP/DVC account.

That’s pretty normal over the years. They’d gotten their act together recently, but thinking over the years they tend to fiddle with the registration ap/Dvc portal page until the moment before registration.

I don't believe it will be a date change. They wouldn't have doubled down on Nov 1-4 in the delay announcement. It was not necessary to include.

Oh they doubled down repeatedly in different ways with light side and Tink until the end.

alexa how many millions was disney going to bring in today selling bibs?

Lol.

But I have fun on race mornings (or for this west coaster, those race nights when I should just be getting to sleep lol) adding up the costs. Fuel for buses. Buses. Drivers. Jackets for volunteers. Food. Boxes for food. Bananas. Overtime. Liability insurance for employees and volunteers (I was in the tent getting my volunteer jacket January 2015 5k when part of the tent fell on a volunteer’s head and she had to be taken to the hospital). Etc etc etc.

I don't think the AP/DVC page has anything to do with active.com though....

Many people do link to active through that...

ummm you don't need that link from that AP page...

Many don’t know that.

By phone you tend to reach normal CMs pretending they are rD.

I was literally just going to throw it out there that maybe they are changing the race distances (maybe adding in a 10 miler or something) for the weekend

And then they could make the 10miler a night race and make it TOT themed and....cancel it?

If only they cared.

Right?

I’m not even a programmer, but I worked for amazon, and the family paycheck has come from there for well over 10 years cumulatively, and it’s just embarrassing the way Disney does it. Especially since we KNOW that a bunch of managers at Seattle’s Disney IT came directly from amazon. You’d think they could implement what amazon does, but they don’t. And they hire 18 year old interns to do what they are told. It’s rotten. Disney just doesn’t care.

The package I booked for this weekend was only available to book from Princess weekend until March 3rd. You only had to book a room plus registration. No ticket was required which was good for me since I have an AP.

I get what you're saying, but
1. those perks are never guaranteed, and
2. registration day is SUCH a big event that again, I'd really question the decision to delay it for the other like 20K bibs (way underestimating here) that they are going to sell. People plan and take time off of work for this - I think they'd get way more complaints from the 90% of people doing general registration vs. the APs. :confused3

Reeeeeally, that is interesting!

I totally get your point as well. I just don't see the harm in letting them do it say, one day earlier. I know they aren't guaranteed but I don't think one day will really make a HUGE difference in complaints. I really do see both sides of it and maybe since this is my first registration I don't totally grasp the mad rush to get in yet, and I can understand that people who've experienced the rush of registering before might see it differently than I do currently. To each their own but I personally wouldn't complain if I was delayed registering by a day for this - although I am lucky in the sense that I am able to do it at work without needing to alter any schedules so I might have it a lot easier than others who do have to plan to take time off to do so. It's just a head scratcher all around!! I think to me it's also like, well, if registration is already delayed a week, what is another day BUT as I said I have a pretty free-flowing schedule at work and I am sure if I didn't I would be way more annoyed.

I agree totally that this is definitely an interesting situation and I feel like for such a huge company, Disney should be super prepared for IT issues like this. I know things happen and IT systems love to freak out at the best times but I am not sure, I feel like that's not all that's going on here....but I am crossing my fingers for the best!

You mean the same runDisney CSR's who told me that AP registration was to start at noon on 3/6...then it was 3/8...then it was 3/12....then its was :headache:o_O

I reorganized meetings AGAIN to accommodate this registration. I'm going to stop doing that. It's not a big deal, but GEEZ DISNEY. :headache:

The 10k/Challenge description was coming and going for me too. I get that they are fiddling with the site, but it doesn't seem like much is changing with every appearance/disappearance of the info. It's just weird all around.

I am so looking forward to this race - I enjoyed it so much last year! I hope runDisney figures out whatever they are dealing with ASAP.

As one of the people burned by RunDisney for Light Side--they kept my money for 10 months while they figured things out--this shouldn't surprise me. And yet ... it's pretty amazing that a company the size of Disney can be so shoddy with stuff like this and get away with the lack of communication. I didn't realize about the IT department coming from Amazon. I'd definitely expect better.

I'm glad you brought up the CCV. I was just commenting to a friend that I was *so* glad we hadn't bought one of the guaranteed weeks. The W&D being one of the cheapest was the one we were looking at. It was partially the issue of what happens if the race disappears that held us back--according to the DVC person you were basically SOL if they got rid of a particular race. You could end up paying a premium and if they got rid of a specific race like W&D your points just reverted to regular points. She tried to tell me how unlikely this was, etc, and I had to tell her about Light Side and the other west coast RunDisney events, LOL.
