Flight of Passage + People of Size = Disappointing

Tell me more about these leg restraints. DH isn't Pooh sized but he has GIANT calves. His lower legs look like two upside down bowling pins. How big can your calves be before it is a problem with the leg restraints?

I watched the pre-loading video and it looks like they are just little flaps or doors that come out rather than something that clamps on to your legs. Would that be an accurate assessment?

They are straight padded flaps that are triangle shaped (bigger on the outside getting smaller as it goes towards the bike). If he needs to he can try to position his leg so it hits the part as low down his calf as possible and not right at the biggest part.

The first CM could also have applied excessive force

The second CM might have been right to turn the guest away.

If that second CM had applied more force and actually hurt the guest, we would be talking in a very different kind of topic ...

It was not excessive force. The first CM knew how to jostle the restraint the right way to get it to catch. The second CM barely tried, honestly.

I'm 6'3" 340ish and I fit, but it was a bit tight in the back, I didn't even notice once the ride started. I would be highly preturbed if I waited in line twice the same day, and one CM could fit me and another couldn't. I would have found someone somewhere who would have given me a FP to something for my time

Correct.

You are going to tell me I was good to ride in the morning but now "my legs swelled" and I cant ride? No way that is going to fly in my book.

Again I would put money on it that some kind of tweaking, or bigger seats are going to come to this attraction at some point.

I don't know. I've definitely ridden coasters that take extra effort to squash me into the restraints. I don't mind being squashed but if I was a CM I would be really uncomfortable doing that to another person. So unless the person could tell me how another CM did it, I'd probably turn them away to be safe. I get that you're talking about finesse, but that takes experience working the ride. The same CM might, in a month, let the same guy on no problem.

There really aren't rides that I CAN'T ride at Disney, but I suspect given my height and calves that this might be one of the ones I don't care to ride. Not everyone can ride everything comfortably. Just a fact.

I truly cannot believe there are people who don't understand that for many, to have to try something - ANYTHING - on for size in front of others can cause a lot of anxiety and embarrassment. Thankfully most here seem compassionate enough to understand that, but those other few....

I understand and empathize but I think others have to also realize the restraints are for safety and at some point they are no longer safe (someone in another thread mentioned that the bigger mass the more force and the easier it is to break the restraints) and that these companies are in a rock and a hard place. If they hide the test seats no one is going to use them and stand in long lines just to do the walk of shame but if they put them by the front of the queue they are insensitive monsters.

Oh, right - I understand the need to have them somewhere visible. I just cringe at some of the things being said here about how people are "supposed" to feel about things. I agree though - they can't win for losing on this one.

This makes me so sad. People are on vacation and having people shaming them could totally ruin their trip. Their hate and judgment may not be visible to the naked eye (it's easy to pick on size since it's visible), but they are some of the worst character traits a person can possess IMO. I sure hope people that are subjected to this rudeness realize that the taunting says more about the rude person than it does about them.

Just don't let it ruin your trip. It's them that has issues. It happens in all walks of life and sizes. Someone is always around to say you aren't normal, as good as them, rich, pretty, handsome, smart, popular, fashionable, etc, etc. Be confident in who you are and just remember that people who make fun of others are the most insecure on this planet. Ignore them. Can you tell I am a mom of a teenage girl?

Love and hugs to all.

Oh yeah that I don't get. I understand when people who have to use them are embarrassed especially when having to ask someone to take their kids off the thing so you can use it for its real purpose. It is also awful what people say to those using the seats. What they may not realize is the person trying it has been working really hard to get to where they are now and the excitement of checking how far you've come goes straight out the window when someone calls you fatty.

Are people really just wasting their vacation time to stand around this ride seat to call people fat? I don't get it.

Co-signed. Those things are embarrassing.

Thank you. It's always curious to me when people tell others how they should feel. I think it might be enlightening for those people to try "just not reacting" when someone yells at them or pushes one of their hot buttons. Psychology is complex, and not so easily altered.

Yes, the lack of compassion is amazing to me as well. I guess it's hard to put oneself in another's shoes. I am a petite person and have to see this through my BF's eyes, though, so I have a view into the situation that I might not have had otherwise.

Awww... if you are referring to what I wrote I apologize. I'm not trying to tell anyone how to feel. Only a reminder that people who tear down others are not happy people and have much bigger issues.

They didn't really think through where that seat should be located.. directly in everyones pictures of the mountains was a huge fail... but as a heavier person, I know I'm heavy, I know I might not be able to ride.. I'm also taller and there's more than a few disney rides I need to get in very specific or I will not fit.. It's more in your head and how much of a big deal your family makes of the situation.. I'd rather know if I'm wasting 3-6 hours in line and get a clear view of the seat to know how to sit in it than not get in because it took too much time in the room.

but with that said, If he's tall and 300ish pounds, that makes him smaller than me and I can ride it and get locked in no problem. I suspect the issue might be how he has his feet positioned and it's a very confusing seat if your taller...... This isn't going to help now but I have to lift my heals a little more for it to lock and then I can relax into position.

Yes, he said he couldn't do that because of where his knees hit, or something like that. It's hard for me to picture because I don't remember how the seat looked.

Thank you. I would like this thread to remain on the Theme Parks forum because the topic is about how the ride was built and that it is not accommodating different body types, and hoping that Disney will change it. I didn't start this thread to bring up debate about psychology and size.
