What size Tumbler?

Just wondering (we cruise in 2 weeks) what size Tervis tumbler to you bring on for you and your family?

So we can fill a cup and then pour it into a tumbler mug to keep it ice cold longer?

We brought 2 to our recent cruise and we never used them. Make sure you are going to use them before lugging them around in your luggage.

My wife and daughter brought respectable sized 24oz refillable mugs. I, on the other hand, brought my 52oz aluminum Bubba Keg (and yes, I appreciate the irony of a product called Bubba being used by a middle aged city boy whose idea of roughing it is a hotel with 3 stars). Purchased it at Target and find that it keeps beverages both extremely hot or extremely cold for 6+ hours at a time. It's nice not to have to run back and forth to the drink station every 20 minutes.

And just to address the PP, I find that mugs take very little space in your luggage if you stuff them with clothes or other items.

If you're going to buy the Tervis onboard, go the moment the shops are open and buy what you like. Do NOT wait until later, because if there are Tervis fanatics onboard, there might not be any later. Many say they restock; I have not noticed that. Buy them early.

And watch out for sunscreen on them. Maybe buy handles ahead of time (they don't sell them onboard) for both sizes (16 oz and 24 oz, I think, are the size tumblers they have onboard) and use them so you don't permanently haze what you just bought. (like I did) If you don't know what I'm talking about, look on the Tervis site for the sunscreen issues.

Oh and if you'll be in FL ahead of time or after, and you'll have a car, all Publix stores I've been in, in the Orlando area, have HUGE Tervis sections with lots of great selections.

THANKS for the tips! I don't know what you mean about handles and sunscreen so I'll be sure to look in to it!

Sorry, not sure why I didn't lay it out before.

Sunscreen
Our products are great to take with you on the boat or to the beach, (we're from Florida) (they can actually be a lifesaver on hot days—though not like a real life-saving preserver type thing) but keep these suggestions in mind when using sunscreen.

Drinkware Haze or Spots
Some sunscreens have been found to fade or discolor our drinkware – as well as many other everyday plastic products. This does not affect the integrity of Tervis products or your ability to use them.

While we can't say which sunscreens will be most effective for you, we do know that those containing TiO2 (Titanium Dioxide) and ZnO (Zinc Oxide) as the only active ingredients do not affect our drinkware. Also, aerosol sunscreens may do more damage to our products than creams or non-aerosol pump sprays.

Recommendations
To minimize possible damage to our drinkware's clarity and appearance, we suggest avoiding any contact between Tervis drinkware and sunscreen and to always wash hands after applying sunscreen before using our tumblers, mugs and water bottles. Should contact occur, wash drinkware thoroughly using soap, cool water and wipe dry with a soft cloth immediately.

I typically use Coppertone Sport. I had just put it on myself and DS, and I was holding my 2013 tumbler (so kindly purchased and mailed to me by a Dis'er b/c I had snoozed and "losed" on the first cruise) during a walk through the park at home. When I got home, there was a haze where my hand had been. It doesn't come off. At all.

Even though Tervis warns against it, they do help out with their guarantee. They told me that they could *try* to fix it but it wasn't guaranteed. (if you buy a normal Tervis they just replace it) I've been told here that they would just basically dismantle it and put the wrap into another cup, which sounds totally simple, but that's not how they explained it to me, and I declined.

I started using Hawaiian Tropic 30spf this summer and on ONE occasion (unthinkingly) used my Tervis after applying the sunscreen and did not find a haze.

Your mileage with those specific sunscreens might vary!

They make handles for them that are wonderful. We took our tumblers last year. We refilled them with the cups provided, as mentioned by PP for sanitation reasons. Last year we didn't have handles so it was difficult for one person to carry four large tumblers. Now we have handles for them and one person can easily carry four of them. It makes it simpler if one person grabs drinks for the group to take back to the room, or to have by the pool. We bought ours at a Tervis outlet, but I am sure you can order them online.

I just saw disney tervis tumblers at bed bath and beyond this weekend...and you can use their coupons on it!

And most Bed Bath and Beyond locations carry the handles for the 16 oz & 24 oz. I bought 2 of each for our mugs (we have quite a few) and plan on bringing our 24 oz (with handles) to use on our October Fantasy cruise.
