I'm reading conflicting reports, so I need advice. I have booked throwaway camp sites for 30 members of my 40+ party in early Dec. On average, there are 2 families booked for each site. I had read here that some were able to have their MB's scanned for parking and that multiple members of the party were able to do that. I am reading other places that MB's are NOT scanned for parking. So, 2 questions

Are MBs scanned for parking.
Do I physically have to go to check-in to get the MBs activated for parking and EMH?

The night my family is booked, I plan to use EMH the following morning, so would I need to physically check-in for that? I was hoping to just do on-line check-in.

Any advice appreciated. And please no telling me why I shouldn't be doing this. We are paying for the campsite, and some may actually decided to camp for their night, depending on weather.

Yes, you should be able to use the MBs for parking.

No, you shouldn't have physically check in at the site if you've already done online check-in.

Our family used a throwaway room in August. Checked in online the day before we arrived. Scanned our bands for parking on both our check in day and check out day, no problems at all.

We had stayed at the Dolphin for 4 nights where one doesn't get MB's. When we would get to the park we simply told them we were at the Dolphin and parking was gratis. Nothing scanned , nothing produced.
Yes you can use online checkin for your throwaway. Many have successfully.
You don't have to explain that some may or may not use the campsite. Hopefully this will be back to a judgement free thread for planning thanks to our moderators :)

You still should have gotten a paper parking pass to put in the windshield.

IIRC, you had multiple vehicles?

Thank you all so much for your replies :) This is the 4th group YES trip I have done, and this one is FAR more complicated than the others. Coordinating Memory Maker for rides requires MBs (well, nearly requires). I told everyone that may or may not get ride photos, but they would get all other photopass photos, but I wanted everyone to hopefully get their ride photos, too, so we went this route.

For what it is worth to anyone, a CM mentioned throwaway rooms yesterday when I questioned why I am having a hard time finding a value resort for my sister and husband from Tampa who want to join us on the 11/14 weekend (no space for them in our BLT villa). She first mentioned free dining but went on to say that the folks at Disney were aware of people booking throwaway rooms and are working on a solution. She specifically mentioned the powers that be are monitoring a thread on DIS boards. Seemed like an awful lot of info for a reservation CM to share - very strange. Is it true or is she the source? I don't know but thought I would share.

Seems like an awful lot of information for a a phone CM to have gotten from the "powers that be" who aren't likely to be communicating that to the front-line CMs...

I am not understanding why Disney would care about "throwaway" rooms...they are paid for.so why would Disney care if no sleeps in the room...they got their money..mouse keeping got a quick turnover. Ones who are unhappy are like you who can't book but Disney didn't lose out on paid night. What am I missing?

I am not "unhappy" I can't book. I have no dog in this fight whatsoever. I own DVC and don't even recall the last time I've had to deal with booking rooms. It is my sister's fault for waiting until the last minute to decide to join us. I was simply sharing since I recalled this thread from a few months ago. Question what the CM stated to me as being true because I also do. Please don't question my reason for posting this other than the reason I stated originally- simpy to share.

Perhaps the person wanting to get in wanted to stay more than 1 night. I, for 1, wouldn't want to have to change hotels. Also, when you search for a hotel using a certain time frame, and plug in your arrival/departure dates, it will show up as being unavailable for the time I requested. I am not going to stay at CBR for 1 night then move over to POP for the rest of my stay. So yeah, they could lose money that way. People who actually stay on property tend to spend more money in the gift shop, food court, on site restaurant, etc. There's more money to be had than the price of a campsite, and Disney knows they could be losing out when it comes to that situation.

Ones who are unhappy are like you who can't book but Disney didn't lose out on paid night.
Your concern for the misfortunes of others is heartwarming.

All, please see the above quote. We have been admonished by the moderators several times. It seems rather clear to me ....

We didn't but perhaps that was because we had valet parked at the Dolphin?

When we pulled up at the MK parking I said to dh ...how do we prove we're at the Dolphin ? dh went to pull out his room key card, agent asked where are you staying, dh responded and he waived us through. Since it was our first stay there we didn't know we were supposed to have a pass, and no one mentioned it, but we thought it was pretty open to abuse. The pass makes more sense but in the 4 days we were never asked for it.

The pass should have been given to you when you checked in. But it does seem like they are being very lax with parking lately.

Exactly! I think there's some wishful thinking going on.

In the past, we've booked throwaway rooms and also booked 1 night stays (and actually stayed in the room) to qualify for advance booking for FP+, MBs and free parking. We paid for the rooms, received the benefits and used them. If WDW decides to change the rules in the future regarding 1 night stays or throwaway rooms, we will decide if the changes are worth the advantages and figure out how to proceed from there.

Hi!

It's been a while since I got the throwaway room and got all my fastpasses set up.

I've got confirmation that Magic Bands have been delivered.

I have 10-day:will call tickets.

I've even done an online check in.

So my questions are:

a) Do I need to do anything with those tickets, or just by having the Magic Bands linked to MDX ( as well as the tickets) I'm all set?

b) In order to allow for free parking for those 2 days, is it necessary to physically do a check in, or my throwaway night will be visible because it is linked to my account (which could be checked by scanning the MB)?

Thank you!

Mx

The tickets should already be linked to the Magic Bands so you don't have to do anything else.

They can scan your Magic Band to show you have an onsite reservation and therefore are entitled to free parking
