House of Cards Season 6 will be Final Season

I just read that article. Many articles are implying that it is due to Rapp, but that really makes very little logical sense to end a money making show over a thirty year old alleged event.

When season five was going on it seemed they were running out of storyline and ways to shock the audience. I think most everyone knew the show had about run its course last season.

Really great show, but time to end it, regardless of Rapp and his allegations.

Well, I hope the cancellation is not a reaction to the allegations. It would be crappy to put many others out of work because of it.

(I don't watch, so I have no opinion on the show's merits.)

I also felt the show was nearing an end but nevertheless really hope it's not ending because of this. I wish people could separate the person from the talent. You can hate Spacey but still appreciate what he does behind the camera.

I tend to agree for the most part, although I do wish that more of Hollywood would be positive role models. Far too many are not.

Still, I don't see how these allegations about an event that may or may not have happened over 30 years ago at a party give anyone new reason to feel negatively toward Spacey. The allegation itself is entirely unsupported by any evidence (at least, any that has come out), other than the words of the person making the accusation- and that person has a lot to gain from making the allegation. And he never said anything for 30 years.

With what is going on in Hollywood with the big Me Too campaign, it will be impossible to tell who is telling the truth and who is just seeking attention. Many celebrities could be at risk of having their reputations attacked, and it could be ruinous for some of them. This whole thing could turn into a big witch hunt- and while I imagine some of the accused are guilty, some of them are probably not.

What does Anthony Rapp have to gain? He's had a very good career on screen and stage. I would think this would be more likely to hurt his career. As for not saying anything for 30 years? Shame. People who are victims of assault feel shame. Compound it with the fact that it happened in a time where being gay wasn't as accepted as it is today, no wonder he didn't say anything at the time. All I know is Kevin Spacey is sure acting guilty.

I am well aware of the talking points about why people don't say anything. And again, there is no way for anyone to know whether he is being honest- or whether his memory is serving him correctly after this much time.

But attention is what he gains. There are plenty of people who will say and do anything for attention. No way to know if he is one of them.

Is it Anthony Rapp's fault? That sits poorly with me. No absolutely not. If you really wanted to place blame I would say it was Spacey's fault, but was more likely just an excuse for them to cancel the show that they kind of already wanted to anyways.

As for why he wouldn't speak sooner? Perhaps because he was a child, perhaps because no one believed anyone when they tried to tell, perhaps because grown people on message boards would blame them for things that happened as a result of their telling, perhaps he felt shame, or perhaps he was worried it tank any chance of a career he had at all. I am sadly shocked at how quickly people throw accusers under the bus and call them opportunists and then wonder why people don't speak up sooner.

It's Spacey's fault that House of Cards, a show that was filmed 30+ years after the allegation, is being cancelled? That's a bit of a stretch. And as another poster said, at this point, it is simply an allegation. That's all it is.

I've loved the show, but after last season in particular I'm not sure it wasn't gasping for breath anyway. Frankly, Kevin Spacey's own comments about the incident tell me all I need to know.

It's going to be interesting how we come to a balance with listening to those who have a legitimate story to tell and not creating an automatic witch hunt. I think the Harvey Weinstein situation got out of hand when the torch runners were circling celebrities for merely hearing a rumor at some point. My favorite has to be the insistence that so and so must have known because they worked with him and everyone knew for years. I've heard rumors about different people I've known to varying degrees over the years -- rumors about all kinds of things. Just because I may work with that person over the course of several years and hear rumors doesn't mean that I necessarily have any idea whether they're true or not unless I see or hear something myself. There was a rumor going around about someone at work for several years. In the end it turned out that the things people were interpreting one way were in fact happening because she was keeping her husband's very difficult diagnosis private.

Add in that perhaps this kind of stuff happened to countless people in that day and age almost nobody talked about it. How may people even right here on these boards could recount a similar event? Society has changed rapidly over the past 10 or so years allowing unprecedented levels of honesty and openness. A supportive campaign like "Me Too" is bound to bring previously unmentioned occurrences to light - isn't that the point of it?

As for Kevin Spacey, I'm perplexed at what people think should happen now. As I understand it he has not denied his actions - acknowledged it was very possible and apologized for what was inappropriate boardering on criminal behaviour. If there are any legal repercussions still possible, he is now open to them. I'm not defending his alleged behaviour in any way AT ALL but really, who among us can say we have clarity on everything we did while drunk and/or high 30 years ago? If someone made a similar claim about me, all I could honestly say is what Spacey has said. I'd be horrified and want to immediately deny it, but the actual truth could neither be proven or disproven at this point.

No legal repercussions, statute of limitations has seriously expired. Perhaps a civil suit but I highly doubt it.

I don't think there will be any legal repercussions or a civil suit. I don't think anyone is looking for a pay day.

What will happen is that people know what he did, his image has been destroyed, and he will be absolutely radioactive in terms of casting for the next 500 years. I understand a planned award has already been rescinded. That's the kind of thing that should happen.

There is so much science and peer reviewed articles that can tell you why it takes 30 years for things like this to come out. And I would put money more are true than untrue. Most people getting caught in these things aren't even denying them at this point (include Spacey and the bassist from Marilyn Manson as the last 2 I have heard about, both of whom basically admitted these things).

Well, Anthony Rapp is now mainstream. I had never heard of him before. But, I'm just saying. I don't know enough on the story to have an opinion on whether he could be lying about it or not.

Allegations aside, I do find the timing of the announcement of the show being cancelled to be odd. If the show ending had already been decided months ago, why announce it on the same day as the Spacey news? Was the announcement planned and this is a big coincidence? Were they on the fence about ending it and this sealed the deal? Was it a rash decision? Or had it truly been decided and Netflix took the opportunity to make themselves look better by announcing it after this came out?
