Unpopular Opinions

Another one that sparks heated conversations is how to dress for formal and semi formal night. I really could care less about what others around me are wearing. I don't get why it gets some so upset.

People also can be very opinionated on what ship(s) is the "best". I have found that if your first cruise was on the Magic or Wonder you tend to like those better and if you first went on the Dream or Fantasy you like those better. BUT I think they are probably all great ships and it is personal preference on what is "better".

I don't get getting a Cabana on CC (especially since they are overpriced for just a few hours of use). For my family we actually would not want a cabana on CC. We spend time walking around, eating, in the water, etc...

PAT is also over rated. When we had a 10:30 PAT (boarding number 2) and they announced a new number about every 60 seconds and everyone was trying to board at once. It was crazy! I do understand if you want to get there early to see about an upgrade but other than that I don't get it. Also for those that have a later PAT but show up before 10 am. Then that creates a line that takes about a hour to get through. It just seems like there is a better way.

I agree.... semi formal/formal optional is just that.... optional. As long as I feel comfortable in what I decided to wear, it makes no difference to me what others wear, as long as it isn't against Disney's rules.

I may also be in the minority, but I don't like the "shopping" meetings telling us all about the "great" deals we can get at the ports. They got me in WAY TOO MUCH TROUBLE....lol!!!! :sad2:

just chiming in, here:

Our servers, as I've stated on many different threads, we perfectly OK. The assistant server was brand-spankin' new and was terrible but eager, so she got points for that. Head server asked how to give exceptional service, I told him, and he got worse.

Only met room attendant as they were picking up our luggage and he introduced himself, all smiles...he did perfectly fine job all week (as in any motel) ...

anyhow, if I hadn't read about the amazing servers in advance, I wouldn't have been disappointed.

Our servers were probably the worst I have ever had on any cruise. The first night was just chaotic and I just thought maybe it was because it WAS the 1st night, passenger turnover that day, etc. The second night our appetizers took over an hour to come and they were cold. Our drinks were finally brought after they served the main course after repeatedly asking for them. We spoke with our the Head Server about it when he came by our table. The other four nights we were in and out in less than an hour (went to Remy one night!). We were barely putting the last bite of one course into our mouth when the next one came out :sad2: Our server also had horrible horrible horrible bad breath.

I've done 8 cruises and will not bring candy, snacks etc for CM. I tip over the suggested amounts for good service. I mention names on comment cards. And when I get home I email DCL about my great serving team and state room stewards. I also mention anyone else who did something extra for us. But bringing 5 pounds of candy to give various CM isn't something I do.

I think you should send DCL an email explaining what happened to you. They should become aware that if they make more things by reservation only, that they need to make sure that the people whom they transport themselves are not totally locked out of being able to take part. They sell you a night at one of their resorts and a transfer and advertise this as a seamless experience. And then you arrive at the ship to be told that you should have arrived earlier to sign up for the character meets. To me this is a fail in service and you are rightly disappointed.

Yea maybe so, but some on here act like this is just the way it is, haha...Talking to some people on the boat, I think all these ticketed character appearances are new, they need to figure out a better way to do this....

I contacted DCL about what happened to us, maybe they will respond, who knows?

I don't know if this would be unpopular here, but it certainly seems to be with Disney. It seems that whenever they roll out a new set of itineraries, the phone logs are clogged up and people experience long wait times. So my opinion is this--I think they should do a three day roll out (plantinum/gold on day 1, silver on day 2, and new cruisers on day 3.) But they probably never will because I think they like all the hype it creates.

Or how about just let us browse/book on the website? They could restrict access to the new itineraries by using the Castaway Club login.

just figured value resorts are always the last to get picked up which seems like would be about right....

I've done DCL transportation from value resorts and deluxe resorts and the pickup was roughly the same time for each. Luck of the draw if you are the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd pickup but none left the WDW area before noon and most were closer to 1 p.m.

I'm really not interested in the server recommendations at dinner. First, by the time they come to give the recommendation, I've already had the menu and decided what I want. Second, their recommendations are rarely anything I'd be interested in eating. Food is so subjective, why do they make the servers run down the list of their favorites? Maybe if that asked what type of food the guest enjoys and then make a recommendation based on that, but I really don't care about all the seafood dishes the server thinks are spectacular. :rotfl:I've only had one server (8 cruises) pick up on the fact I never order a seafood item.:rotfl2:I also agree with the previous poster that my drink order on the first night is not intended to be my order for the entire cruise....

That's great but then why be punished by DCL by not having any character tickets available because you did not get on boat until 3?...YOu would think since you are staying at a WDW resort days before you would not be punished when you are on the boat later then lots of other people who got all the character tickets for the ticketed events...

If DCL had us sign up for character meet and greets online like they do for Palo and shore excursions, then they'd have a better idea of how many people are interested in the meet/greet and adjust the times accordingly. Since the Anna/Elsa signups are relatively new, hopefully DCL will get enough feedback to do something about the passengers who don't have the opportunity to sign up.

Yes agreed, we have emailed DCL, not sure will get a response, but I guess it does not hurt..

Not a mod and just a suggestion, but maybe the Anna/Elsa tickets thing could become its own thread? It's not really about 'unpopular opinions', I think everyone agrees there are never enough Anna/Elsa time slots (in the parks and whatever).

This goes along with the Nemo splash area thread currently posted. If non potty-trained kids are not allowed in the pools (which I totally get and agree with that policy), then they need to lower the splash area age (or height) considerably. Eight is too old to be in that little confined space with toddlers; someone might get hurt, especially since some kids come into that area without parental supervision. And it's not like at the WDW resorts, where the parent can just take the kid to the pool if the splash area gets too rowdy; that option does not exist in this case.

I felt guilty about asking for a different beverage after he had already brought me a duplicate of the previous night's beverage.

So I just saw the thread about where muster stations are on the Dream and Fantasy. What difference does it make to know this ahead of time? Is it just curiosity? Your KTTW has your station on it and it tells you where to go in your cabin.

just guessing, but maybe this way families who book more than one room can know whether they will be on the same lifeboat or not.

It seems its just popular with many passengers that they want to now where their Muster station is. They have had those threads for 2 or 3 years now.

AKK

For my family of 3, we have found Toy Story the Musical to be extremely BORING. People seem to love it, we tried it twice and walked out both times. We absolutely love all the other stage shows we have seen, but Toy Story needs to go away.
Completely agree, we've seen it twice and that was one to many. Toy Story needs to be replaced IMHO.

We spend time walking around, eating, in the water, etc... We had a cabana for a family of 6. It was incredible. When the cost is divided out among 6 people, it really isn't much different than other Port Adventures offered by Disney. Having done it once, I feel strongly enough to say that I would skip all other Port Adventures just to have this one amenity. It really is something. And this "Port Advenutre" lasted from disembark to embark. No other Port Adventure can say that. Plus we did all the things that you did but did not have to worry about moving our belongings from area to area.

For us it has been early PAT/boarding time so that we could head straight to Aqua Duck or pools to have some less crowded quality time. Both times on previous cruises, this was the only time we used the pools/slides, etc.

Maybe to know if you are inside or outside? For example, suppose you are on medication that cautions to avoid exposure to direct sunlight. You might want to try for a stateroom that has an indoor muster location.
