2017 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival: August 31, 2017 - November 13, 2017

Was there a Theme for the Food this week's PFTS? The September 23rd was Disney Springs and I found the food to range from pretty good to amazing. I didn't eat any of the red meat though that night for Health reasons only the Fish, Pork or Chicken options as well as the deserts which were all except the Gluten free table ones really good.

And it sucks the entertainment wasn't good ours were really good a nice mix of everything to dance to.

9/23 and 10/21 are the only themed nights

This link doesn't list the themes but it lists the featured chefs for every party

Just back from our first F&W trip! We were only there for 3.5 days (Thurs - Sun), but DH and I spent time at the festival every day despite hitting all the other parks as well. First, a few general observations...Thursday was great and so much less crowded. But the other days, although the main thoroughfare was crowded, we never stood in line more than a few minutes at a booth. We also were always able to find a table. Epcot definitely needs more shade though, and more umbrella tables. It was incredibly hot and at some point hot food doesn't taste as good when the weather is so humid. On our last day, we found a great seating area between the Rose & Crown and the Ireland booth. It looks at first glance like it's part of the R&C, but it's not. We sat here for awhile and it never filled up, despite others eating standing up outside the area.

Here's my quick takes on the food we tried...

Brazil
Escondidinho de Carne - Just okay. There didn't seem to be a lot of meat.
Cheese Bread - DH really liked this, but the consistency bothered me a little. Felt like underdone dough.
Frozen Caipirinha - Very tart, but good, especially in the heat.

Australia
Bush Berry Shrimp - Mostly just spicy, not a lot of other flavor.
Lamb Chop - Very good, especially with the pesto of which there was plenty.
Lamington - My very favorite dessert of the festival. It's all the things I love:-)
Shiraz - A good Shiraz, but not earth shattering.

Germany
Bratwurst Pretzel Roll - Very good, but there was a lot more bratwurst than pretzel roll.
Apple Strudel - Good flavor but the sauce seemed watery.
Oppenheimer Riesling - Nice and sweet.

Coastal Eats
Lump Crab Cake - I don't like crab cakes, but DH enjoyed it.
Seared Scallops - Very good and there were more scallops than I expected per serving.
Pinot Gris - Just okay.

Block and Hans
Frozen Spiked Tea - Not very tea like, but yummy. Had more of a fruit flavor and was bright red.

Hops & Barley
Lobster Roll - Had a very clean taste, not a strong, fake-lobster taste.
Smoked Brisket and Pimiento Cheese - Very yummy, but not nearly enough pimiento cheese.
Carrot Cake - Moist and cinnamony.
Beer Flight - All three were good but I especially liked the coffee flavored one.

Farm Fresh
Crispy Chicken - Really good, and the portions of the chicken, cornbread and gravy were equal.
Raspberry Hard Cider - I love raspberry and this had a strong flavor.

Japan
Wasabi Dumplings - One of my favorites from the whole festival. The wasabi was just present enough to give flavor without overpowering.
BLT Sushi Roll - Good, but really hard to eat and a little too much lettuce.
Pineapple Sake Cocktail - Sweet and tangy.

Morocco
Hummus Fries - I don't like hummus, but was surprised by liking these. Crispy and the sauce is great.
Chocolate Baklava - Not as strong of a chocolate flavor as I would have liked.
Moroccan Sangria - Good. Seemed to have more depth than some other sangrias. Not cold enough, though.

France
Boeuf Bourguignon - Just okay. Should have had a deeper flavor.
Creme Brulee - DH really enjoyed it and liked the raspberry flavor.
Sparkling Kir - Really sweet and delicious.
Passion Martini Slush - My favorite drink of the whole festival. I might not have liked it as much if it hadn't been so hot, but it was so perfect for the weather and had a sweet yummy flavor.

Ireland
Irish Sausage and Potatoes - Great Irish comfort food. Could have used a little more gravy.
Cheese and Stout Dip - Good flavor but the dip to bread ratio is ridiculous. You are left with so much dip after the bread is gone.
Chocolate Pudding - Very rich and chocolatey.

Canada
Filet Mignon - After so much hype, not nearly as good as I wanted it to be.
Cheese Soup - ditto

Hawaii
Kalua Pork Slider - Really good with great flavor.
Spam Hash - My hands down favorite. So flavorful. I was thrilled to see the recipe in the cookbook and have already bought Spam:-)
Cheesecake - Just okay. Not a strong fruit flavor.
Pineapple Wine - DH really enjoyed it - he loves pineapple, me not so much.
Mai Tai - Typical Mai Tai.

Craft Beers
Scotch Egg - I would have liked it a lot better not chilled.
Handwich - This had a weird flavor for me, not sure if it was the kind of cheese used but tasted off.
Blonde Ale - Just okay.

Spain
Charcuterie in a Cone - I really liked the tangy vinaigrette, but too many olives.
Paella - Just okay. The rice didn't have much flavor at all.
Seafood Salad - Very good and refreshing.
Wine Flight - I was surprised at how much I didn't care for these wines. Just kind of blah.

Flavors from Fire
Piggy Wings - Good flavor but not spicy at all. Hard to eat - too messy with fingers and difficult to get meat off the bone with a fork.
Corn Beef with Potatoes and Fondue - Really, really flavorful. I almost licked the container:-)
Pancake with Chicken Sausage - Pretty good but needed more onion jam.
Swine Brine - Not nearly as bad as it looks. Actually tastes kind of sweet.

Active Eats
Loaded Mac 'n' Cheese - So, so good. Awesome flavor. I could have eaten at last three of these.
Roasted Salmon - Just okay. Not a lot of flavor and the quinoa was really cold and weird.
Cucumber Hard Sparkling Water - Great and refreshing. Could be dangerous because it doesn't taste alcoholic at all :-)

Chocolate Studio
Liquid Chocolate Truffle - Not as much chocolate flavor as I would have liked but interesting.
Lenotti Recioto - Very sweet, good with the truffle.

We also did two tasting events, the Tequila Lunch and the Sake pairing. They were very, very different. The sake pairing only had 9 people there. The food was absolutely amazing and there was so much of it. They were very generous with the sake, too. The presentation was a little stilted though. The Tequila lunch was kind of the opposite. Forty or so people, and great humorous presentation. Not nearly as much food though, and no drink refills. The steak entree was very good, but the rest of the food was just kind of okay.

I can't wait to go back next year and do everything again!

Based on my own spending of an 8-pack of Sampler coupons, I rate these being the best buys with #1 being best for me enjoyment wise:

10. Joffrey's Coffee and Kalhua Festival drink at the Joffrey's cart in Canada.

9. Spicy apple margarita at Mexico kiosk.

8. Caipirinha from Brazil kiosk.

7. Frozen mojito from Islands of the Caribbean.

6. Classic Lime Margarita in Mexico.

5. Ritzy Lychee at China kiosk.

4. Rosa Regale from the Chocolate Studio

3. Veuve Clicquot, Almond Orchard

2. Moët & Chandon Imperial Rose at Almond Orchard.

1. LePassion frozen martini at France Festival kiosk.

If this list is appealing to you, get the Sampler.

Nice list. To your list, I’d add the Dole Whip with Rum at The Refreshment Port.

YUM!! (Also I think I'm tipsy just reading that list!)

Can you use the 20% off at Joffrey's coupon that comes with the "Magical Extras" card from the Disney Travel Company on their alcoholic beverages? (If so, that would be a better use than using the sampler tab.)

We went to the 10/7 PFTS (reserved seating) and had a great time. It was chaotic at the beginning due to the rain and confusion. I spoke to a few people while waiting and they had said they booked reserved seating because in past years it avoided the general admission rush and were upset with the fact that everyone was let in the same time this year. I understand now that it was due to the rain and appreciate not having to stand outside.

We had a wonderful table right next to the WVL and found it really comfortable. Our servers were incredibly attentive and even brought us drinks at one point. I thought having a glass to bring around for the Hastings was a great idea and loves that we got to keep it. The plate with the holder for the glass was a good idea in concept only. Most food was plated in advance so it was challenging to balance the on the plate with the wine holder and we eventually just stopped using it.

The food was very good with the salmon, pork belly bao and short ribs coming out as our top three. There were a few misses but more hits. The wines were some nice high end wines and you could go back for multiple glasses. Desserts however were lacking. The doghnut was ok, the pumpkin verrine was fair and the chocolate truffles gone by the time we got there.

A highlight was meeting FastPasser and thanking him for all his tips.!

All in all a great event!20171010_171833.jpg20171010_171743.jpg

DH and I have been here at food and wine for the past two days and have enjoyed the loaded Mac and cheese, chicken and cornbread, Martini slush (France), pumpkin chai with caramel vodka and several of the beers. Food portions have been generous, wine and beer portions noticeable smaller than previous years though I will say the martini slush was a good portion size.

Lines for world showcase food and wine have been nonexistent though we will say at all the parks it is much more crowded and were told Alabama schools are on fall break as are several north east schools.

Those LePassion martinis were the bomb of the 2017 F&W Festival. My favorite drink this year. Last year, I was partial to the jalapeño margarita. I swear they tweak the recipes from year to year. Last year's LePassion was quite floral/herbal so I didn't love it. This year, it's got more tang and fruit flavors. Yum!

A good drink makes the World go round. :)

We'll be in Epcot for one day when Boyz II Men are doing the Eat to the Beat concert. We'll be there on the Wednesday, so it's their last day and it's a non-EMH day. What would you recommend in terms of show times? It seems convenient to take in the last show followed by Illuminations, but do a lot of locals come in after work to catch the last show(s)? Would we be better of going to the 5:30pm show and when should we get in line for a seat without (mistyped that before editing) a dining package? I don't care about being up front, but I want my mom to have a place to sit. Thanks!

You won't see too many locals late on a Wednesday night.

I will add that Boyz II Men is one of the most popular groups performing at the festival. They will draw crowds no matter the day. If you want to assure a seat during the last show I would suggest that you get in the stand-by line during the second show. They will clear the seating area between shows during the more popular groups. We have been in EPCOT the last two years during their shows and it was extra crazy in the American Adventure Pavilion all evening.

Thank you both. I was indeed expecting Boyz II Men to draw a crowd, that's why I'm trying to guess which time would be best. The first show might draw the biggest crowd because it's the first one of the day, but then again, the word might get out to people who didn't know about the concert to begin with, leading to a bigger crowd for the later shows.

Princess Jasmine, based on your experience, how long in advance do you think we would have to get there for the first show?

I don’t know how Boyz II Men compares to Everclear, but I told my wife I didn’t want to waste time waiting in line ahead of time for seats. I’ve witnessed the craziness in the past and expected long lines and hour-long waits. However, we were walking by about five minutes before the second show and there were plenty of open seats. And that was a Saturday. So, we enjoyed the concert.

Yeah the line for the 1st Show was outrageous for Everclear went into Africa. I didn't realize they were so popular because there was no line for David Cook.

Is it possible to pick up a list of food and drink options at the parks, or are they just available online from various sources?

Do you mean the passport??

Maybe. Does that list all of the food and beverage options? I've seen extensive websites with the information broken down by country (there's a link at the beginning of this thread for instance) and long spreadsheets.
I'd rather have something in hand to look through so I'm not trying to read the tiny screen on my phone the whole time.

If nothing is available there I'll try to create my own before leaving but i won't bother if I can pick one up at EP.

Yup - it lists all of the food and beverage options available at the kiosks.
