Pop Century Room Renovations

Weird request I know but I need to know if I can utilize this area in my arrival day and I didn't even know these existed until yesterday haha

No pictures, but it is a nice area with a couple of showers/changing areas and also some lockers.

Guests are welcome to use it from arrival day to departure day(even after checking out).:)

Most likely, they're not changing the bed size in any room. Or the room configuration. There are 30 non-handicapped rooms with king beds.

I was under the impression that all the rooms were going to be the Queen and Murphy bed configuration. That way ALL the rooms can support either a couple or a family.

Never understood why most (all at the All-Start) King rooms are accessible rooms and only the accessible rooms are King rooms. Is everyone traveling that needs an accessible room only a couple? No families. And no couples (not needing an accessible room) never want King rooms.

We checked in last Saturday. We are in building 9 with connecting rooms per our request. Building 7 is not completed yet, and they have started on building 10. The bridge was closed on Tuesday night, but when my son took a walk Wednesday morning it was open. We have not been back by there, ,so I haven't seen it for a couple of days. We love the rooms! We are ones to clean up after ourselves, so the floors are clean, and tidy. I like that there is no carpet, and I promise, we are trying hard to keep the grandkids from running, and jumping in the rooms, so they don't bother others. :)

How far along would you estimate Building 7 is? Like they are working on finishing details, or still quite a bit of construction?

A lot of people don't know it exists. It's like a unicorn! :D We saw it during several trips years ago. Then the next several trips (over about a 5 year period), even though we rode it at least twice every visit, we always got the gangster version. I thought maybe they stopped doing the cowboy one because we never got it. So I decided to ask about it at the podium. The CM had us step to the side -- never saying why, but I assumed it was so we would have the cowboy version. We were in the front row of the car so I got to chat with the ride CM while waiting for everyone else to load. I told him we were excited to be seeing the cowboy scene this time. He was a CP and said that he had moved to the Orlando area about 5 years earlier and made many visits to DHS before becoming a CP about 6 months prior to our visit. He said he rode GMR every time he visited. He was thrilled when he got assigned to GMR. He said on his first day of training, his manager handed him a large envelope with the scripts. He opened it and noticed there were two. He looked at the manager and said, "There are 2 versions of this ride????? I've never seen the cowboy version and I've probably ridden this ride over 25 times!" We've ridden it another 5 or 6 times since then and have never gotten the cowboy version again. :)

I have had the opposite experience. I had been on GMR four times before and had only ever seen the cowboy scene. I didn't know there was an alternate scene until June of this year when I was reading someone's trip report and they said they got the gangster scene. Mind blown! My husband and I went in July and I told him we had to go on GMR as I heard it might be replaced. We are going back in the end of August and I thought we'd be safe to ride then, but now that I know we won't get to ride again, I'm very glad I finally got to see the gangster scene.

Yes,that's why so few know about it.:)

The Gangster ALWAYS runs with the Cowboy only at times.

The FIRE in Cowboy is awesome!:)

(RUMOR is the FIRE in Cowboy makes it more expensive to run than Gangster.)
I will miss this attraction

We're always there in late June so you'd *think* that's a busy enough time to be running both scenes. :) I think because we usually rode it when there was almost no wait (early in the morning or sometime in the evening), they were probably usually only running the gangster scene. My younger kids (who didn't remember seeing the Cowboy scene in action) would always comment that it seemed like something should be happening when we'd ride through that area. I'd have to explain that something *did* happen in that area sometimes. I'm glad they finally got to see it again. I'll miss this ride even if for nothing more than a place to sit down in the a/c on a hot afternoon. :)

That's so weird bc in order to get free dining I had to down grade from preferred to standard - I agree with others we should hopefully see more frequent and improved progress as we go now that one entire section is almost done

That's odd. I have preferred and got FD. :confused3

There are definitely still going to be king rooms. We've seen pictures (there are pictures somewhere in this thread). Everything I've read indicates that the room configurations won't change -- there will still be king standard rooms; king accessible rooms; and queen (2X) rooms. The only change that seems to have occurred is that some standard rooms now have only a walk-in shower rather than a shower/tub combination. I don't think anyone has figured out if there is a pattern as to where those rooms are located, but I've seen a few different trip reports from people who have been in a renovated room with only a shower.

I know there is at least one handicap accessible room with a roll-in shower at AS Music that has both a king and a double bed in the room (I have no idea how those 2 beds physically fit in one room -- maybe the bathroom is laid out differently and gives the main part of the room a few more inches of space). I haven't actually seen pictures, but there is someone on another message board who has stayed in this room several times. And I've seen other people mention it as well.

Building 7 still has quite a bit of work to be done on it is my understanding. Since Building 8 only opened last week I don't imagine Building 7 being open for at least a month or so.

I decided to switch from preferred to standard pool view. The regular standards were all booked on our dates. I'm hoping this gives us a better shot at a refurbished room.

Getting very excited!!

Sent my fax off today requesting a refurbished room. Not terribly hopeful, but at least I tried! Arriving Tuesday morning. Thanks to those who gave me tips on faxing requests.

Just saw my countdown and Hedwig is on top of Mickey!

I haven't read through the pages of messages but I am booked for our first Disney Vacation in January and I booked CBR because a Queen bed is must for my tall husband and it fit my budget the best. Now learning POP has Queen beds makes me want to reconsider. What would you have to book to ensure a room with a queen? Is changing resorts a hassle once you've made dining reservations.

So is the thought that so long as building 6 starts work by mid September it should be finished mid December given no excessive work like building 7 has had??

They are still in process of the switchover. Currently 2 are done and two more are in process. Goal to be done around May 2018. Refurbished room would not be guaranteed until then. Switching does not affect adrs at all.

Are the lockers coin operated? like put quarters in? and how long can we use them for? I get in VERY early on my check in day and was hoping to leave my one bag in a locker until lunch time

You could leave you bag with Luggage Services for free. Back to your original question, the last time I checked (which was a few years ago) they were coin operated. The amounts were such that you just needed quarters. I can't remember the exact amount, but it wasn't more than $1 or so at the time. Obviously that could have changed by now.

That would be my thought. Figure 3 months to renovate a bldg to be safe - although they beat that just slightly on bldg 9.

If there are extra problems with bldg 7, I would hope they would put extra guys on it to try to still make the 3 month turn.
