Hanging up my running shoes

Great race and great write-up! Congratulations on the new PR! Love that top they gave you - the cowbell on the back just makes it so awesome!

I just want you to know, I was listening to "Don't Fear the Reaper" while reading this recap. It did not have enough cowbell.

Congrats on the awesome PR! I know you had your doubts about just going for it, and I'm really glad you went out there and did it and got a great PR. Bonus points to @Chris-Mo for being an awesome encourager and run partner and helping you get to the finish.

Now you get to celebrate this one all the way to your Dopey corral!

Oh wow, really well done on your PB. Love the outfit. You know what made me chuckle when I read your report was the way you put your race objectives in descending order of probability, yet you went out and got something you didn't even imagine you could.

Congrats on your PR!

Looks like you also got some good race swag which makes the PR even sweeter because you can wear it and remember the great race you had!

Okay, so first and foremost: your marathon shirts this year need to have "F*** tired!" on them! Perfect for the Dopey Challenge...let's just ignore the fact that it's not super family friendly, yes? But really, you will need to hear "F*** tired!" by marathon morning.

Amazing job - I had no doubt both of you would crush this race. Look at all of those sub-10:00/mile splits! Also, you are a true hero for feeling like puking at the end, NOT puking, and then having a beer right after. That takes true skill. So proud of you both!

Amazing job! You guys killed it! I ran his race too and the weather was perfect but that steady incline really took it's toll. Congratulations!

Nice work! Congrats!!! Love that medal...

:banana::banana::banana:

Thank you! And, yeah, that medal. LOL

Thank you. I'm pretty happy with that top. The cowbell in particular made me happy. I'm easy to please. :)

Is there ever really enough cowbell? I think not. Thank so much. I'm glad I went for it too and couldn't have pulled it off without @Chris-Mo

2:11???!
Holy Bleep!!!
Hot Dang!!!

I have a new goal...to be as fast as zellyb :)

You are FASTER than Zellyb. Just need to find that perfect race with great conditions and you will kill it!

Congrats on an awesome run and a new PR!

I love your "shut up legs" mantra. I may need to borrow it sometime. Sometimes in my case it's more "shut up brain" haha.

Yeah, I'm not sure how much of the time it was my legs and how much was my brain. I think some of both! Thank you.

I honestly didn't think I could pull of a sub-2:15 and was sketchy on making the 2:15, so it was pretty exciting to see that final time. Thank you!

Congrats on your PR!

Thank you. I'll definitely be wearing that top in future. Well, as long as I don't gain much weight that is.

You did great @ZellyB huge congrats! Very happy you were able to smash the race, just wow! That's a great race shirt too, so nice when you get a good one that you'll actually be able to wear. Yay to you!!!

Thank you! I've gotten some lousy shirts before that I've never worn again, so this was a nice surprise.

Chris was surprised I wrote it on a Disney message board, so not sure I should risk it on a shirt at the parks, but it will definitely be running through my mind. :rotfl: You know, sometimes you just have to power past the desire to puke to get to the beer. :drinking1

Hey, fellow Mo Cowbeller!! Congrats on your race as well. We've run this race once before, so I remembered the hill and knew it would be a challenge, but luckily managed to get through that bit!

SO AWESOME! I'm so glad you went for it, just LOOK at that result! What a fun recap to read (that medal though...). Huge congrats!!!

Thank you! I'm so glad I went for it too.

I'm thinking that might be a good medal to donate. :D I almost think they deliberately design strange medals as part of the shtick.

Yay! Yay! Yay!!

I loved reading your recap! You had such an awesome race and shout out to @Chris-Mo for being an amazing running partner. I am feeling all sappy this morning reading this... nothin' like crushing goals with your lifetime crush. :)

I have a thing for quarter zips, so that race shirt is really speaking to me- cute!

As a fellow Galloway runner, you are especially inspiring. Someday I want to go back and read your journal from the beginning. I want to be fast like you!

Thank you!! If not for my amazing running partner and hubby, I really don't think I would have stuck with running like I have. He's pretty special!

I love quarter zips. I have one other one that I got for a local 6-miler that is my all-time favorite shirt. Our local marathon had quarter zips last year and I was so excited about them, but they ended up being pretty bad. You just never know.

I think we Galloway runners sometimes don't give ourselves enough credit. I know toward the end of the race trudging up that hill there were a whole lot of runners who were walking and we were managing to move past them, so there's real value in those planned walks. It's been a long path with ups and downs to increase my speed. When we first started running, I was more around 12 - 12:30 minute miles and it's just been a slow and steady improvement to get here. Who knows? This may be my threshold (I'm not getting any younger after all), but maybe the future will allow me to improve even more. Either way, I take a lot of joy and accomplishment from running, so I'm not stopping any time soon!

Congratulations again ZellyB! Loved reading your recap! The medal made me LOL. :P
I'm so glad you went with the go for broke approach!!!
And, I am filing this latest extremely inspirational chapter of yours for the future.

Thank you! I'm really happy we did it too. I really didn't think I could pull it off, so I guess going for broke sometimes really does work out!

I always have a hard time knowing what sizes to order for women's sizing- it's always a gamble on race shirts for me.

It is hard to walk in races so early and I am nervous about doing it at my first non-disney half at the end of the month. I feel like I still have a lot to learn and a lot of room for improvement and just need to buckle down and do it. When you started, did you follow the plan of 2 days during the week (30 min) and LR on the weekend like the plan suggests? I have been doing that with occasionally a 4th run, but I feel like I need to commit to 4 days/week. I also currently am using a 60 sec walk break and know I need to adjust to 30 sec, but changing intervals seems hard!

On to the next challenge, right?

Or, what's next for ZellyB?
Because resting on your laurels is no fun.

This half-marathon PoT/PR effort has been my primary focus for some time now, but with that checked off the list, it's on to the next thing right?

Next race on the books is our local marathon scheduled for November 5th. Our training schedule with our Galloway group has us running a 26 mile training run on 10/14. I had to miss our 23 mile training run and much as I love Jeff Galloway, I'm not convinced running 26 in training is necessary. Rather than jump from a 20-miler up to 26, I'm going to adjust my route that day to just run 22-23 miles instead. That will still set me up well for the marathon I think. My goals for the marathon are a bit less complicated than the half I just ran.

I've honestly never had a great marathon. I had a decent one on our first Goofy run, but it was decent in that I didn't feel like death at the end, but it wasn't fast, because DISNEY run! So, my current PR for a marathon is 5:40ish. I don't even remember for sure. :D So, this time I'm shooting for 4:59:59. That's around an 11:25 m/m pace. Seems doable if conditions are favorable and my final long training run goes well. I've mapped out the remainder of our runs leading up to Dopey as well with 2 sets of 4 consecutive days running with the max being a series of 3,6,11 and 22. If we manage to pull all of that off, then I feel pretty confident going into Dopey and will certainly be the best trained I've been for a Disney marathon weekend. Time is never the object for me with Disney races, but being in good shape and able to fully enjoy each race is my primary goal!

So, off we go on the next training cycle. Or, as Edna would say it...
