Disneyland Hotel or Hyatt House?

We have been to Disneyland once, back in 2013 and stayed at the Sheraton Park Hotel. We enjoyed the hotel but we are looking to do something different.

As a travel agent, I was able to get a wonderful rate on the Disneyland Hotel in a premium view room for about $300 a night. The hyatt house can be had the same dates for about $250 per night. We'll be staying August 7-11.

I am really excited about the idea of staying at the Disneyland Hotel- something I never thought I would have the opportunity to experience. However, a lot of the reviews point to the fact that it is overpriced for what you get with poor service and is not all that convenient to the parks.

What has been your experience with the Disneyland Hotel? Would you stay there again?

For $300 per night in a premium view room, I can't imagine not taking the Disneyland Hotel deal. That's around half of their typical price for that room type. You'll get Extra Magic Hours and a themed hotel. I can't imagine the service would be so poor as to not justify the extra $50 per night.

The reviewers complaining about it being overpriced were not getting it at the half-off deal you are, btw.

Resort deals are not common. I would take that!

There's always mixed reviews on resort stays. And it really depends on the person/family. I personally like it. I don't think it's far. The only thing that slows you down are the idle crowds in DTD. But there is always the monorail. DH is right next to the security entrance and resort guests have their own line. Although, last time we were there they didn't check.

Um, definitely the Disneyland Hotel! As others have said, that is a FANTASTIC rate! I have stayed there 3 times now, most recently in early July and found their service to be wonderful. The first room we received smelled heavily of smoke and they were able to find another room for us quickly. The pools are wonderful, make sure to order drinks from Trader Sam's (my fav is the mosquito mojito) and grab a Dole Whip from the Coffiee House, right next to the pool area. The walk through DTD is not a big deal, especially in the mornings, but it can feel like a long walk at the end of the day. However, it is millions of times better than Hyatt House, which is about a 15min walk down Harbor. I stayed there earlier this year as well and while it was a nice, new hotel with an adequate breakfast, I didn't like that walk at all. Have fun!!

Disneyland Hotel......NO QUESTION!!!! as a travel agent, you should know that "reviews" are not all reliable......many reasons people write bad reviews including higher expectations, perceived slights or whatever.... AND proximity to the parks.....??? Disneyland Hotel is closer and more convenient to the parks and DTD.

I'd take DLH for that rate difference. For us, we booked at Hyatt House for $150/night. Even with the discount, DLH was still around $340/night for a standard room. So for us, sticking with Hyatt House was a no brainer. That's an incredible rate for DLH!

For $50 a night you will get to stay in the Disney bubble, You will get early entry everyday of your stay (alternating parks) the early entry is amazing for DCA since it's only for resort guest.

DLH is not as close as the GC but really is still just a short walk..and best of all you don't have to walk by drunk/high homeless people sleeping on benches ..this is especially true if you stay until closing.

As for Hyatt House, those should never go for $250 talk about over priced.

No question DLH. I would also note that we have never had poor service at the DLH and have stayed there every year for the last 8 years. Our last stay there was just 2 weeks ago. Being that your Dis name starts with WDW, I am guessing that you are primarily a WDW person? Anyone that says it is not that convenient to walk to the parks from DLH is not a WDW person. By WDW standards, it is an extremely convenient walk to the parks. To give you an idea, the walk from DLH to the plaza between the DLR and CA gates is just slightly longer than the walk from Yacht Club to EPCOT's international gateway at DLH, and significantly shorter than if you were walking from Yacht Club to DHS. The walk from the Swan or Dolphin to Epcot is longer than the walk from DLH to the DL/CA park gates. The parks are a short nice walk through DTD away from the DLH. You stay entirely in the Disney bubble by staying at DLH. Also, in the past year, they have moved security to the edge of DTD- so you go through security right as you leave the DLH property to get into DTD and then you do not have to go through again to get into either park. At least two weeks ago, we never had a big line to get through that security checkpoint. It was much shorter than the lines in the past when everyone filtered through security at the outskirts of the plaza between parks and there was no security for DTD. I can't speak to this year, but we stayed on a non-Disney hotel on the Harbor side for a one night last year as we wound up having to come in a day early (due to storms) and the DLH was full, and we were in line for security for half an hour coming in that side, and it wasn't even at park opening. If you don't want to walk, you can stop and take the monorail to DL-but be aware that the monorail stops are in DTD and in Tommorowland only. So, you don't want to do that to go to CA, and you don't want to do that if you want to start with a walk down Main Street and look at the castle. Your decision seems like a no brainer to me-- DLH all the way.

Follow question: what if I decide to stay at disneyland hotel but not buy tickets on the reservation and instead buy tickets from a different vendor- do we still get magic morning?

If you stay onsite, you get an early entry each day. The parks alternate, so you'd have early entry for DL one day and then DCA the next. This is the best perk of staying in one of the Disney hotels.

I didn't realize DH guests have their own security line! Where is it?

There is rarely much of a wait at any of the security lines by the DLH. We stay at the DLH frequently, and have always had fantastic service.

DLH security is the line furthest to the left.

Yes. It does not matter from whom you've purchased your tickets.
