Annual pass changes coming........

I keep seeing people refer to memory maker with the new passes. I've read the fine print and it says photopass. I thought memory maker and photo pass was two different things or am I over thinking all of this? Would you still get all your ride and dining photos with the ap since it is including photopass now?

I think the terminology is confusing - since Memory Maker used to be PP+ and PP+ used to be just PP. Check out the Disney Terms Webpage: scroll down to Memory Maker and AP with Photopass Benefits. It clears up some of the confusion (or it did for me) but not all my questions.

Memory Maker is a product that provides an entitlement for the download of Photopass pictures.

The Platinum Plus, Platinum, and Gold passes are also products that provide an entitlement for the download of Photopass pictures.

Yes, the passes with a photo entitlement do provide attraction and dining photos.

ARGH! Just bought 2 DVC APs yesterday for DH and me. Was waiting for some new Disney gift cards to come in to purchase DS'. Our trip begins--wait for it--on December 17th! SO now I have to buy DS the Platinum AP or he will be blacked out. I think I will have a PhotoPass person follow us around all weekend so that we can get our money's worth from that "free" perk. Totally didn't need that extra expense right now.

How will that work? If your child is too young to have his own MDE account, can you as parent managing his tickets get the photopass downloads on your mde account??

We buy annual passes every year. 3 weeks ago we bought the Memory Maker for use from mid December to mid January. With the new Platinum pass the PhotoPass is included.

I called Disney today and the first person said bad luck about the situation. After saying I was not happy he then put me through to another section and the lady was much more helpful and has processed a refund on the Memory Maker. We will buy the Platinum Pass at guest services when we arrive mid December.

The DVC renewal price is $584.69

We are done.
We will not be renewing our FL resident AP for the first time in 4 years. To do so would involve us paying $589.90 per person (this is the renewal rate on what would now be the Platinum pass) when last year we paid a renewal rate of 459.00 per person for the same pass.

I have no interest in Photo pass and find it ridiculous and insulting when I asked a GS CM at HS why I would pay more to have the same pass as I have held for 4 years at a higher rate. She told me that Photo pass would make up the difference. Well, that is great if you actually WANT and USE PP.

I have no doubt that Disney has arranged a loss margin in the P&L statement set aside for AP who won't be renewing. And I am quite sure that all the new passholders they get who will not blink an eye to purchase this piece of garbage pass will offset those of us who won't .

Very disappointed in this but thankfully there are other nearby theme parks who are not screwing over their guests (yet)

Received this email from Disney just now. Not very helpful.

Thank you for being a Walt Disney World® Passholder!

Today we are introducing a new portfolio of Passes that has been designed to offer a wider variety of options and entitlements to best fit the needs of our Passholders. As a valued Guest and frequent visitor to Walt Disney World Resort, we want you to be among the first to know about these program enhancements.

Rest assured that your current Pass has not changed and your existing benefits will remain valid through your Pass's expiration date. When it is time for you to renew, you will have a new set of Pass options that offer great flexibility and value to enjoy our Walt Disney World Theme Parks, and even some new benefits!

Please remember, your current Pass has not changed and your existing benefits remain valid through your Pass's expiration date. And because you're an existing Passholder, when your Pass does expire, you will be able to purchase any of these new Pass options at a special Passholder renewal rate – of up to 15% savings†!

Dear Disney,

When I think of "friends" with "benefits" this was not what I was expecting..... but when you think about it, I guess the outcome is the same

Sorry if this has already been asked. I purchased an AP in August 2015. We are planning on going back this April. We usually get MM. Is there a way to upgrade the pass to the new platinum pass that would include the MM. If this is possible would it be the difference between the two pass prices or would they prorate the price for the months that I have left on my pass. If I can upgrade to the platinum can I do it ahead of time online or on the phone or do I have to wait to do it at the parks?

You can pay the difference to upgrade to the Platinum pass. It is not prorated. It must be done in person.

I had one CM on the phone today crowing that these new passes would save my family over $1000 per year. I kindly asked her to explain her math, since our DVC APs didn't have blackout dates before. She told me that, well, now we can go in the summer! I explained to her that in fact, we were always able to go in the summer, and now for the privilege of being able to keep our reservations at DVC's most solidly booked time of the year, members are being charged an extra $100 to avoid the blackout. She told me that not paying for MM would save us $1000 over the year. I told her I didn't want to get MM to begin with, so this didn't make a savings any more than them telling us about not having to pay $50000 for a gilded elephant and telling me I was now saving $50000, nor do we drive and need free parking, so we would like to opt out of those benefits. This didn't go well. She was telling me that everyone she had talked to today had been over the moon and thrilled about these changes. I politely asked if she had been talking to the office of the CFO. Then she transferred me to her supervisor, who gave me clear information on the changes and admitted that they had been bombarded with "valuable feedback" all day.

Thank you for clearing this up as it's one of the things I was wondering about. Do you know how it will work with AP holders sharing with non-AP holders? We are traveling with family next year and were planning to purchase MM for all of us to share. Now with us having APs, can we still share with them without having to purchase MM? If DH & I are the only AP holders, are only the photos we scan with our bands included? We are traveling with 2 other families, but we don't plan to be together at all times, so I'm sure they will be taking photos when we are not around to scan our bands. Just trying to figure out if they should still purchase and maybe just split it between them and not include DH & I since we will have it with our APs.

My reply :

So, basically, our AP renewal cost went up by $86 , and the only change is that we will have an unlimited Photopass, which we never use ?!!
Why not make this "perk" an optional cost?
If, for example, I purchased a "magic your way" ticket, and did not want to take the park hopper option, is Disney going to make me take it, and charge me for something that I might not have use for ??!!!
Doesn't seem like you are treating your public fairly --- at all !!
Sincerely,
Very Disgruntled Disney Lover

Anyone with an entitlement to download photos can download the photos belonging to anyone with whom they are "Family And Friends."

Great thanks! Can I do this at GR and then the MM will be activated immediately?

Guest Relations or any ticket booth can do the upgrade. The photo download entitlement is active immediately.

We haven't been to WDW in almost 5 years. We just finished a 15 month pass at Universal in July. We were considering passes at WDW for Christmas because it had been so long since we have been there and we haven't seen any of the new rides nor experienced the magic bands. I can go back to Universal for 1200 with no block out days or go to Disney with blackout dates that doesn't allow me to go in the summer months for 1600. If I choose the Universal pass that has the same black out days it would cost 860.00.

While I miss things at Disney (Im the Disney nut) my family had just as much fun at Universal. With the 800 dollar difference I can plan several weekends at a Deluxe Universal Hotel and get the Express Pass for unlimited front of the line access.

Same here ---- Never rent/take a car---- parking not needed
Complimentary magicband ---- really ??? We have around 100 in e house now
Unlimited Photopass---- never use it
$86 more for renewal --- Joke

What I think a lot of people are missing about the added "perK' of the PP is that each person is paying an increase for it. I do like the addition of the "free parking" because as a family that lives an hour away we go over quite often and that parking benefit will pay for itself and the PP. This new ticket system will work for some and not work for others.

Just like when DDP offered an appetizer, entree, dessert, snack and included the tip - that worked for some while others cried that it was too much food and a waste, blah, blah, blah. Then the tip was dropped, appetizer was dropped and price was increased which, again, worked for some but not others. Eventually they added in the resort refillable mug as part of the DDP while 'only raising the cost $1' and most people loved it. Those of us that used to collect the resort specific mugs and stopped getting the refillable mugs when they went to a generic design, well the added in mug with the DDP was a waste and an option that we didn't want or need. But again, WDW works the numbers and it is those of us that live close and don't always stay on property that usually get hosed in any of the deals (tickets, dining, etc.). Our passes don't expire until Feb. '16 and at that time we'll look at what makes sense for us or if any of it still makes sense for us. I'm getting to where I'm happy just staying in the resort and skipping the park altogether some days and the kids love just spending the day in the pool and resort community centers.

It certainly seems to me that this is a big sign that Disney doesn't care for DVC members. They know they already have DVC people locked in and the odds are they won't use points at the resorts without park tickets and if you go to one of the other properties they'll just offer the rooms to other guests.

I was planning to upgrade my park tickets to annual passes when I visit in December. Does anyone know if I'll still be able to do this? The chat CM I spoke with had no idea. I'm also wondering--we already paid for PhotoPass when we booked our tickets. Now that it's bundled in with the tickets, are they going to also apply the cost of the PhotoPass to the annual pass fee? We always pay for PhotoPass, so the change actually works in our favor--but only if they either let us cancel this one or apply it to the cost of the platinum passes.
