A Trip Around The World + An 11-Night Fantasy Trip to Paradise! June 14-28, 2017! *COMPLETED 8/24*

glad to see you back and very much looking forward to hearing about your cruise - I had seen the itinerary and it looked really cool and very interesting

Sounds like you have this down as far as what you need to do when you get on board - we have our first cruise booked and I am feeling a bit intimidated about what I need to do beforehand vs what you can only do once on board as far as booking things, etc. Also trying to figure out what night we want to do Palo - long story short, i might be PMing you some questions ;)

@TheMaxRebo …You might recognize some of my magnets.
Love the door - love that you added some of the sports teams you like ... though obviously the DIS 20th magnets are the best ;) (good thought though, i should make some for our cruise)

Both your meals look good! I don't think you mentioned in your update your thoughts on the food at Enchanted garden, but it looked really good!

You time in the spa sounds really nice (I am not a huge massage person but I have found that hot stone massages are probably the type I like the best). My wife is definitely looking forward to spending some time in the rainforest room!

When I get to Pirate Night dinner, you might figure out your answer on when I would eat at Palo lol.

What ship are you going on? I only know of the Fantasy having the jacuzzis, but I'm assuming it will be the same on the Dream. I don't know if the Wonder has it. I didn't discover the Rainforest room until I went on the Fantasy last summer and then I got it on the Magic last December.

Glad to see you enjoyed me using your design for some of my magnets. :D I might see if you can make a design for me, because I really don't know how to do any of that type of stuff lol.

You are right. I didn't add what I thought of the meal. Sorry! I will add that to the report. Some things skip your mind when you are writing 11+ of these lol. I did think that meal was very good. Definitely one of the best Enchanted Garden meals I have had. That's kinda why I was saying I actually had a better experience than normal.

Feel free to message me any questions.

What a great Disney vacation you had planned out! I would love to take a Disney cruise with my daughter to enjoy some adult time. I was sad when Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular left Disney's California Adventure Park - I haven't yet seen the Frozen act yet.

That was great that you got one of the rare booths in Enchanted Garden! The ending of your 1st sea day sounded perfect - nice and relaxing enjoying the ship :)
Yes. It is usually peaceful in that part of the ship at night. Anywhere else on our cruise, kids seemed to be free-roaming the ship and running around. There were fewer kids on this cruise than normal, but when it got towards the evening, you definitely noticed them.

Great updates! I like reliving the cruise. And, it is even nice to read about and see some things I missed. Just have to catch them next time!
The beautiful thing of cruising. You can do as much or little as you want and each person is different.

Don't usually read trip reports (although I sometimes drool over dining ones!) LOL, but I recognized you from your excellent job organizing unofficial stuff during the 20th, so was curious, and I'm really enjoying this, especially now that you're on the ship. I've only done 2 cruises myself - 1 a 3-night on the Disney Magic to Nassau/Castaway Cay, and 1 7-night to the NE/Canada on the Norwegian Dawn. You and Dad looked FAB dressed up for formal night!!

Thanks for joining in Heidi! Sadly, I didn't decide to do a trip report for the 20th. I figured there would be many going out for that. Since this was such a rare cruise for the Fantasy, I decided it could be a good idea for me to do one for this trip. Hopefully I will get to meet you one day! :)

Found your TR earlier today and am now caught up. Really enjoying it so far. Loved the WDW part, Awesome how many times you were able to get on FOP!

Looking forward to the rest of the cruise! I love cruises and have been on quite (I think it is 11) a few but sadly, no DCL cruises yet. They are on my list though.

Thanks for joining in! Glad you are enjoying it!

After experiencing two cruise lines, it is now really hard for me to think of leaving DCL. I really like service, and Disney does it the best by far. The price is definitely more expensive than any other cruise line, but you are paying for great service. For my Dad and I, we find that worth the price.

We are booked on the 6/30/18 Southern - enjoying your trip report very much!

We feel the same about the service (and the food). Very important to us when vacationing and DCL gets it right almost every time. Eventually my husband and I will try other lines but our daughter (13) would rather go on a Disney cruise than go to Disney World!

Thanks for joining in! After looking at your itinerary, I think it is the same except you go to San Juan, Puerto Rico instead of Tortola. If you keep reading my report, I think I would enjoy your itinerary more for that reason. I wasn't a big fan of Tortola, but I'll get into that later.

So we are on the Wonder - which I believe Senses was completely re-done when it had the recent dry dock. Main thing my wife is interested in is aromatherapy steam showers or something like that

Happy to help out with any designs as you need!

The Wonder is a great ship. I think I really enjoyed the overlook lounge/bar area on that ship the best. It's the only ship I think that has it. It also has the Frozen Musical on there, and I would be interested to see who they did that for the cruise ship. I'm not a big fan of the version at DCA (still bitter about Aladdin leaving).

I have not been on it since the dry dock though, so I don't know what has changed.

Day 6: Another Day at Sea!

Welcome to the 2nd sea day of this fabulous 11-Night sailing aboard the Disney Fantasy!

Here is the Navigator for the 2nd Sea Day of our cruise:

This morning started out interesting by heading up to Cabana’s and eating breakfast. Ok. That isn’t really interesting, but someone has to eat right? i was on a cruise!

However, what was interesting after that was I went to a Hypnosis Seminar with Ricky Kalmon in the Buena Vista Theater. This was for adults only and it was quite interesting. He taught us how to use hypnosis techniques to help with stress/depression. It was very relaxing when he finally tried it on us, but I am one where I think hypnosis is kinda strange. There was really nothing going on in the morning, so I decided to give that a try.

Right after that, it was time to get my picture with the star of the show the previous evening, Aladdin!

Now, what is one of the best traditions on Disney Cruise Line that I think is just strange, but I find it amusing anyways? That would be Jack-Jack’s Incredible Diaper Dash! Yes, on Disney Cruise Line, they race babies on each cruise! This can either be really good or it can be really bad. It all depends on the amount of babies that are there. I’ve seen it go on for several rounds and other times have only seen one race. On this particular cruise, they changed it a little. They had one race for babies that are already walking, and one race for the crawlers. Only four babies participated on this cruise, but it is always still a great thing to view since everyone starts cheering for babies as if you were at a sporting event.

The surprise event of the day that was announced to us the previous evening was happening next. Since this was a special sailing for the Disney Fantasy, we definitely got some added bonuses throughout this cruise. This one is probably one of the special events I enjoyed the most. That is Supervising Animator for Cars 3, Bobby Podesta, was on our sailing and he would be giving 3 different panels. His first talk was on this day called The Making of Cars 3. He gave us some special behind the scenes images/video, and talked about the process of developing many of the
scene from the movie. It was really amazing. When he was finished with his talk, he did a Q&A for those of us in the audience.

After the Q&A , it was finally time to see Cars 3 for the first time on this cruise. I thought the movie was really good, and definitely loved the emphasis of what Doc Hudson meant to Lightning McQueen in this film.

Right after Cars 3, it was time for the first ESPN Draft Day - Baseball of the cruise! I didn’t win. Would I win later in the cruise? Just wait and see.

After ESPN Draft Day, I went up to the Rainforest Room before it was time for dinner.

On this particular evening, we were in Royal Court. I find this dining room to be elegant, but based on where we were sitting, we could hear the music inside the room and the music playing in the lobby. This was definitely bothering me since I’m a musician.

I would end up ordered the Potage Parmentier (Leek and Potato Soup) and the Salmon. This meal was good, but it wasn’t my favorite. I would eat most of it which actually made me full. I had a pretty late snack on the deck 11 which made me not as hungry as I should have been.

*WARNING WARNING* Since I was full, I decided not to get dessert. Now, I didn’t get dessert every night, because I really am not a fan of eating dessert. Lets just say, on this particular evening, I learned my lesson. When asked what I wanted, I proceeded to say, “I want nothing for dessert.” Our waiter said, “You want nothing? Really?” I said, “Yep.” Well, I proceeded to get “Nothing” for dessert. I still didn’t eat it, but I laughed for quite a while after that, and I also joked about it for the rest of the cruise. Our waiters were amazing on this cruise. I’ll talk more about them later on in my trip report.

After dinner, it was time for the first of three shows for the evening. First was a comedy show with Wayne Cotter. This show was for adults only, and he was absolutely hilarious!

The next show was with arguably my favorite variety show act on Disney Cruise Line. That was with John Charles. He is absolutely amazing! I could listen to him pick a song out of the air suddenly all night if he would keep going on. He has a great talent, and he puts on an incredible show since it is just him and a guitar.

Then after that show, it was time to see the hypnotist, Ricky Kalmon in action in his adult only show. I don’t remember the last time I laughed so hard. He put on an incredible show, but thank you to the people on this cruise who volunteered that made this particular show so funny.

We got a swan as our towel animal!

Bed time! We would finally find land in Aruba the next day!

Day 7: Welcome to Aruba! - Part 1!

We have finally found land and we were in Aruba!!!

Here is the Navigator for the day we were in Aruba:

Our day in Aruba started bright and early for me. I’m always someone who likes to get up early and watch the ship sail into each port. So, I am usually awake about 90-120 minutes before all-ashore time. The arrival into Aruba was definitely unique and probably the best sail-in of the whole cruise. Disney had not been to Aruba in a very long time, and we were greeted that way. We were greeted by two fireboats shooting water into the air and sounding their horn all the way until we docked. This is actually a tradition when new ships enter a new port. The Fantasy did not get this welcome when entering Barbados, Martinique, and St. Kitts for the first time, and a lot of us that watched the ship sail in each morning wondered why. So, if anyone knows why, please let me know.

Since it had been raining, we saw a rainbow right after we docked!

We made it off the ship for the first time in 2 1/2 days.

My Dad and I had an excursion booked in Aruba. The excursion we had was the Best of Aruba and Beach Tour. This was a great way to see Aruba and go around the island. If you ever travel to Aruba, be aware that they CHARGE to use the restrooms. That was rather interesting.

We would end up stopping at Casibari Rock first on our excursion. This was an interesting place since it is a rock formation that we were able to climb to the top. The top offered great views of the island. If you decide to take this excursion, please be advised that the steps climbing to the top and back to the bottom of the rock formation are not that great. This was also the only location I saw where the restrooms were free.

Our next stop was a special stop where we got to take pictures of the ocean crashing along the shore.

My Dad and I on the tour. Normally, I would wear a hat, but it was so windy on this day that I took it off at this particular stop. That is because we saw someone get off another bus, and his hat immediately flew off his head and went about 30 feet.

After a quick stop, we made our way to the Natural Bridge. This was interesting, but I didn’t want to stay very long since it was similar to our previous stop. The only difference was a piece of land that formed a bridge. I was actually expecting it to be bigger. It was cool, but I spent most of my time in the shop without buying anything.

Would you like to talk like a local from Aruba, here are a few words that you can learn:

Our tour company:

We then had a 30 minute drive to the California Lighthouse. I found it an interesting place, but I spent most of my time in a restaurant taking pictures of the shore than looking at the lighthouse.

Part 2 of Aruba is continued on the next post!

The hypnotist thing does sound interesting. In grad school we had some company send a professor a bunch of hypnotism tapes to use in therapy for depression. We tried them out in class. It was a series of sounds with certain tones played underneath. It have me a migraine lol.
The Bobby Podesta talk sounds amazing!! That certainly is a magical extra!
Love the dessert! That is really funny!

Day 7: Welcome to Aruba - Part 2!

Welcome to part 2 of my day on Aruba!

*Excursion continued*

We then had a quick 5 minute drive to Arashi Beach where we had 2 hours to relax before heading back to the ship. My thoughts on this beach was that it was just ok. Our driver said it was rated in the top 5 beaches in the Caribbean a couple years ago. I wonder why, because I have been to more than 5 beaches that were better than the one they took us to on Aruba. Maybe it is just personal preference.

It was time for a 40 minute drive back to the ship. This was an interesting drive, because we got to drive by all of the hotels along the shore in Aruba.

When we got back to the ship, my Dad and I decided to go walk around the town and do some shopping. The shopping area here was great, because the cruise ship docked very close to the shopping district it seemed like.

After shopping for a little bit, it was time to head back to the ship where we did some more shopping inside the cruise ship port building.

When we got back onboard, I went up to the top deck to get some pictures.

My thoughts on Aruba…It was a great place to go once. I really don’t want to go back. It was cool to see some of the tourist attractions on the island, but I wish we would have gone to another beach. Also, I didn’t do much research going into the cruise on the different ports. I was surprised to see that Aruba was like a desert. I was not expecting that, and I don’t know if I would want to go to an island with that type of terrain.

Our dinner on this night was back in Animators Palate. This is always a fun night on the cruise, because it is the night where Crush from Finding Nemo visits each section of the dining room. It is very similar to Turtle Talk with Crush at Disney California Adventure and EPCOT. Also, many of the Finding Nemo characters swim around the dining room during dinner as well.

On this night, I had two Baked Potato and Cheddar Cheese soups and the beef (not pictured). The Baked Potato and Cheddar Cheese soup might be my favorite soup on all of the DCL ships. This is one of my favorite meals of any Disney Cruise.

We then had showtime with the Liverpool Legends. They are a Beatles group. In my opinion, they were just ok, but the people who were older than me in the audience seemed to really enjoy it.

After showtime I headed to the Tube to see the Mainstage Cabaret for adults only. This was a performance given by the performers in the Walt Disney Theater. This was one of my favorite shows of the vacation since they sang many of my favorite Disney and Broadway songs. I was happy that one of the performers sang “Santa Fe” from Disney's
Broadway Show, Newsies. That song is probably one of my favorite songs to listen to at the moment.

After the Cabaret, I stayed and watched the game show Snippets which was interesting. They played a bunch of T.V. show theme songs, and everyone had to run and pick up an item if they knew what show it was from. No, the theme from Walt Disney's "World of Color" is not the show Gilligan's Island (Yes, someone said that).

Our towel animal for the evening was a sting ray I believe. if anyone else has some better suggestions, let me know.

Now, it was time for bed.

Yes, that dessert was something else.

Personally, the hypnotist thing made me more tired since it happened at like 10 a.m. I found it to be strange, but it still was relaxing.

Bobby Podesta was amazing. I never saw him around the ship since he said we would probably see him drawing. With my updates that will be posted in a couple days, there is something else he did that was an absolute amazing experience.

Day 8: A Great Day At Sea!

After a day in Aruba, we had a sea day as we headed towards Barbados!

Here is the Navigator for this day at sea:

A bright early morning on a sea day meant it was time for a nice breakfast in Cabana’s. Cabana’s gets crowded the later the morning gets, so if you are an early riser, it is a much better experience.

After breakfast, there was Disney Cruise Line Trivia. However, I lost track of time, so I missed it by 7 minutes. I decided to stay and hear the rest of the questions/answers and later realized that I would have only missed 2 on the list that they had.

When trivia was over, I had time to go to my 2nd ESPN Draft Day Baseball of the cruise. I wasn’t expecting much since I didn’t do well at the first one. However, right before the final round, I was in 5th place. After my last two choices, I ended up jumping all the way to 1st and won my first ever Disney Cruise Line event! I put my luck on changing my Fantasy name at this game to Simba (my favorite Disney character). Lets just say I was a very happy camper since I won a key chain.

My winning team:

Then it was lunch time! My lunch usually ended up being a Spicy Chicken Sandwich or Chicken Tenders on this cruise. I think I only had 1 burger.

After lunch, it was time for one of Bobby Podesta’s (Supervising Animator for Cars 3) presentations. This presentation was called The Animating of Cars 3. This was really cool to see since he went into depth on how PIXAR will animate a scene from the movie and all of the processes it takes just to get the correct scene. I don’t think I realized all of the detail PIXAR puts into their films in terms of animation until this session. The amount of detail whether it comes from lighting, music, sound, or the animation itself is incredible.

Right after the presentation, everyone made their way over to Animators Palate for a very special treat. Bobby Pedesta gave an animating class where we got to learn how to draw Cars 3 characters from a PIXAR animator. Not many people can say they have gotten to draw with a PIXAR animator. I’m not the greatest drawer, but here are my drawings of Lightning McQueen, Mater, Jackson Storm, and Cruz Ramirez:

Lightning McQueen

Mater

Jackson Storm

Cruz Ramirez

I think the best drawing I did was Mater. I really am not the greatest drawer though.

When the animation class was over, I went up to the Rainforest Room until it was time to get ready for dinner.

Next up was dinner. On this evening, our dinner was located in Enchanted Garden. It would be the first time the Disney Fantasy served the following menu:

On the menu, I chose to get the potato croquettes, wedge salad, and pasta with cod fish. The potato croquettes were interesting. I found the wedge salad to just be ok. The main problem I had was with my entree. The pasta that they delivered to me was dry, and that is the main reason why I ordered the pasta. Also, the cod fish did not go well with the pasta at all. I don’t know why the chef decided to put cod with pasta since I have never seen those two served together before. Well, since I didn’t like the entree, I elected to get the chicken instead. I found that to be interesting, but it was definitely better than my previous dish. Also, since I didn’t like the first dish, our waiter gave us an order of mushroom ravioli as well. I didn’t like that very much.

So, after dinner, it was showtime! Tonight would be the 2nd of the 3 Disney broadway style productions on this cruise. That show was Disney Wishes. Now, I want to say this is a good show. I remember I didn’t like it that much when I was on the Fantasy my first time, but the cast was definitely better this time around. So, I enjoyed it a lot more. It’s great that Disney Cruise Line has a show that takes place at Disneyland. Being someone that grew up very close to Disneyland, it was great to see my favorite Disney Theme Park honored in that way.

After that show, all of the adults had an adult variety act in the Tube. We had Charles Peachock on our cruise, and he was a juggler on America’s Got Talent. He has gone father than any juggler in the history of that show. Anyways, I saw him on our cruise in December on the Magic I’m pretty sure. I could be wrong on the cruise, but I know I have seen him recently like John Charles who performed the first couple nights. As I watched Charles Peachock’s show, I began to remember his last show. He did nothing different for his adult show than the show on my previous Disney Cruise that I saw him. So, that kinda become slightly negative towards his show, but I still enjoyed seeing him again.

Then after Charles Peachock, it was time for one of my favorite game shows of the whole cruise…the 80’s Music Challenge! This is a very fun game on every Disney Cruise I have been on. It was also great that the Ghostbusters (our team name) won! :)

Our towel animal for the evening was either a giraffe or one of the long-neck dinosaurs (Can’t remember the name of them). I will let all of you determine what you think it is.

It was time for bed. We would be arriving in Barbados early the next morning.

Day 9: Barbados - Sailing in + Harrison’s Cave!

Welcome to Barbados!

Here is the Navigator for our day in Barbados:

Like Aruba, I got up early to watch us sail into Barbados. First impressions, I didn’t really like where we were docked. It was mainly a cargo ship port where we docked at with a cruise ship shopping area that wasn’t that big.

After sailing in, I went and ate breakfast, and definitely had an interesting view of a shipyard.

When I was done eating, we had a little bit before we met for our excursion (11:30 a.m.). So, I decided to walk around the ship on deck 4.

After walking around the ship, I decided to go ride the Aquaduck for the first time on this cruise. Due to the wind speeds the previous days, they were not allowing single riders, so I was not able to ride until this morning.

Right after riding the Aquaduck, it was time to meet for our excursion in Barbados.

The excursion my Dad and I would be going on is the Harrison’s Cave and Scenic Drive excursion.

We disembarked the ship, and we were on our way to go to Harrison’s Cave!

When we arrived at Harrison’s Cave, we were greeted by wild monkeys right before we went down the elevator.

It was time for us to go into the cave! This tour was really cool. The tour of the cave lasted about 45 minutes, and we were on an electric tram. They stopped in two different locations where we were allowed to walk around. Here are many pictures of our experience inside the cave:

Definitely a highlight of the tour was seeing a waterfall inside the cave. A fun fact about Harrison’s cave is at its lowest point, we were 170 feet below the surface. However, we were not below sea level.

My Dad and I inside the cave:

After a tour of the cave, it was time for a scenic drive back to the ship!

When we got back to the ship, my Dad and I walked through some of the shops they had at the port. We didn’t find much that interested us, so we made our way back to the ship.

More of this day on my next post.

Day 9: Barbados - Back on the ship + Palo!

When I got back on the ship, my Dad and I hadn’t eaten lunch yet, so we decided to get a light snack before dinner. (This was around 3 p.m.).

After lunch, I walked around the ship. When I got into a very quite shopping area since the shops were not open yet (shops can’t be open while a ship is docked in port), there was a friendly character walking through. I got the chance to spend about 5 minutes with Pluto! Literally, no one came by, so Pluto, his guide, and I just started to talk. Pluto wondered what I did in Barbados, so I showed him pictures of the cave I went to. He seemed very excited about that. Well, after spending a few minutes with Pluto, I had to get a picture with him!

Is it just me, or did Pluto make Walt Disney look like he is from a sci-fi movie with his ear?

So, dinner tonight was not in any of the rotational dining rooms. Tonight, my Dad and I had reservations for dinner in Palo!

While sitting at the table, I had a lot of fun taking pictures. We also planned this dinner while the Disney Fantasy was pulling out of Barbados. It was definitely a great dinner while having a great view of our ship sailing away from Barbados.

Picture taken by our server:

At Palo, they give you a “welcome” appetizer plate which has some really good options. I also like the bread (not pictured) that they give. I also got my virgin strawberry daiquiri.

So, for dinner, I ended up getting the fried calamari, and the scallops. Between the appetizer and entree, Palo also gives you a lemon sorbet to wash out your pallet. For dessert, I got the vanilla bean panna cotta. The food was absolutely amazing! The calamari was delicious. I really liked the sauce they gave with it. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The panna cotta was the only thing I didn’t really care for, but I still enjoyed it. It was refreshing.

Palo was definitely the best meal of the cruise. We never ate at Remy though.

Our server in Palo was great! I feel bad for not writing down his name, but he was from Greece. He made this dinner a great experience.

After dinner, Charles Peachock was giving his family show so I went and watched that. Same thing as the adult show, his show didn’t change from the family show I saw on a previous cruise.

After the show, I went to a gameshow in the Tube called Pop! This gameshow was for adults only, and I want to thank my team for helping me when I went up. I had no idea the answers to any of the questions I had. At least I helped my team get back in the game by choosing questions everyone knew.

After the gameshow, the Liverpool legends gave their adults only show. I will say I enjoyed this show more than the family show.

The towel animal we got this evening was a turkey!

It was time for bed since we would be arriving in Martinique the next morning!
