To Infinity and Beyond - Becoming a Better DopeyBadger (Comments Welcome)

Haha! So it doesn't matter if you wear through the rubber on certain parts of the shoe as long is still feels great?

LOL, nope! If you still think it feels great, then go for it! Some people run barefoot, I won't judge. It's not for me, but that doesn't mean that they aren't enjoying it.

Also,Happy Anniversarypixiedust:

Thanks!

First off Belated Happy Anniversary to you and your wife.

Thanks!

I hope you both enjoyed it?

It was a nice anniversary dinner. Long story with lots of back story (her sister/husband actually were present at part of our honeymoon in Las Vegas) about how her family always seems to show up at anniversaries/celebrations of our marriage. Well during the dinner, her grandparents showed up yesterday. So, lol par for the course I guess. :P

Had a great week last week obviously highlighted with the pr 21:19 for the 5K looking forward to the revised training plan.

Agreed, a great week!

I've decided to run a Charity 10k on Sunday 6/(this is a Qualifier run for teh Wine & Dine in WDW so I'll be with the girls and at a 6Min/Klm pace
Might it be easier to switch Both these LR's with the week before's one? I'm concerned particularly about the July one as this is the longest LR in the plan.
What do you think?

What is the weekend of the charity 10k?

Happy Anniversary Billy!

Thanks!

Also, 2000 posts!!! Thanks everyone for following along my journey!

Catching up on your Monday recap...10.5 hours of sleep! That's the dream right there!
Carrying 66oz of water is kind of like the equivalent of in baseball when you're on deck and swinging with a really heavy bat right? And then when you get your lighter bat it feels easier? Maybe?

Oh and Happy Anniversary! Ours is today but we have no cheese curds. Maybe a trip to Culvers tonight would rectify that!

::yes::

Something like that. It's for sure a beast to carry and that's why I've got to kick it out from the interval window.

Oh and Happy Anniversary!

Thanks!

Happy Anniversary to you! Mmmmmm... Culvers! Have a concrete mixer on my behalf!

The last of the shoes have arrived! Three new pairs of Zealot Iso (each max out around 400 miles). So all these shoes should get me somewhere around 2200-2400 miles (a year's worth of running).
And I thought my running shoe collection was bad. I only have eight pairs lying around. You get in a lot more miles though so #Math dictates you need more shoes.

:P It is a mix of soon to be retired and new shoes, so not too many. o_O It's true as I run 6 days per week and will soon be doing 60+ miles per week. So #LotsofMiles coming up.

Wow are you organized! I shouldn't be surprised. Lol. I just have a simple system of lining them up on the floor near my treadmill.

Thanks! They also have small letters in sharpie on the back to differentiate between two of the same pair. This way I'm better able to blindly track the mileage on them.

Nice running shoe collection!!! I wish my shoe collection were so organized. ;)

Thanks! I keep the boxes from the shoes so that I can choose to donate them later. If someone else can find a use for them, then why not provide the box as well. The location helps because the laundry room is right off the garage, so I can simply walk in the house and choose the shoes to take upstairs to start the running prep.

You might be getting to a point where a scanning system makes sense to track all your shoes.

Does Strava not offer a shoe mileage tracker? That's one thing I like about RunKeeper - one of the selections I make before saving my run is which shoes I was wearing for the run, and the app then adds that run to that pair's cumulative miles total. Easy peasy.

I hope this hasn't been answered before, but do you have tips/tricks for drinking water from a cup during a race? I couldn't do it in my last race, and so I was thinking about bringing a straw or trying to fill my hand held on the run.... I'm sure there is a better way lol

My tips are:
1. If the cup is more than half full, pour out water from the cup until it is about half full.
2. Push the sides of the cup together until you have a small "V" formed on the lip of the cup.
3. Keeping the sides pushed together, sip out of the "V" that was formed in #2.
4. I usually take small amounts over many times of raising the cup to my mouth vs. trying to down it all at once.

I believe it does, but I don't use Strava in reality. Just Garmin uploads to it. Although Garmin has shoe tracking too, but I don't use it there either. I just have a printed spreadsheet taped to the wall in the kitchen with all the shoes on it. It's easy to just walk in the door after running and write it on the sheet. This way it can track but I can stay blinded to the total. I like to stay blind as to not influence how I "feel" about the shoe and its current need to be retired.

Not a good person to ask, although @opusone has the suggestion I've seen before. Never been good at getting this technique down. Personally, the last few years I've run with a Nathan 10oz handheld that straps to my hand. I hold the cap in my hand as I pass the aid station, grab a cup and refill the Nathan while on the run. It works reasonably well, but I am trying to get away from carrying water all the time.

This is very helpful!
