Line holders

:welcome: to the DIS!

What a coincidence that 2 brand new members decided to jump in at the same time on such a contentious issue.
And you didn't see what was deleted from last night! That was the escalation!
However, if a dad and one child finished an activity in just enough time to find that mom and the other kids hadn't even entered the ride/show, etc. I wouldn't have any problem with them joining in. Again, that family shouldn't make a habit of it but "gray area" IMO and come on it is a vacation so let them enjoy it together without making the other children go back to the end of the line.

But why is that dad and child's time more precious than my husband and child's time that they waited on line with me? It's a vacation to enjoy together, so they can wait in line together as a family. Not as half of you do one activity while the other half waits in line so they can cut through the line and enjoy two attractions in the time it takes a more courteous family to do one. Disney is the only theme park where this behavior is tolerated.

it's the term "honeypot" that sounds silly, not the line cutting. look, just because people don't think something is right and people should not be allowed to continue such rude behavior, doesn't mean we have "angst" about it. it's just wrong, plain and simple.
if every family has one placeholder for the 4 others, it will significantly affect the wait time.
oh! but that will never happen! you say. so what you're really saying is it's only ok if "some" people do it.

and if you haven't seen 10-20 people cut in line, you haven't been there during the tour group season or cheer time. I have seen it, often. and while I wouldn't wait in line an hour for winnie the pooh, some people have children or grandchildren who love winne. (the things we do for our kids...)

Are these isolated experiences as some have suggested? These threads usually take many, many pages when this subject comes up and we have all experienced this in one way or the other. That doesn't seem like it's isolated to me.

And yes it is a slippery slope. If a family or group gets away with this in one line do you actually think they will never do it again? Really? Because if I had to guess I would think they would use the tactic often to save time waiting in lines once they understand there are no consequences. Would you rather be waiting in a tedious line for 45 minutes or shopping in the store next door while someone in your group holds you a place in line? Sure many of us understand it's rude to cut in line but, many others will think nothing of it because their time is more precious than some stranger they never have to see again. Maybe I am a cynic but, I think way more people than many of us would like to believe would engage in this behavior if they knew CM's would do nothing to stop them.
Even if only a small fraction of WDW guests actually engage in this behavior, it would still be enough to affect other guests enjoyment. It's the same attitude as pushing through a crowd and bullying someone aside who has waited 90 minutes for a spot up front for a parade. And we know no one ever does that at WDW ... Right? Lol

I think most us are reasonable and understand sometimes someone needs to leave a line. As I said above I have no issue with someone exiting a line to use the restroom. I've experienced this many times and it's no big deal to me.
I have also experienced more than a couple people moving through a line they had never waited in to begin with to meet up with others in their group. To me that's different, and it's not ok.

To each their own though.. If it doesn't bother some of you, that's great for you. However.. if some of us think it's wrong to break the rules and want to complain about it a little.. That should be understandable.

Line cutting is against WDW rules. Just because WDW doesn't want their CM's to enforce their own rules, in order to not rock the boat, that still doesn't make it ok or acceptable behavior.

it's threads like this that make me question the wisdom of coming here for information. There is no strategy involved and they are certainly not pleasant. I refer to these such threads as "the dark side of the Dis".

Then I'm curious why you opened a thread called "Line holders".

Well yes I was. Since we beat this dead horse ad nauseam every other week or so I thought perhaps it was something different. I just skimmed the last page so I figured I'd add to this delightful and informative thread like everyone else.

Only time I've ever used my DW as a line holder was when we already were in line and one of the kids had to go to the bathroom. And I've been embarrassed and sheepish every time coming back with my DS or DD going "excuse me, I'm sorry, little one had to use the bathroom". Because of that, if it's more than a 30 minute wait or even a long ride, I take my kids in the bathroom before we get in line to avoid having to do this.

Little one has to use the restroom and I have no problem but otherwise you ain't getting by me. Nope! Not happening. You have a problem with that go back and get a CM to escort you by me. That's all you have to say to these people. And good luck with that CM helping you do that.

I have definitely had my husband stand in line for a character while I wait in another with my kids. It doesn't add time to the line.

We have gotten to rides with long lines as a family and 10 mins in my child has had to use the bathroom... or the kids complain about being hot or thirsty and I've hopped out to grab them ice cream or drinks or popsicles or water bottles that we left in the stroller. Sorry if someone finds that obnoxious. I would never think twice seeing anyone else do the same.

People really happily send someone out of line for "drinks and snacks?"

Seriously, have we really gotten to a place where people need to eat something every 5 minutes?

If you are going to die without food, bring it in the line with you. If you need water that desperately, I would think you would have brought water with you.

Otherwise - you can wait until after the ride for that Mickey bar. No?

If your three year old has to pee, that's one thing, but someone coming back bearing pretzels and sodas would really annoy me.
I mean, sure, my 4 year old won't die without a drink, but if it makes her whine a little less during a 45 min wait, I will surely be willing to go grab water while she waits in the sun. It helps make things more pleasant for everyone waiting...

If you were already in the line and get out then back in not a problem. But if you are in another line somewhere then show up and expect not to wait in the new line like the rest of us you are in the wrong. Sorry but it's true. Hopefully I am not in your line because you will need a CM to get by me.

How do you not see that this is rude, plain and simple? Why is your time more important than mine? Why should you see another attraction while everyone else politely and properly waiting in the line is waiting, then you come waltzing ahead of everyone because someone was saving your spot? Rude.

You come wait by me, because they're not getting by me, either.

Folks remember the " you are going to have to get a CM to escort you to your waiting line holder" started here on the DIS. Again if you were already in line and stepped out to take your child to the restroom no problem. Otherwise Nope! You will wait in line like the rest of us had to do.

I might have tee shirts printed up.......all writing on the back of the shirt of course.:teeth:

Meh. He's waiting too.

lol. Divide and conquer, y'all. What if he wanted the pic instead? He is waiting to take a pic, which his kids are going to be in instead. What if he stands in line for popcorn that my kids are going to eat? Should my kids wait in line for popcorn or can he do the waiting even though someone else will consume it?
