Has anyone had anything stolen from your resort room?

Never at Disney, once at a mid size chain hotel in a small town (left my headphones, called immediately, got a lot of runaround that they did have them, then they didn't and then no one knew what I was talking about).

I do try to make sure my things are in the safe or tucked away if I'm getting the room serviced, I'm one of those that declines housekeeping more often then not, but the fact is that I have left stuff out at Disney (money, electronics, meds, merchandise) and not had anything taken.

A couple of years ago we stayed at OKW. My wife swears she left her phone charger plugged in next to the bed as she usually does. One day we returned and couldn't find it. We also couldn't find it anywhere in our luggage when we returned home. We don't take our chargers to the parks, so we think it was taken. I did mention it in the survey, I'd hate to accuse anyone of stealing, but I really have no other explanation as to where it could have gone.

If it wasn't in her carryon it could just as easily been taking from her bag somewhere outside of the room.

Many trips, many hotels, WDW, Universal, off-site- no problems with theft.

Actually the opposite! All too often, housekeeping doesn't take the tip we leave for them! I almost always even take a moment to put the tip on the notepad and write THANK YOU! on the notepad. And still they don't always take it!

Sometimes I have used the safe, but more than once we had problems with the safes not working properly. We then lost time waiting for a service person to come to our room. And well, the service guy was able to open the safe very quickly!

So I don't really trust the in-room safes.

I don't generally leave much of value in the room, and I try not to leave much of anything out in plain sight, especially any prescription meds.

If I had to leave any meds in the room, I'd either lock my suitcase or disguise them by NOT putting them in obvious PRESCIPTION PILL BOTTLES if possible. Would a thief think to search a mini-M&M's tube or even a Tylenol bottle for narcotics?

I used leave a 10$ bill out for mousekeeping, many times they would leave it. Now I make cute "thank you mouse keeping" envelopes so they know it's for them.
We've tried this too.

It usually works at WDW, but not always.

It frequently doesn't work well at non-WDW hotels. Surprisingly, it doesn't work well at the Universal hotels....though you'd think they be used to lots of overlap guests!

Many non-WDW housekeepers leave little ID notes, so we try to leave our tip beside their note, and that usually works.

Otherwise as I said earlier, we've taken to writing Thank You! on the in-room note pad and leaving that with the tip. (Also handy if we need to request anything like more tissues.)

That said, WDW staff does seem to appreciate the envelopes.

Never had that problem on any of my 9 trips. 8 of which we used housekeeping. My tip is always use the safe in the room if you're worried. It's free anyway!

30+ trips onsite, and nothing touched/stolen. We had never been cautious about it until the last few years (and, by cautious I mean we lock up our cash during the day...we don't bring anything other than phones with as far as "expensive stuff").

Not at Disney, but at a popular all inclusive chain in the Caribbean. We were staying their little cottages that was on the edge of property, and house keeping was in our room with the door open. A guy came in and took my husband's wallet off the dresser. We were just outside the room by the pool and heard the housekeeper screaming so we ran over to see what was going on. Just in time to see the guy jump the wall and (I kid you not) climb on a horse and ride off. The housekeeper ran after him screaming. I felt awful, because she had left her shoes by the door and cut her foot while she was trying to stop him. My husband had the normal contents of his wallet in the safe, and only had the hotel charge card and $5 in cash in his wallet.

We left our 2br villa at BW(not on points) and realized, as we got to the first floor, we left a hoodie in the front closet. My son went back to the room, housekeeping was in the room and said there was nothing in the closet. We explained this to the front desk, who filed a lost and found report and never heard another word. I guess it disappeared into thin air. Last time I stayed at BW, for a few different reasons, not just this.

I've never had anything stolen but did have a maid step on and break my laptop (she admitted doing it to hotel management when I called to ask)

We've never experienced anything missing from our room at Disney. One time we forgot to lock the safe in the room. Inside the safe was our passports, an ipad, and an envelope with cash in it. Not a single item went missing, and it was fairly obvious that we'd forgot to lock it.

I haven't, but one of my co-workers did. She was staying at YC a few years ago and forgot to put her earrings in the safe before she went to the pool, and they were gone when they went back to the room. She felt she was totally to blame, since she left them on the bathroom counter instead of securing them. It could even be, since they were stud earrings, that the housekeeper didn't see them and wiped them off the counter onto the floor and vacuumed them up. She didn't file a complaint because of her own part in the disappearance and no proof how they disappeared.

I've stayed at AKL-2x, AoA-2x, Poly, Beach Club.
I've stayed at the Holiday Inn, Country Inn & Suites, Days Inn, Super 8, etc.
I've never had anything stolen from any room.
We don't travel with too much expensive stuff, and we keep everything in the safe that we can.

In 3 on-site stays (ASMu, ***, ASMo) we've never had anything stolen.
But of course we don't let anything laying around when we leave the room.

37 years staying at disney... never anything stolen! The medication comments are interesting though. We have never brought any meds other than ibuprofen, so I have never thought about that. Good heads up.

Never had anything stolen. We lock up CC, cash, tablets, etc. Meds are in those day by day trays, so if those are taken, they would have to know what pills are valuable.

But I've always wondered, if housekeeping helps themselves to a piece of candy or a few chips from our stash of munchies. It's not like I count the number of Hershey kisses are in the bag.

Never had anything stollen at any hotel. I use hotel safe, and if the hotel room doesn’t have a safe I put valuables in a locked suitcase. Like passports, electronics, etc. My meds are mostly over the counter Advil, anti nausea, allergy etc but I’ve always kept them in a drawer, not on counter. I never travel with valuable jewelry. My wedding set stays on. If my Alex & Ani bracelets or Brighton gets stollen I’d be sad but I’m not out $$$$. And they stay in the safe.

I've spent untold number of nights (in excess of 100) at a WDW resort and never had a problem with anything stolen.
