ABCs of a Nursing School Grad Trip + FL Keys Mini Report;D is for: Dang! Last Chapter of this TR...

Tate certainly got around! I enjoyed his little escapades through a ride that I will rarely get on as I hate getting wet! Sure seems like he was having fun with the CMs, but he should definitely be scolded for his flagrant use of your charging privileges! Does he think you're made of money?

Tate's da man!

As you know, I don't LOVE getting wet either, but the kids always want to go on Splash, so I do. But I"m a major wuss and wear a poncho. Didn't prevent me from getting doused in the face and getting Disney IBS.

Charging privvies?? Yes, he probably took lessons from my kids who, if you remember, figured that out really quickly and bought $20 worth of fudge in AK on our first day. Dorks.

Glad that he was able to catch up with you at Trader Sams for some much needed libations. I'm going to have to find that back patio sometime, we always sit inside and sometimes it's nice to enjoy the balmy Florida air!

He was great company there! ;) I liked the patio, but I think I'd like it better at dusk or dark with the tiki torches lit. It's shaded and the waterfall makes it very peaceful and Zen-ish.

I see that I never commented here about your trip to Africa. That's great that you can get so much time off work to do these sorts of things, and that should be great to work in two trips that are very meaningful to you right around the holidays! I don't know how you do it, I can hardly take care of my kitties, much less go to a country where people are in such need of things like medication and care. I guess that's why you became a nurse! :goodvibes

They ARE both meaningful to me and I"m happy that I was able to make them both happen. All the details, including dates are being worked out, as are all the details regarding the medications, supplies, etc... Little by little. :)

I am able to go, others are capable of giving or praying, or encouraging me, or helping in other ways. :)

Yes, my mind is very impressive. Wait, what are we talking about again?

Heck if I know! LOL!

Really, I think this applies to all of us. If it's free, it's for me!

:rolleyes1

Really, that's all that matters. And a great friend is really just someone who will laugh at all of your jokes.

Yes, for sure. Although most of mine just get blank stares.

Thankfully, the grammar police ain't here reading and correcting and stuff and filling in punctuation and the like and stuff.

It would take all the fun out of it. ;)

I feel like "Spudly Debauchery" is a phrase that should take on a life of its own here.

Then brace yourself for November's TR.

Someone should tell those guys it's about to rain.

:rotfl:

Please post coordinates for this location. Uh, for my friends.

2nd star to the right, and straight on til morning.

I think this is my cue.

That one just never gets old.

Love the colors in this one.

Thanks. I was pretty pleased with that one myself.

I'll be here all week.

Excellent news! I'm so glad you're getting the opportunity!

Details coming together.... slooooowly. :)

Poor Tate! I guess that means another trip for him!

Yes, I think it does!

Your African adventure sounds like such a wonderful way to serve! I'm really excited for you. I hope it all comes together for you!

Thanks, Tammie! :) You saw the ins and outs of my time in Crapistan (we've been friends for a long time!) and this is a fun new adventure for me. :)

Gorgeous photos! A week of camping is a few days longer than we've ever done. I hope you can get some good sleep now that you are back home!

And that s'more looks just perfect...

Thans, Irene! Taking photos is about the only thing I love about camping anymore. My old, decrepit back and neck just can't handle that anymore without losing a crapton of sleep.

The older I get the more my thoughts turn to the pain of camping and not the fun. My body can't take what it could take in my 20s.

You did get some lovely pictures.

Congrats on going up. How was it?

I hear ya!!! So get it!

It was exhilarating, but HARD!!! I had a real challenge keeping the silly aircraft at straight and level flight!! I'm sure it gets easier with time, but it was a lot harder than I thought.

Isn't that the best! I've worked places where I would literally get sick every morning before going in, and places where nobody seems to like/trust anybody. But now I'm in a good place that's friendly and flexible. Haven't felt the need to take a "sick (of work) day" in the 5 years I've been here. :thumbsup2

It makes a huge difference in job satisfaction when you have co-workers that get along!

I've seen that same look on the face of my children over the years :scratchin

:lmao: The look of utter despair.

And congratulations on your Africa adventures!!

Thanks! More details coming as they get worked out. :)

Sounds like you've been very busy! That S'more looks really good! I want one!

I laughed because we have that same camping table, but the closest we get to camping is the Hollywood Bowl!

I have been... too busy. Kinda have a bit more than I can chew right now, and some other stressful things going on as well. But things will all come together as they will.

Mmm s'mores. But I can only eat one. Just too rich and sweet after that.

I call that table my camping Happy Hour Table. It's perfect for a cheese plate or charcuterie and a glass of wine.

Yum!!! The fiance and I actually ate s'mores for breakfast this past weekend. The fire was there. The marshmallows were there. The groceries were starting to dry up. It all just kind of came together. No shame.

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

That's awesome!!! We had milkshakes for lunch one day camping with no shame or regrets. Junk meals FTW!!!

You have a seriously busy life! How you manage to have time for it all and even this DIS is beyond me lol!! Your pics are awesome. I love the chipmunk closeup especially!!! And yay for getting up in the air!!

*****Apologies to those of you who also are friends with me on FB. If you are, just skip this, ok?******

A long-standing dream is about to come true for me. I received official word that I will be going to W. Africa in late November (exact dates still being worked out) to provide medical care and health education. I have worked long and hard to get the skills to provide practical, much needed community development and health care to a place I've dreamed of going for many years. I am looking for partners who will stand behind me in financial aid and prayer.

Here are the details as I know them: (Having been given permission, I can now share them.)

My daughter, Rebekah Marie Sauble, our team leader who is from there, my aunt, and possibly 1 or 2 others will be traveling together to Sierra Leone for an 8-10 day trip. We will work directly with a local physician and healthcare providers who will assist us in providing a vaccination clinic to a village, build relationships and do needs assessment for future trips, and provide healthcare teaching on topics such as maternal/pregnancy health, waterborne illness, and disease prevention. In addition to this, we will be bringing eye and ear drops, skin infection medications, and other basic medications.

Sierra Leone's national economy was all but wiped out as a result of the last Ebola Crisis in 2014. They are literally having to re-build and the needs are great to say the least. We are but a small piece of providing hope and health to a country that struggles with AIDS, basic medical needs, comprehensive economic poverty, and the ever-present threat of the return of Ebola.

We will be traveling with trusted people from that country and staying in a small, local hostel, spending our days among the people gathering data for future endeavors. I anticipate long days and hard work, but nothing worth doing is easy.

We are told that the trip will cost about $2,000 which includes travel, visas, room and board, and incidentals. I am committed to matching dollar for dollar up to $2,000 for purchasing the vaccinations, medications, and other medical supplies we will be taking. If 20 people give $100 that does it. I have great faith that this is something God wants to see happen, and I am inviting you to be part of it with me. If you feel called to give or pray, please PM me for details on how to give or if you just have questions. I have thought about setting up a GoFund Me, but want to see how God will provide without one first. I am excited beyond words!!

ETA: Any financial support in excess of the $2,000 will go directly towards supplies (needles, gloves, alcohol wipes, etc... for the clinic.)

You have a seriously busy life! How you manage to have time for it all and even this DIS is beyond me lol!! Your pics are awesome. I love the chipmunk closeup especially!!! And yay for getting up in the air!!

Hey Kathy! :)

Yes, at the moment it is actually a bit more than is good. Juggling it all is hard. Flight school will be over in a few weeks, and I"m in no hurry to license.

Watching the chipmunks was fun this trip. I"m usually a macro gal and love to photograph flowers and landscapes, but the flowers were all bloomed out this trip. I'm glad I had my long lens this time!

SO excited for you and your trip! What incredible things God will do through your team...I have no doubt! How amazing that you're seeing this dream of yours come to fruition. I'm not in a place to give financially right now, but I will be praying for your fundraising and thinking of you and your team for the next few months!

On the bright side, I did get to finally get myself up in the air:

Saw that on FB.
That's great!

Got some time to study a bit:

Camping and studying....

The two should not go together.

Took a few decent photos (more of which can be found on my FB Page- Lincoln Landing Photography):

Saw those.
:worship:

You got some really nice ones!

And ate some pretty good food:

:faint:

I'd love to see pix if and when you add things.

If I get it done... If I remember!

I certainly will! Double gloving! :)

Two gloves will stop a needle??

Any future trips will be fully funded and paid through the proposal we have outstanding that we haven't heard back yet about. The world of multi-million $ proposals is complicated and takes time.

I can imagine!

I will PM you! And thank you! I've already got $200 committed in just an hour. :)

Nice!

I just do what I can. I have the skills, I have the time. What I don't have is an excuse NOT to go.

Sure you do. But you won't use them.

Using Up our Last Days in Royal Ways

Day came early. It always does when in Disney. So much to do, so little time! Especially if there is relaxing and lounging to be done. Especially then. And especially if one happens to be royalty. Like me.

Well, at least I am while at Disney. And around here too, so that's Your Highness to you.

And you too!

Ok, fine, I’m a royal pain in the you know whatty. Take it or leave it.

Our days were winding down with only 2 full days left at this point. Sure, I realize this TR was unconventional and did not go in chronological order, but that’s how I roll, and I’m Queen around here, so that’s how it went. But for the sake of finishing this baby up, (6 more updates! Yes, yes, I know you couldn’t be more thrilled…) I’m gonna take this update (which could be a two-parter just because I can) as a day in and of itself.

Day 9 of a 10-day trip.

So, what does one do when they are staying Concierge Level at AK?

Laundry, duh.

Did you miss the “We’re on our 9th day” part? I mean, yes, I did actually go commando this trip, (ONCE People! ONCE!) because a girl has to have clean socks. Yeah, yeah, clean underwear are pretty nice too. Remember, one pair may or may not have become soiled when I lost my phone on Test Track. Another probably saw a similar fate when I practically wet myself when Anara pantsed herself in the Coral Reef.

But laundry comes AFTER coffee and breakfast. I’d been wanting for quite some time to try the African-inspired foodstuffs at the Mara, so we went down there and got these:

IMG_2918.jpg

IMG_2919.jpg

Yes, it was delicious. Yes, it fed 3 people.

“But what about the FREE food in the CL Lounge??!!”, you may be asking yourself. Keep your shorts on; I’m getting to that.

Ladies and Gentlemen, The Mara may have pretty good food, but good coffee they do not! So after a pretty leisurely brekkie, whilst sitting in my Royal Vacation Place Gardens, we headed back to the room to gather up our unmentionables and other items we’d need for the 2nd leg of our vacation.

(How many of you forgot I still have a FL Keys vacation to Report on?)

Precisely 38 miles down the hall, give or take 36 miles, we found the laundry room and started our schtuff. Then hiked aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal the way back to the Concierge Lounge.

A) Because we are firm believers in 2nd Breakfasts when the getting’s good. Or free. This was both.

and,

B) Because we had a suitcase to be picked up. You know, the one that Disney was replacing. And Southwest re-broke. Of which I had to then replace for my neighbors. Mhm, that one.

After sashaying in like we owned the place, <“Excuse me, you seem to be encroaching on my table and are taking far too long at my espresso machine. Yes, thank you, if you could just step over there while I adjust my tiara a bit and fix my latte foam….”> we grabbed a fresh newspaper, coffee, some pastries and fruit, and hogged a table for about 40 minutes. Satisfied with the new suitcase, and now feeling so full we came close to needing an Emergency Room, we waddled aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal the way back to the laundry room to make the switch. Can you guess what we did next?

You, Dear Reader are very, very smart! We went back to the room and balcony-lounged seeing the usual view as we went:

IMG_2920.jpg

Yes, with another cup of coffee of course! Awww, LOOK! The Royal Animals are making an appearance and are also hungry for a bit o’ brekkie. No, the view never gets old.

IMG_2930.jpg

Soon, there was a knock on the door. <Knock, knock!>

Nope, not Mousekeeping.

Nope, not the suitcase; we had that.

Yep, a DVC Team Member. They were there to give us a free print as a momento of our stay. "No, we’re not buying in to DVC, but thank you."

IMG_2935.jpg

FullSizeRender.jpg

Cute, no? I thought it odd it was of the Poly Villas, and not something more Kidani-ish. Somewhere along the line we were also given some delicious choco.

The choco is gone; the print is still sitting in a pile of crap under my bed. No, not that kind. The clutter kind of papery-stacks-of-junk crap.

Since I now had a functional suitcase back in my possession, it was also time to re-pack and get situated and ready to travel again. And I’m just gonna say it, that felt GOOD! Royalty isn’t accustomed to having the entirety of their belongings heaped on a closet floor. Back down the hall, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal the way one more time, we got our mostly dry clothes <insert mild grumble of irritation here for only mostly dry clothes>, got everything all packed and ready to head out to a park.... finally. It was noon nearly on the dot. How’s that for a pretty leisurely morning?

I have no idea how long we waited for my Royal Footman to show up (I really need to either behead him or offer him more pay- still deciding on whether to be more tyrannical or to promote capitalism and productivity through wage incentive) but do know that we waited. We always waited. With no exception. Ever.

With due fanfare and revelry from the subjects, my entourage and I were welcomed back to the Kingdom of Magic. I couldn’t tell, but some may have cowered in fear. Others looked as if they may have broken out in a sweat at the sight of me. Then again, perhaps it was because the fact that it was 900 degrees out with 90% humidity. Hard to tell. The plan was to meet up with some our favorite foreign dignitaries who happened to live in the Carolinas. Pretty much as foreign as you can get from the native PNW lands of your Royal Highness. Sir Marv and Lady Pat provided perfectly wonderful company for the remainder of our afternoon and we all enjoyed our time spent together!

After strolling the red carpet along Main Street, we turned left and spent some time in Adventureland… having adventures. Pirate Adventures to be exact. Plenty of drunken, hoarding, plundering debauchery was enjoyed.

IMG_3005.jpg

IMG_3006.jpg

IMG_3009.jpg

(Random question: how many times does the PoTC dog, who's apparently named "Poochie", appear in the ride. Photographical evidence suggests at least twice!)

IMG_3016.jpg

As your queen reviews the photographs, it is obvious that a campaign against human trafficking needs to be given serious thought. And clearly, the royal treasury needs to be fortified and more heavily guarded. Somehow a dude with personal hygiene and disturbing dental cleanliness issues has sneaked in.

With piracy on our minds, the
little royal minions were dubbed honorary pirates and given a couple of pretty cool, free souvenir maps.

Did I mention that they were free?

Let me repeat that: These were free Disney souvenirs. Run, do not walk to play this game. It’s fun! Parents and kids alike will have a great time hunting for the hidden treasure and clues and special effects. Hey, Guys, I read in the fine print that you get the Redhead as booty.

Haha, made ya look!

Just kidding, but it is a no-brainer that a proper treasure to be plundered is from here:

IMG_3025.jpg

So, the Queen swiped her diamond studded (I wish!) Magicband and magically paid for this.

IMG_3026_2.jpg

That’s how it works. You tap, you pay. And the money magically comes out of the royal coffers. It’s called coffers because one generally gets choked up when they open their statement following a Disney vacation. After this, some random touring happened. And some fantastical botched touring happened as well.

I call this parade, and every other 3:00 parade, the Royal PITA Parade. Ridiculous amounts of lost park time is amassed when you mis-time a ride exit and want to do… well, anything else. Hence, the reason I got this pretty okay photo, but also the reason no less than 4 fewer rides/attractions were seen.

IMG_3037.jpg

We flitted here and there, with one stop being a foray into here…

IMG_2963.jpg

IMG_2965.jpg

IMG_2966.jpg

Sir Marv said we must. No, we didn’t get a cinnamon roll. Yes, they are delicious. If you have not tried one, take a friend and split. Your arteries, waistline, and blood sugar levels will all thank you. #asbigasyourface We didn’t because we were headed here:

The Queen must eat. And what better place to be a guest than the very place where they ask you to. (Be their guest, of course.)

IMG_2942.jpg

IMG_2955.jpg

IMG_2957.jpg

IMG_2946.jpg

IMG_2945.jpg

No, the gray stuff wasn’t delicious. It was meh, and the Queen is contemplating making all the silver into Boho jewelry to sell at a local art fair. The other stuff we got was okay, but then again none in the Queen’s party ordered the French Onion Soup either. I CAN tell you the Quiche was okay, the sandwiches were sandwiches, and the Cokes were refreshing. Other than that, I don’t remember much except that QS, which in this case does NOT stand for Quick Service (because it was not), but for Queen Steppe, sucks at dark anything photography when under pressure. Dark photog takes time, a commodity of which there is precious little in Disney. Unless one is by him or herself or with someone very patient. Neither of which was the case on this particular day.

IMG_2950.jpg

Every queen needs a throne, no?

IMG_2962_1.jpg

On the way out, a random photo...

IMG_2967.jpg

Or two:

IMG_2968.jpg

Next, yours truly had a very important diplomatic meeting. With this Lady of the Sea. Lady can be interchanged with Witch as you see fit.

IMG_2976.jpg

I told her I’d trade a snotty little mermaid for her really cool eel pets. I was impressed with how they obeyed her pretty quickly- something that’s somewhat of a novelty in the royal household lately. As you can see, Ariel is quickly given legs, something of which my kids have forgotten they have this summer. Hands may be an equally forgotten commodity when the Royal Gardens, dishes, room cleaning or anything else that closely resembles work comes up for discussion. As you can also see, she is perfectly reposed. Again, much like my teens at 10:00 on any given summer morning.

IMG_2977.jpg

Eventually, the subjects stepped aside to allow your humble monarch to ride this:

IMG_3090.jpg

(By the look on her face, she must have just opened up her own credit card statement after staying on a Disney property.)

She was serenaded with amusing tunes,
IMG_3093.jpg

And left to wonder just what it was the Madame Leota, her most devoted clairvoyant, saw day after day.

IMG_3079.jpg

IMG_3078.jpg

Probably more than a few idiots who took flash photos of her and her deadbeat pals, a few lovers making out, and on the rare occasion someone trying to get away with disposing the remains of their loved one in the graveyard. (Don't believe me? Google it. I dare you.)

(I'll bet it's a thousand times creepier now for you.)

Too soon after a grand tea party on the Puke Cups it was time to say good bye to Sir Marv and Lady Pat.

IMG_3058.jpg

Never fear, Fine Subject of the Realm, they were to be seen the next day of which you’ve already heard tell- at The Ditch where wondrous merriment was found, if not complete, ridiculous fun.

And thus endeth a day of leisurely beginnings with an afternoon of fun sandwiched between a nice dinner to follow… which I’ll tell you about in the next update….when your queen is not trying to do way too many other things.

I'm so excited for your trip to Sierra Leone...sounds just incredible. Not only to go there but to be able to really do something helpful for the country and its people. Just wow.

As for the TR, loving it as always! You reminded me that the Dole Whip must happen on our upcoming trip. Have to try one this time!!

That is a bit odd about your CL souvenier, I guess that was all they had? It was cute of course though!

I do look forward to hearing out your time in the keys...it's so pretty down there!

What a nice gift that they obviously gave you with no strings attached and zero expectation from you! :P The chocolate looks neat though. And the print was pretty...if a bit poorly themed.

I'd like to try this sometime! I heard all about how it's a wonderful hidden gem from another trip report recently! It may not happen in the heat of August, but on another trip sometime for sure.

"A [lovely] photo." This is one of my favourite areas in WDW! So pretty!

I am very excited to see what God can do through us. :) Found out a lot more information today, and we're still moving forward. Thank you for the encouragement in the fundraising. Slowly, but surely we'll get there and lives will be saved and blessed!

One step closer.

And a few more steps closer after today.

Sounds exciting! I know you can do it.

I'll do my very best. That's all I have.

She is NOT a happy camper.

No. While I like the smell of the pines and wood fire, I do not like a trashed back and neck, no shower, and little sleep.

Chocolate porter, eh? Sounds interesting.

I"m NOT a beer person. At all, but Mike got one at dinner one night, and Mikki thought it was tolerable, as did I. So I got one for the 3 of us to split.

Saw that on FB.
That's great!

One step at a time! And a lot of $$ at a time.

Camping and studying....

The two should not go together.

No other time to!

Saw those.
:worship:

You got some really nice ones!

Thank you, O Master of fine photography!

If I get it done... If I remember!

I can always haran...er... remind you.

Two gloves will stop a needle??

I'll take these odds. Short answer: mostly.

Sure you do. But you won't use them.

You're right.

I'm so excited for your trip to Sierra Leone...sounds just incredible. Not only to go there but to be able to really do something helpful for the country and its people. Just wow.

Things are definitely coming together! Super excited at what we will be able to accomplish through the generosity of so many others. :)

As for the TR, loving it as always! You reminded me that the Dole Whip must happen on our upcoming trip. Have to try one this time!!

Thanks, Kathy!! Yes, Dole Whips must happen. Tastiness in a cup... if you like pineapple.

That is a bit odd about your CL souvenier, I guess that was all they had? It was cute of course though!

Maybe...? I just don't know? Maybe they needed to boost their point sales of that resort instead?

I do look forward to hearing out your time in the keys...it's so pretty down there!

Keys will be coming up... at some point.

Amen! And never enough sleep in Disney...but it always feels like such a waste of time.

I know! I guess that's why I'm typically awake and up by 7:30 or 8:00 regardless of the BFP (Big Fat Plan) for the day.

This looks delicious!! First breakfast? Check!

Would it surprise you we had Elevensies, Lunch and 2nd Lunch as well?

What a nice gift that they obviously gave you with no strings attached and zero expectation from you! :P The chocolate looks neat though. And the print was pretty...if a bit poorly themed.

It was probably wasted on us. We'll never buy into DVC as there are so many other places to visit and travel. I know I"m bordering on heresy around here by saying that, but well, I can only see myself going once a year or so and want to see other areas of our great, big beautiful world. EPCOT's great, but the places represented there are even better.

I'd like to try this sometime! I heard all about how it's a wonderful hidden gem from another trip report recently! It may not happen in the heat of August, but on another trip sometime for sure.

It was really a fun way to spend a couple of hours. And we only did 2 maps. Get's you to see the park's details you might ordinarily pass up, I think.

A truer statement has never been made.

Credit card statements rarely tell us good news.

"A [lovely] photo." This is one of my favourite areas in WDW! So pretty!

Thanks! I LOVE this area too. I love the colors they used and the open layout of it.

Trying to keep up as usual. That is a cute little print of the Poly bungalows. Kind of interesting to get a DVC offering at AKL CL but I guess they plant the seed whenever they can.

Tate can sure party hard when he is in the world.

We had such a blast with you celebrating this trip. We will be back in October and unless we win the lottery are not planning on being down in November.

Yay for flying and Africa- dreams come true!!!

Well, then we're in the same boat. XP

I suppose they do. Sales are king.

Tate can sure party hard when he is in the world.

Why yes, he can!

October is a nice month to visit- not too hot, not too cold. And yet... I will miss you. Hopefully again soon!

Yay for flying and Africa- dreams come true!!!

Fantastic picture of the Redhead on POC - I am currently making warning statements to DH of "When I go back to Disney...." Ankle is improving (one specialist says surgery, one specialist says orthotics), budget is not now that there is a wedding of DD24 being planned. Seriously, when do the children let their parents start being the kids?

Thanks. I had VERY little success this trip on ANY dark ride photos- despite a brand new lens I had bought specifically FOR that :sad2:.

Yes, I had to start "warning" statements quite a while ago for my trip in November. :stir:

I'll be interested to hear what you end up with- the surgery or the orthotics. Usually, you start conservative and progress from there. Let me know!

Awww, a wedding! Fun and congrats. :yay:

As for parents and kids?? I have yet to find this out for myself. LOL!
