Hurricane Irma?

Disneys website is flakey at its best day. If a CM or TA told u it was cancelled it may still show up but will eventually fall off.
Ok, thank you. Hopefully it goes away soon. No confirmation email or anything, but she said she canceled it.

Has anyone seen refunds yet from cancelled reservations? I only cancelled yesterday but I'm just curious...

I live in Tampa. My family has done all we can to prepare, and now it feels strange just to sit and wait. I moved all my husband's stuff into my closet so we can turn his closet into a hurricane room if necessary, since it's the only downstairs, inner, windowless room in the house. I've got tons of water, and enough Spaghettios, Cliff bars, and fruit cups to feed an army. The freezer is full of gallon jugs of water and I've got my biggest cooler clean and ready. I've made a video of the house and all our possessions for insurance purposes. We brought the pool furniture and the plants into the garage. All the laundry is done. Valuables and sentimental items are protected. I'll fill all the sinks and tubs with water Sunday evening. The cars are full of gas. I have an emergency bag packed and in the car in case we have to leave for the local shelter. Irma is not supposed to be coming for two more days and I don't know what else to do! If you think of something I forgot let me know! :-)

Of course I'm concerned for my family and my friends and neighbors, but I also feel bad for all whose Disney plans have been messed up. I know how much I treasure my vacations and I would be very upset if this happened to me. Of course people's lives and homes are more important than people's vacations, but vacations are important too.

I wish everyone at or coming to Disney the best (and safest) possible vacation under the circumstances, and for those who have had to postpone your trips, I hope it all works out for you and you eventually go and have a wonderful time. Disney is always worth the wait!

Excellent planning. Do you have access to a generator and gasoline/oil for it? very handy if power stays out for extended period. i.e save the fridge of food mostly, and ice supply.

Be safe,

Dave in Houston

Well, thankfully our trip was over before this became a major concern.... But I have been following this thread because it is a fascinating study in human psychology mimicking a disease/death emotional cycle: Denial, bargaining, resistance, acceptance, etc.

Go back to first pages of this and see all the denial that this storm would even come close to Disney, then as it did there was so much confirmation bias that the outlying models that had it missing Disney were the ones that would happen.
Then as it has locked down on it's course, fear set in among a lot and the plans were/are cancelled... but also the defiant ones who decided they were going to go/stay no matter what under the umbrella of "Disney is a safe place to be' Now the sides are causing friction and the 'arguing' is escalating as the tensions rise all around with the actual impact about to occur. It has been interesting seeing all the ranges and shifting of peoples thoughts and actions.

As to hurricanes in general, I have been through several...even Super Typhoons on Okinawa which is just a dot in the ocean with nothing to impede them. I didn't have the option to evacuate for most of them and luckily was in facilities designed to withstand them. (always said the U.S. under builds for hurricanes in the area's they can hit... a lot of the destruction is a result of that). For the most part everything was pretty much ok after them. But of course you never know what is going to happen. Will see in a couple days whose predictions/decisions were correct.... who will regret their decisions and who will take comfort they made the right ones.

Just know you are being studied... ;)

We are in the "still going" camp. Set to arrive tomorrow at 10:30 am at MCO. Will probably try to steal a little park time before the closures and then button down the hatches for a couple of days. We will be at Wilderness Lodge, so I can't say I will be sad about having to stay put for 2 days. Who else still plans on going in ahead of the storm and riding it out?

I'm here and completely get what you mean about having to stay at Wilderness Lodge for a couple days. I'm at Animal Kingdom Lodge so I feel the same way!

I just want to say: I've read every single one of these 212 pages (so far) and there are so many different moving and compelling stories and reasons and motivations for these folks' trips (the brave woman with a brain tumor, the daughter whose dad is having heart surgery, etc. etc. etc.) I couldn't even begin to judge folks on their own individual decisions on this issue. It's not up to me to tell them what to do or to criticize them for their decisions, whatever it may be. And even if it was -- the point has been made. Move on. Sweep your side of the street.

Sending all good wishes to everyone who finds themselves in the path of the hurricane, for whatever reasons.

For those riding this out at a Disney Resort, bear in mind that you may be in your room for 24-48 hours. I keep reading (not just here, on Facebook too) about activities in the lobby, characters, etc. That will definitely be something they try to do if they can, but at some point you will be confined to your room. Just make sure you have food, water, and activities so the kids don't go stir crazy. I would plan for enough supplies for 48 hours; better to be way overstocked than understocked.

Why would they keep people in their rooms 48 hours? I assume you're only kept in your room during the actual storm.

They have to check for structural damage to the resorts after the storm passes. Last thing they need is for a stray shingle to fall on someone's head

True I meant a place like AKL where it's all inside.

I'm so happy eveyrone cancelling their trips has this place to vent and be supported. I imagine a lot of non Disney people might think it's silly. But a vacation is special and we know how much this means to all of you effected. Best of wishes we are all thinking of you!

Thank goodness for the DIS. About 10 minutes after we cancelled our trip yesterday I posted on FB that we had cancelled and we were sad, along with a picture of me making a sad face. DH and I were very disappointed...and then about 5 minutes after I posted, my own sister texted me and gave me grief for posting and pleaded with me to delete the post. Told me I was being insensitive to those who would be affected by the hurricane. Apparently I was not even allowed to lick my wounds for an hour...and apparently I can't multitask (feel sad for the loss of our trip and be concerned for those affected by the storm).

I KNOW people are in much worse shape than us. Heck, Texas is still suffering! I just needed to "pout" for a little bit before pulling up my big girl panties.

This is essentially why I am not on FB or Insta anymore. Lol.
