Pop Century Room Renovations

Yes the info about BLDG 4 was up to date until Skellingtonfan posted today. I was there last week, scrappinginontario has been there all week. As of a week ago only one wing of 4 was "closed" to guests but other than some mattresses the rooms untouched. Now that today they are closing more of the building, I would expect to see lots of activity pulling out all the interior furnishings and demolition to begin. They will likely roll the stuff to the lake path and take it out that way, and it will likely be noisy at the pool while they demo that side of the building ... we experienced this last year by the computer pool. This building will not be done/open for some time to come.

@jenpan If you received your location, what was it?
Per a phone conversation yesterday, I was told tentative building 4 first floor near stairs by lobby. I have a PPV ressie. I will assume that will change based on info posted here today. Maybe I will get a refurbished room.

I've never heard of anyone given any info like that ...... but if that is correct I would say you would get a refurb room (those were more or less done a week ago) if they do indeed close all of 4. It seems like other buildings closed in sections (which makes construction sense for manpower) and then at some point was all closed. But they are way behind so maybe they will alter their plan and pull whole buildings at once.

Have a great trip.

Booked standard for last week of Feb. I requested ground floor and 70’s. From what I can gather, looks like a renovated room is possible. Was also told the walk from that section wasn’t bad either (if we get it)

I just noticed king beds are not an option on the requests, is that something I need to call and ask to be added? It's not a huge deal if we don't get one, so i'm not overly worried.

Yes, king bed is not a bootable category at the Value of Deluxe resorts. If you look at post 2, there's a room layout and key. Only about 5% of Pop rooms have king beds.

Just returned from a one week stay, and a word of warning for anyone who happens to be assigned to room 6418- it was a freaking nightmare for a room. Prior to this stay, we've never experienced issues with excessive noise. This even includes a two week stay in a refurbished room last September; maybe we just got super lucky??

So 6418 is a renovated, connecting room. The location is great being just adjacent to Everything Pop (we booked a standard room and I believe this location is considered preferred??? ). Around 7p, we were resting peacefully in our room after our long 14 hour drive, and then it went downhill real fast. The guests in the connecting room of 6419 came back. We woke up in an absolute panic thinking that they were in the room with us. I am not exaggerating. Not only could we hear EVERY WORD in their conversation, we could hear their kids splashing water in the tub, could hear every sound of them using the toilet, could hear their footsteps, could hear them unzippering their bags, could hear EVERYTHING. It was the most insane level of noise we had ever experienced anywhere in all of our travels. I immediately went down to the front desk and spoke to a manager "Ariel." There was no way we were staying in that room for a week...NO.WAY. He grudgingly listened to my concerns and to make a very long and exhausting story short, we were moved to 6413 the next day. This room also came with its share of problems (excessive noise, hair on bathroom & shower floor, spiders on ceiling, malfunctioned a/c wall controller and refrigerator, just to name a few). Our entire stay was just bad. The renovated rooms are great, but just be aware that if you receive a connecting room, you might be subject to unacceptable insane levels of noise (or maybe not).

Oh, and be aware that you might also hear LOUD construction from the new roadway being created behind AoA. Massive cranes were piling driving and the banging reverberated across the buildings at Pop. This is on top of the renovation work being done in the remaining 60's buildings. Again, not saying you will experience these noise disturbances but it's something to be made aware of.

We come to Disney as its our escape, our place to be free from stress. This trip could not have been further from this.

Wow, I haven't had a connecting room yet (three refurbished rooms so far) so my noise experience has been minimal. I have been in building 7 all three times, and I haven't heard any gondola or road construction noise either, but it's possible that the way the buildings are laid out that sounds could be amplified in some areas and decreased in others. I know it's that way in our neighborhood - there are a couple spots in the street where you can have a whispered conversation and it sounds like you're shouting because of the way it bounces off the houses.

I had a bad noise experience on a trip to CR a few years ago. I don't understand why people can't be more considerate of their neighbors in hotels. We have "indoor" and "outdoor" voices for a reason! Our room at CR was connecting, and I ended up practically filling the space between the two doors with towels trying to muffle the noise a bit (I'm sure the housekeeper wondered where all the towels went until check out day). It helped, but we were still miserable.

Off topic to your quote, but curious what the weather is like in the evenings? Do we need a warm-ish jacket and pants once the sun goes down?

Even in August, I need a sweatshirt at night in Orlando, so no matter what I'd bring at least one jacket and pair of pants, sweats, jeans, whatever is comfortable for you.

We had a big problem with loud guests in aconnecting room at Paradise Pier Hotel at DLR once. We complained at the front desk, but it was late and we were settled and they said the neighbors were checking out the next day, so we stayed put. Security even came and asked them to be quiet, but it didn't help. I'm pretty sure the dad was body slamming the little boys on the bed or something. It was wild.

I'm sorry you went to the trouble of moving and still had problems.

Okay, then, that's loud. The bathrooms don't even share a wall in connecting rooms!

I think it's a combo of the plastic shower walls, heavy sliding shower doors, and the rooms being majority hard surfaces - so they don't absorb sound.

Each trip we have been well aware (even woken up) .... people taking showers (this last trip LOTS each day all around us morning and night) because you hear the water hitting the walls, especially made worse by the hand held shower. Any soap or toiletries dropped is heard so I imagine some kids in a bathtub - having fun, laughing, rolling about would be very loud and sound will bounce around rooms.

When you have real tile; between the cement board, tile cement and real tile floors you just don't hear all the noises. With plastic walls and vinyl floors there is no longer the natural sound barriers. With shower curtains there was nothing to hear but these doors easily slide and so if you let go bang into the walls.

Used to be all we heard were toilets at POP, now we hear everything.

Walked around the resort today doing the scavenger hunt for icons. They were in construction mode on buildings 4 and 5 lakeview and inside courtyard. They were transporting steel beams.

Also saw the skyliner build.

Could you please report on the Skyliner progress? On support pole went up near Pop a few days ago but I haven't been able to find any reports of a second one. (Sorry for posting this here, but it's easier with readers of this thread on site.)

Steel beams? To rooms?

I understand that. It just seems odd, with the bathroom being on the wall away from the connecting door.

Not really because it is traveling sound. The sound coming out the bathroom directly hits the connecting door. And even if not, we heard the shower noise coming from both sides of us, above us and one that even seem up and over. The new design means noise and it is bouncing around.

I'm assuming it can be loud whether you have a connecting door or not.

We have had connecting doors and no connecting doors with our refurbished rooms and they all were noisier than before. I did notice this trip with the connecting door the voices seemed even louder ... before the voices were heard or muted ... this time we could understand the conversation had we been listening to them.
