"Tapping Out" at FP Touchpoint still okay?

We had an issue when my DS, DDiL and DGSs went on great movie ride. My DD who was at home, was trying to get another FP for them. But DGS MB was still showing as the FP was not used. I'm guessing everyone else the the green light and no one noticed his didn't. I walked over, talked to the CM and just tapped it and left again.

I had no idea the problems that arise with tiered FP.

Yes, to be clear, I was talking about valid FPs. I guess maybe "dummy FP" or "tap don't ride" would have been better.

Disney has stopped using the second FP+ touch point for most (if not all) attractions.

I was there last week and I had to scan the second FP+ touch point for: Tower of Terror, NRJ, and FEA. I'm pretty positive I did for Great movie ride and RnRC too. I don't remember having to for any in MK.

was just there too I had to tap for space, FOP, did not do a lot of rides this trip ( and the ones the OP said above) I think the headlines you still do.

for the rides you have to tap twice you do have to tap the second one, I had a medical device almost rip out in a line and had to leave to go to first aid to get some tap to held it on and when I ws leaving the CM ask me if I had taped at the second one I said yes and she said since I did I would not be allowed back in using my FP and she gave me a rider swap to come back in

The 2nd touchpoint may do something but you don't have to tap the 2nd one to get an additional FP. I've done it many times and had no problems with the 2nd FP touchpoints.
Just last week we scanned in the first touch point and I was able to immediately move our next FP up, before tapping the 2nd touchpoint. Also, in a couple of cases were we'd only booked 1 FP at the first park we scanned in the first touch point and I was able to book a FP in the next park before we scanned in to the next touch point, we didn't have to wait till we scanned in the 2nd one.

So, wait...

You make a tier 2 fastpass you don't want to use because you have to. Then you get in the FP line, theoretically wasting time of people you get line after you. Tap your magicband. Then leave the line?

Seriously? People do that?

I don't do this myself, but if I were behind a "fake tapper", I would not consider my time wasted....I'd actually be happy they were leaving, lol.

This isn't as necessary as it once was since booking 3 FP isn't required as it once was. When you had to book and use, or let expire, 3 FP before you could book a 4th. Things are a bit different now but when it comes to trying to book a 2nd tier 1 ride you do sometimes need to book tier 2 FP you don't want to use.
Look at it like this, they may slow down your tapping of your band but they step away so they speed up your ride. You win in the long run
I've only done it once, last week we book FP for all of us for Speedway. I didn't want to ride. The fumes give me a headache. DH and DGD rode, so I tapped my band when they entered and I stepped away instead of entering with them. Then I sat down and booked us all FP for AK and when they got off the ride we all got on the Express bus and used our FP at AK. It was as easy to do that as it was go to in and remove me from the FP party

To get through unwanted FPs (read: Tier 2s) quicker to have a better chance at desired ones as fourth FPs. And no, you don't need to scan the second scan point--especially since many of them are inactive anyway.
That's interesting ... I had never thought about doing that. {Robin files it away for future use}

I do not do the seep way that often but I just did a few weeks ago and there was only one touch point so this may be way it worked this way for you. Agin I an only saying what I heard if it dose not work and there are 2 touch point you may need to go in and do both, I know I have tried to book another FP when using my 3 one and I have had to wait until I touched at the second one

Wait...huh? I've clearly missed something. Guess I need to go back and read the FP+ FAQ. I thought we still needed to book/use 3 FP+ before we could book another Tier 1 FP. So you could now book a Tier 1, then immediately after riding it book another Tier 1, even if you haven't used your other FP+ yet? But I'd assume it has to be a Tier 1 you use? In other words, I couldn't book in chronological order...Tier 2, Tier 2, Tier 1. Then when I get to the park and use my first Tier 2, then book a second Tier 1. I'm confused.... o_O

At the same park yes you do, at another park, no you do not

OK. So if I have my 3 FP+ set for HS first thing in the morning, as soon as I get to HS and use my first FP+ (does it have to be a Tier 1?) I can immediately go to MDE and book a Tier 1 FP+ for Epcot, even though I still have 2 FP+ remaining in HS? However, in that same scenario I couldn't book another FP+ for HS after using the first because I haven't used all 3 yet? Is that right? Wonder what the logic behind that is? Sell more park hopper?

Fake tapping? No. Never. If you don't have a FP for an attraction then you don't get to go in the FP line. And don't get me started on the nonsense with Same Day FP. I couldn't be happier about them closing a loophole that was never meant to be used.

Totally, totally agree!!! :thumbsup2

We've done a "fake tap" a few times... don't see why it would matter to you if I choose to actually sit in on the attraction or not. Either way, as soon as I scan I can book my next fastpass. Example: when my hubby and I visit somewhere like hollywood studios alone, we aren't going to sit and watch little mermaid. We've seen it plenty of times with our kids. We want to do the fun stuff that we normally have to use rider swap for and those happen to be the tier 1 attractions.

We call it "tapping off" not fake tapping and we have done it often.
I don't ride roller coasters but it's easier for me to make FP for my whole family.
I go up to the ride with them "tap off" my magic band but don't get on the ride.

I don't see anything wrong with this.

It would be too confusing to do it any other way if we want to get additional FPs in the park through the app once we've used our 3.

Also, in Epcot, I wanted to see characters and they did not. So I got 3 FPs for the characters. They "tapped off" and went to do something else while I met Mickey and the gang. That way when we wanted to get later in the day, we all could get them together and keep it simple.

No. If you book 3 FP at HS you can't book anything at another park till you use, or the 3 FP expire. But you can book 1, or 2, FP for HS and as soon as you use 1 FP at HS you can book 1 for Epcot.
Otherwise, you are correct.
