Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Silly question but does everyone else cross pack one outfit in another suitcase? Once all bags made the trip but mine was delayed a day. I had to buy a new shirt for day 2 (aww darn), but finding 'unmentionables' in the park for sale doesn't seem to exist. I learned the value of cross packing that trip.

Huh! I never fly, so I've never thought of this. I'll definitely keep it in mind for any future flights though :P I'd lose my mind if I flew out to Disneyland and had to rewear the clothes I just wore for the 7 hour plane ride.

Stories like that make me happy we drive. I do pack one bag for the night's stay on our drive down and another bag for our first night just to make things easier.

After the adjustor hemmed a hahhed for a day, ours was deemed fixable. We will get it back early May if we are lucky. Fortunately, it's at a nearby body shop that my dad has used for years.

Guess that's a difference between Canada and US insurance, we won't actually see any money ...the garage bills our insurance company (who then colllects from the other guy's insurance company if I'm understanding things correctly).
We wouldn't have seen any either if it was repairable. Only because its totalled do I get a check, so I can use that to replace the car. Oh and I got a check to replace my car seats , as well. Hopefully you get yours back quickly. My rental car contract reached the maximum my insurance company would pay so I would've been out a car if I didn't go purchase one.

I've had luggage lost many times. It always shows up, but sometimes a day or two later. I now carry on baggage as much as possible. We've been going to WDW during the summer months lately so we have taken carry on only. I have mastered packing for a 2 week WDW summer trip with only carry on suitcases. It's so hot in summer, so clothing is lightweight and doesn't take much room. I do laundry after the first week, so that helps. I take a small carry on size suitcase and a backpack.

I find flights that I can do direct out of our small airport I'm not as concerned about lost baggage. We fly to Mexico direct and I check bags. But flying from the west coast of Canada to Orlando requires a change of planes so I'd rather not check bags.

I have told DH that when we retire, I want to spend 3 weeks at Disney, just walking around the parks. I figure I will probably be doing it alone. He likes Disney, but is not quite the addict I am. :hyper2:

When my younger brother got married, they surprised all of us by having their first dance be a choreographed dance to the music from Illuminations. We were the only people at the entire reception who understood (including the brides parents, who had no clue), and it was so cool. It honestly made me cry, just hearing the music, and remembering all of the amazing nights we had watched those fireworks as a family. So many of my best memories are related to Disney. That is why, despite the rehabs, uber planning, schedule changes etc... it is still my happy place. 2 MORE DAYS!!! :dogdance:
I need to really make sure I take time to stop and smell the roses on this trip. I have never planned so much for a trip to WDW before, so we've always gone at our own pace. This trip I used touring plans, made ADRs 180 days out, scheduled FP at 60 days out. Now, I need to remember that while all that is there (schedule, FP, ADRs) I DON"T have to run us ragged to stick to them. Some of my best memories are the down time at the parks, especially MK.

Not silly at all--as other PP have said, cross pack to your hearts content. It's advised that you pack at least a full days worth of clothing in your carry on (so you at least have two outfits to swap around until the airline finds the bag), so, go on ahead!

The first time we drove to Disney, about 3 hours from home we stopped and I asked DH to grab something from the toiletries bag. He said what toiletries bag? I flipped out. He had left the entire bag at home. We had to stop at Walmart and spend easily 70 bucks on everything from shampoo and conditioner to vitamins, hairbrush, sunscreen etc. I was SO angry! Now, I pack the car lol.

We are staying one night about 2.5 hours from Disney so we need to pack a suitcase with the stuff for that night and the next day, so we don't have to pull everything out of the car at that stop. But that's not exactly what you were asking....

My ds will be 14 now wants to bring one of his best friends since kindergarten, she's a girl. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He wants to leave his brother at home:headache:

Hahaha! I can see my DS doing this and honestly, we would have no problems bringing the female friend with us if it was planned in advance. But we know that DS doesn't have any interest in girls here at home since he decided at the age of 5 that he was going to marry the first girl he met on the first day of kindergarten and though that young lady no longer lives near us, he has not wavered a bit. And most of his friends are girls, so if he was thinking about bringing someone, chances are high that it would be a girl. Boys can be so funny.

That's super awesome. Talk about keeping your eye on the prize!

Okay, here's kind of a weird question for you guys.... My daughter and I ALWAYS pick-a-pearl in Japan. A few years ago we got our pearls set and we've been REALLY pleased with our jewelry. When we went in November 2015, we picked our pearls as usual, but when we went to look in the jewelry case there was a problem. Apparently, they were in the process of getting a new vendor for a lot of their setting options, so ALL they had were the pearl cages, and those really aren't my style. (I was going to get a new ring, and have my daughter's beautiful twin grey pearls set as earring studs.) Okay. No problem, I'll do something with them at home. Except I get home and it would actually be WAY more expensive to have a jeweler here set them. I'm talking 100+ per item. No thanks. SO all three pearls have been sitting in their little Disney bags in my wallet ever since. I'm wondering if when we go back next month if I can have them set then? Initially it didn't even occur to me that I might *not* be able to, but now I'm looking at the bags and they've got the date we picked them on them. Has anyone else ever taken pearls back to be set on a totally different trip? I tried looking through the pick-a-pearl board but couldn't find any precedent for this. Any help/ideas would be appreciated!

That's why I stand by the car with my packing list while I make my boys do the heavy lifting.

I do all the packing for this very same reason. Our toiletry bag almost got left behind one time many years ago. Luckily I ran back in to the house to check something (probably checking for the millionth time that the windows were locked....or the computers unplugged....or the oven/stove turned off....) and happened to see the bathroom bag (as we call it) still sitting at the top of the steps. I would have flipped if we had gotten to the hotel that night and that bag wasn't in the car. Now *I* do all of the packing. The kids and husband have to make their piles of clothing the day before and I check their inventory and do the actual packing of the bags. And then I put my ninja Tetris skills to work to pack the car.

I don't know for sure but have you ever heard of a store in Disney turning down money. LOL Bring the original receipt and let them know they were unable to set them when you got them

I feel weird suggesting Etsy as a guy(it's my go-to for "creative" gifts for DW) but they have some really nice pearl cages for much cheaper if you are still interested in that route.
