So about this Hurricane - 10/7 Dream cancelled, 10/7 Magic Canadian, 10/8 now 10/9 Fantasy 6-night

Someone from the other site for our cruise date (October 7th Magic) said they called Sydney and was told the Magic would be in Sydney, Halifax and St. John.

Another person said they called DCL and DCL was adamant that we were still going South.....so, who knows!!!

That's not really surprising -- the contacts in the Canadian ports are likely those working at those ports and would have current info, possibly were actively involved in the alternate plan negotiations with DCL. Unfortunately, DCL phone CMs are not likely to know anything more than the rest of us... and it may even get updated on the website before pushed to all phone CMs. I feel for those people, they have absolutely no information to give out but are likely being bombarded by frustrated (and potentially angry) guests who want to know something. DCL is likely trying to figure out options for all 3 ships before announcing piecemeal.

Just my opinion... DCL is in a no-win situation with regards to making an announcement. If they announce a cancellation, people will demand to know options and what the ships plan to do. If DCL waits until those options can be announced, people are upset because no announcement of cancellation has been made earlier. As others have mention, those options may not be as simple as "go to Texas" due to space constraints at various ports and the fact that there are MANY ships out there in the same situation all scrambling to figure out where is safe. I believe DCL's primary focus should be what to do with the passengers currently onboard, how to stretch supplies if the cruise ends up longer than expected, where to port safely for debarkation for those guests, and how those guests will get home. Future cruisers sitting at home should be safe as far as DCL is concerned. My recommendation is for guests to do what is safest for their own personal situation without waiting for DCL to announce plans/options. Keep yourselves and your families safe. Stay out of Florida, or leave Florida if already there and it's a feasible option for you.

You would think they would of starting thinking of a plan a week ago. They had plenty of warning that this was a possibility.

I don't think anyone knew what this was going to blow up into. Of course they have some contingency plans or ideas, but this thing has become much more than originally predicted and has a mind of its own. Much like Sandy which changed paths more than once before deciding it wanted to see Broadway and the Jersey Shore.

I'd say it's going to Canada. Earlier in this thread, I posted an article from the Cape Breton Post that the Disney Magic will be making an 'unexpected' visit to Sydney on 10/10/16 due to Hurricane Matthew. I also saw the Disney Magic listed on the cruise schedule for Halifax for 10/12/16.

The DCL phone operator (wherever they are located...) hasn't got a clue as Disney hasn't released any of the info yet--although apparently the ports know about it!

I hope for all of you that Disney releases info soon--I understand wanting to wait until you have all the details figured out, but in some ways it would be better to have a preliminary statement saying that itineraries WILL be changing, details to follow.

They also have since updated that FW is officially being evacuated by mandate and folks there moved to hotels.

Has Disney sent notification to guests to still come to Florida? Unless they have, I don't call that encouraging.

They definitely need to call the cancel on the 3-night. Definitely. I'm highly doubtful of the cruises next week. If she comes in a strong 3 or better they'll need to find alternative ports of embarkation or cancel even more. If it loops around the way the morning models on Wunderground are showing....I don't even want to know. It's insane.

Ps. Be safe. Take care. I've lived along the gulf coast my whole life. Done a lot of storms (including Katrina & Ike). I'm thinking of everyone over there hoping she makes a better shift for y'all.
Sweatpee..I'm in Boston. I just got off the phone with DCL customer relations (5 mins ago) and was told that I should plan on being at PC at the scheduled departure time on Friday as the cruise itinerary has not been modified and no changes have been announced. I was verbally advised that I should plan on traveling there if I want to sail. That to me is nothing other than, if you don't want to lose your money, than show up in a place that has been evacuated. Clueless.

Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. And losing cruise fare money (while not fun) is not a big deal, and far less valuable than my family's safety and convenience.

I'm sorry. IMO this is totally irresponsible and contrary to the current realities and facts associated with the storm, as we know them at this time.

Of course the storm can change and nobody knows what the storm will ACTUALLY do until it has ALREADY happened. How long do you need to wait?

Totally disagree. The storm has progressed as forecast for over a week. The actual track has remained within the generally forecast cone with no material deviation. As the forecasts have changed over the past few days, every scenario has only painted a worse picture.

Disney has totally failed. You make the best decision with the information you have at the time. And all of the information is getting worse by the hour for them Total fail.

Following along. I feel for those impacted by the storm, and those who's plans are in complete shambles: the stress of the situation must suck, first world problem or not.

Disney is handling the situation like garbage - how can they not have a plan, and communicate it already?

IMO they're playing with peoples safety ... pathetic.

Wow....Port Canaveral closed, flights into Orlando canceled and DCL still telling people to show up. The ignorance on their part is just appalling and just goes to show that DCL is just a side business for Disney and isn't a real cruise line as they don't seem to have a clue how to handle or manage this situation.

We are scheduled to leave on the Magic on Friday. The ports are showing the Magic at Sydney on 10/10 and Halifax on 10/12 :( If they announce that the itinerary has changed, can we choose not to go and apply our payment to another sailing? I have NO desire to spend that much money to go to Canada. We we really looking forward to a warm vacation.

5 days ago the forecast had the storm being a good bit east of castaway cay and no where near Florida at this point. So to say the storm has progressed as forecast is incorrect.

I hope they give you that option. I am sailing on 10/15 and feel the same way -- I have no interest in paying that much money for a cold weather cruise. I'd much rather have the option to cancel/refund and book another time. Fingers crossed that they offer you cancellation options with the itinerary changes!

Sounds like the 2008 TS Fay scenario all over again. The port was closed the day we were to board as well - except that the Wonder was stuck in FLL. When we called, they said the same thing - go to the port as scheduled. They neglected to tell us that we would then be bussed to FLL to board the cruise. IMO, they're banking on being able to pull that stunt off a second time. UGGGHHHH.

The Disney Cruise Contract says they don't have to give you any options (although, they very well may make such accomodations):
The Vessel, either before or after proceeding toward the port of destination and though not required by any maritime necessity, may remain in port, proceed by any route and deviate from or change the advertised or intended route at any stage of the voyage and may proceed to and stay at any places whatsoever, although in a contrary direction to or outside of or beyond the usual route, once or more often, in any order, for loading or discharging fuel, stores, laborers, stowaways, Guests, or members of the Vessel's company, for this or any prior or subsequent voyage and/or for any purpose whatsoever that the Carrier or Master may deem advisable. Any such procedure or occurrence shall be considered not to be a deviation but within the voyage herein intended as fully as if specifically described herein. The above-mentioned provisions are not to be considered as restricted by any words of this Cruise Contract whether written, stamped or printed.
