I have read through some of the forums covering this but I am looking for a more definitive answer. We are going to Disney and staying off property. We have already booked are fast passes with our tickets and linked magic bands. Should we purchase six more magic bands for our family of six and attempt to get the extra fast passes when we arrive?

We are gonna be using two sets of non linked bands for Same Day Fast Pass and our primary linked set for FastPass+ reserved rides. We aren't leaving anything to chance. Once our FastPass+ reserved rides are used then we will be able to run 3 sets of Same Day Fast Pass if need be

I am in no way a MagicBand expert... but my understanding is a MagicBand must be activated through the turnstiles in order for the FP to work that day. For example, CMs have additional passes at all times, but unless they use them at the park entrance, they can't use those passes for extra FPs.

MagicBands that do not have linked tickets and have not been used to enter a park will activate FP selection at the kiosks. There's a whole thread on this working theory. It also appears to apply to CM ticket media as reported by iPad FP CMs over a year ago. The CMs asked for a friend's Main Gate that had not been used to enter the park and they selected 3 FPs with it.

You would have to create a second MDE account, using a different email address than your first one, and link the MBs to that one. Is it really worth $120 ($19.99 x 6 + tax) to do this? Not at all, to me. Use your 3 prebooked FP+, get some extra ones after that if you wish, and just enjoy your day.

Fast passes are not activated by passing through the entrance. FP are good to go once their linked to your MDE. If this was the case, then others couldn't bring in other family members magic bands and use them for 3 extra FP's. Scanning at the front only verifys you are the person wearing the band and have a valid park ticket

$12.95 online and free shipping. And for our party of 7 it is completely worth it. For some it's not. This sounds like a topic that will harken the old days of legacy FastPass when one could return after the posted time hence stacking FastPass tickets all day long. I got a chuckle out of the Disney store website stating a limit of 25 MagicBands per order. That would be a lot of time management. lol

How about bands from previous trips? We have an older set, can we use those the day of to get more passes at the kiosk?

As far as I know, no. You need bands that haven't been linked to any account. Even if you deactivate a band, it's still yours as their not transferable

Not if the guest(s) to whom they are assigned will be at the park.
All MBs assigned to you (anyone on this trip) will be considered identical (duplicates)
of the current MBs assigned for this trip.

Only "old" MBs assigned to guests who will NOT be on this trip can be used as "extra" MBs.

So We can enter the park with my magic and that has 3 FP already on it, buy 2 more magic bands and have the cm link them at point of purchase to a new "dummy" MDE account and make 3 more fast pass reservations? I know I am missing a step since ther would tech be no tickets on thT dummy account? Can someone explain step by step for those of us challenged by fp+ thanks.

1. Yes.
2. Doesn't matter. You only need to have purchased tickets to make ADVANCED FP+ reservations.
3.
Buy a MB.
Link it to a stand-alone MDE account.
Once inside a park, make same-day FP+.

You need to link the MagicBands by yourself to the new MDE. Link the IDs on the underside of the MBs to the correct people in the new MDE.

Then, go to a kiosk and choose your FPs.

Thanks Robo! So for 2 people I would have to create 2 dummy accounts and then link them just like the regular magic bands currently on my MDE for my upcoming trip?

You could create one new MDE account with two people listed in it.

So I need to create a dummy account or can I put them in my regular account? I would guess I would just tell the cm not to link them I'll do it later?

Many people do create phantoms in their MDE account and link the newly purchased MBs to them.

It's best to tell the CM you are purchasing in the 'link it later' mode to have control over where the MB gets linked.

So, a new MDE or phantoms in your original MDE - decide which one will be less confusing.

Can the extra fast passes be chosen through the "dummy" account once in the park that day, or do they have to be done through the kiosk?
