WDW Maid Caught in Sting

I read the article earlier about it being a $20 left on the nightstand too. My first thought as well was perhaps she thought they were tips. I don't always put mine with a note, or in an envelope, between getting myself, my kids, all our stuff and begging my husband to hurry, I've got enough going on. If it was just money, I wonder if she really thought they were tips. Especially if she hadn't worked there very long. On the other hand, if it was "stuff" that she was taking, that's not right. I'm guessing all of the employees are being reminded of the rules right now. Guulty of not, she's being made an example of.

Years ago when you still used Traveler checks, we had $500.00 worth of checks taken from our room. We reported it to the front desk, went on to Epcot, went to the American Express station at Guest Services, had our checks replaced. When we got back to our room that night, our checks showed up in the original place that they had been, but in full view. Not under items of clothing where we had hid them. Maybe it was the same house keeper.

When I was at All-Star Music I left money out routinely under a paper that said Thank you (I didn't see any envelopes) and it was there when I got back each day - I couldn't give away my money.

And no, I got no towel animals.

I don't even need you to come in my room - this further confirms it.

Make the bed when I check out

Im sure this kind of stuff happens a lot.

Many years ago, when some credit card receipts still had the card number listed on them, we had one slip stolen from our room at the Poly. Didn't know it till the front desk called us and told us our traveling companions had checked out and they needed to authorize our card to pay the rest of the bill. We didnt even have use the card the entire time we were there. Guess they had checking in to a room and went on a shopping spree. Thankfully we were staying Concierge and they got it fixed for us quickly. It was stressful for a while though.

Not that we ever lost anything, but I often wonder, with DVC we bring in snacks and soda. Has anyone helped themselves to a cookie or two, just to tide them over to lunch.

I'm sure a majority of mousekeeping would never do anything like that, but there's always a small minority who take advantage of situations. Personally, I've never had anything taken from my room. I put tips in envelopes, and the rest in the room safe or in a bag.

I have mixed feelings on this. The article says things came up missing from other rooms that she has cleaned, but I think this was entrapment. I mean, she took a $20 bill off the nightstand. I can completely understand why she would; she probably thought it was a tip. If they had left an ipad out and she took that, well then, you have a case imo

What?

Stealing is stealing.

So, I have a friend who owns a restaurant who has a camera trained on the cash register. One of the staff was recorded as taking money from the register. More than once. Do you say that is entrapment? I call that catching a thief.

Reread it again. The article stated the money was put IN the night stand, not on top. Hard to take that as a tip.

Several years ago my daughter had her Nintendo DS & all games stolen from our room (VWL); we suspect housekeeping or someone in that chain of collecting stolen items because one of the items left with the Nintendo DS strangely was found after we called.

A few hours after we had left we called the resort; they were able to locate the "rainbow loom" kit with no issue but the Nintendo DS in the same exact drawer never turned up.

Ended up filing a police report - was so let down by the whole thing

We always have drinks and snacks. I doubt I would notice if housekeeping took something!

As far as money and valuables - I've never had anything stolen from me at any hotel and I'm not particularly careful. It goes to show that it must be pretty rare.

They charged her with Grand Theft, which I believe means she stole at least $300, so they must have a solid caseof her taking more than just that $20 bill.

I was not referring to that article. I was agreeing with another person who has read the same article where it said the $20 was left ON the nightstand.

"According to an arrest report, investigators placed $20 on a nightstand and caught Burgos taking the money after cleaning the room."

That's awful. It wasn't Disney, but when we moved from TX to Va and were in a hotel waiting to close on a hous3, my husband's wedding band was stolen. He had taken it off because his hand was swelling, next day it was gone, along with his mp3 player. So awful to steal from a kid, and also someone wedding ring.

I always use mine. Any credit cards I don't need, or extra cash go into it. Meds too as I read a while back about someone having meds coming up missing.
People put money in there? Mine is always full of camera lenses. :)

It is horrible to get things stolen, but it is never ever a good idea to leave electronics out. I've bought my nephew a lock for his laptop which he always takes on vacation. If he doesn't bother using it, it is on him if it is taken.
