Say Goodbye to the Auction Scene in Pirates

I agree with squeezle that the more interesting and innovative approach to the scene is to feature female pirates being complete characters.
My perspective is that the ride is a work of art that shouldn't have its scenes tampered with for political purposes.

It isn't meant to be taken as seriously, in a political sense, as some people are taking it. It isn't condoning or recommending the pirates' behavior.

Furthermore, since the vast, vast majority of pirates were male, featuring female pirates for political correctness's sake would make that scene feel false.

The pirates were never meant to be role models.

I have decided to start a list of offensive issues at Disneyland Park:

1. POTC ride
- Women being sold as wives
- Torturing the mayor
- Burning down cities
- Shooting guns at other people for sport
- Stealing

2. HM ride
- Women who murder their husbands
- Witchcraft and seances
- Suggesting that you commit suicide (stretching room)
- Suggesting that you hurry your own death in order to join the 999 "happy haunts"

3. Dumbo ride
- Circuses abuse animals and especially elephants

4. Peter Pan ride
- Torture of a young girl (Pirates make Wendy walk the plank)
- Torture of indian princess (Tiger Lilly tied up and threatened with death)
- Stereotype portrayal of indians

5. Princesses
- False portrayal of females using attractive young women as princesses often in need of being rescued by virile young men (who happen to be princes themselves)
- Nobility and royalty that support princesses lived their lives on the backs of serfs who were little more than indentured servants in real life and were heavily taxed for frivolous reasons such as the building of the palace at Versailles

6. BTMRR
- Mining activities damage the earth and contribute to global warming

7. Frontierland
- The real story of the American frontier is that of European derived people moving to North America and forcing out native Americans onto reservations and in general mistreating them and often killing them.
- Riverboats like the Mark Twain burned coal and polluted the environment contributing to global warming

8. Jungle Cruise
- Jokes made about people who kill others and take their skulls
- Jokes made about shooting guns at wildlife (Skippers and hippos)
- Jokes made about indigenous people who live in jungles

9. Alice in Wonderland ride
- Animals mistreated by the queen for her croquet game
- Servants mistreated and forced to paint flowers so that they will not be killed (and "lose their heads")
- In general the queen wanting to cut off people's heads who do not follow her orders ("Off with their heads!")

10. Star Tours
- Support for the idea of "The Force" which has no basis in reality but sounds a lot like witchcraft
- People being threatened with death

11. Winnie the Pooh
- Support for gluttony and obesity

12. Disneyland Railroad
- Steam trains burned dirty coal, polluted the environment, contributed to global warming, and went across native American lands which contributed to the downfall of native Americans

holy hell this made me laugh so hard

13. Autopia
- noise pollution due to noisy cars
- contributes to global warming because of the use of gasoline-powered vehicles

14. People Mover track
- contributes to urban decay because it's been there for so long without being used and is an eye sore and is deteriorating

15. Pinocchio
- child slavery on Pleasure Island

16. Toy Story Mania
- promotes & celebrates violence because you are rewarded (you get points) for shooting projectiles at stuff

17. all of Cars Land
- promotes global warming by celebrating gas-powered vehicles

18. all non-face characters at both parks
- could cause behavioral health problems in vulnerable populations because people might believe that animals and animated characters really can come out of the TV or movie screen and talk to you in real life

19. all of Main Street USA
- because it celebrates a time gone by when women didn't have the right to vote and women were generally treated as having fewer rights than men

My thing is, if it were real people, then yes it would be bad. But it is portraying pirates, which we all know were bad people. People need to not go to Disney parks then if they are offended. Vandvs mama, your killing me over here. Your list is awesome and so funny

Please don't give them any more ideas...

I have some more for Hydroguy's list...

20. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride
- because people might get the idea that it's ok for animals to drive cars. Somebody could go home and train Fido to drive the family car.

21. It's A Small World
- gives people a false sense of hope that everyone will all just get along and be happy if we are just nice to each other.

22. anything involving Donald Duck
- encourages & teaches others that it's ok to have huge temper tantrums in order to get what you want.

23. Mickey & Minnie Mouse
- teaches impressionable children that it's ok to just "date" somebody for decades and never commit.

24. Goofy
- teaches park guests that it's acceptable behavior to laugh at people who have physical disabilities like Goofy (who can't walk straight without tripping over himself).

Stop! Stop! Really! They'll write letters... If I wanted to go to PC World instead of Disney World, I'd go back to college.

The scene doesn't really bother me, because pirates are bad and it's a theme park. But I can understand eliminating the scene. Treating women as property for laughs and minimizing rape is actually still a problem in today's society, while it's not quite so common or acceptable to plunder ships or decapitate a husband. It's not just about being PC or family-friendly, but rather not contributing in such an overt way to a problem in society that did not go away with the pirates.
It's an amusement park ride. Not a thesis on women's rights. Lol

Bahahaha!

Perhaps if we examine the issue from another direction:

1. Create a list of all offensive things at DLR. Pick one that is the absolute worst and therefore should be changed. Wouldn't the rape scene be the one you pick to change?

2. If the rape scene is not too offensive to deserve a change, what would be? A bunch of little boys who are tied up and crying because they are being taken to a priest to be molested? Is there anything beyond "ha ha, look at those women crying because they don't want to be enslaved and raped" that could possibly make you think that maybe a little retouching might be in order?

3. What if they were changing it to add in more squid face guy? Would that be an acceptable modernizing of the ride to account for popular new characters? Or would that still be too PC?

4. If that still would be too PC, what if they add in a scene where the pirates are arguing over who gets to rape the squid face guy first? That change would seem to have the two things people on this board love most: updated ride content and implied rape.

For these scenarios let's limit ourselves to things that are real. Flying elephants are not real, and ghosts are not real, but women being raped while people laugh about it or dismiss it as no big deal is a real thing.

Thanks to @VandVsmama and @Winnowill for adding to the list. I suggest we keep an ongoing numbered list.

Once it seems to be finished, I plan to send an email to Disney and ask them to consider these also when they discuss the POTC scene that started this thread.

Disney would be crazy to not monitor forums like this so hopefully someone there is already alerted.

Many informed people argue that global warming is the greatest threat to mankind that exists. If so, that would put it first on the list.

:wizard:
Further, the Caribbean Pirates do not exist today and so that scene represents something that happened centuries ago and cannot be changed. Most people understand that they have nothing to fear from pirates in the Caribbean Sea today.

Global warming is happening now and affects everyone.
