This is totally off topic of the BC/YC kinda but, I have been having a battle with myself of my 8am hollywood and vine character breakFast we have booked. My kids are 4, 2 and will be 1 on our trip. Is it really a must do for the kids? Anyone have experiences there? How early will we have to leave BC to make it in time? Ugh I have a love hate relationship with planning this trip. It's the 1st time for all if my kids. I'm really just used to planning for adults.
Thanks in advance!

Teena should be able to comment on this- she, her daughter Jeanne and granddaughter Lily have considered lunch there as one of the highlights of their visits to Hollywood Studios. They had great character interactions.

Here are links from the Princess Lily trip report with pictures from the lunch in July 2013 and in January of this year

Can anyone comment as to the progress of the hard goods refurb currently underway at the Beach Club? We have a Christmas visit planned checking in on December 19th and I was curious as to where you all thought the progress would be by then? We have requested a high floor. Thank you!

I am back to this thread after a long absence. Haven't been to BC for a while because I have been doing other things Disney including 2 cruises and a fantastic 2 week trip to Aulani! Staying at Beach Club soon for Wine and Dine half. Looking forward to catching back up with everyone.

I would do the character breakfast at Cape May instead of trying to get to DHS for an 8am ADR. The characters are really cute, the food is better, and it is much more convenient than trying to get everyone to H&V. But, if you want to keep the H&V ADR, then I've heard that it is really cute for the pre-school age group. Your four year old will love it. A two year old can still be shy. Some of them like the characters and some don't want to go near them.

I planned perfectly. We had 3 credits left that I just didn't understand...now I do.

I have emailed Disney with a copy of the email front desk sent me, so hopefully I get my money back.

WOW!!! I am really impressed. I have had a response from Disney. It seems that the charge wasnt for our lunch (and they infact gave us back those credits - but didnt tell us - hence 3 credits left at end of holiday!) The charges were our first three items charged the day we arrived - they even sent me a copy of the bill - which I had never seen before (hmmm surely they should have automatically emailed me this on the 19th when they checked me in, out and in again).

I checked out our final bill and yes, the three charges were not on it. Beer in the UK, tip at Akershus and wine in France. The problem with bills is, you dont notice what is missing - only what is actually there.

Well done Disney.

do all the rooms on the 5th floor have small balconies? I want to request the 5th floor, hoping for a renovated room, but really want a full balcony. Any advice?? This is our first visit, heading nov 16-23. Thanks!!'

My kids are now 4 and 7, and H&V breakfast is still a must-do for them, but they also love the Disney Junior characters. That breakfast definitely has had the best character interaction of any character meal we've done with non-talking characters (and frankly, the Disney Junior crew has beat out many princess interactions, too!). It's not just a meal...it's an interactive meal where they sing, dance, and play with the characters, in addition to the typical come-to-the-table-take-a-picture-sign-an-autograph process.

IMO, the H&V character meal, particularly breakfast (where the food is just the same as any other on-property breakfast buffet--no better or worse) is one of the best kept secrets at Disney. There are usually very few guests in the restaurant, you get as much time with the characters as you want, and the CMs who lead the singing/dancing are always kind and enthusiastic.

Since Gillespiedisney is asking about the Hollywood and Vine character dining experience I thought I would tell everyone about our family trip there with my Niece, Nephew and 76 year old father.

It was the first family trip together and my sister in law, who has only been once before to WDW, wanted to plan as many character meals as she could. My family, who goes so many times that Walt is thinking of putting out a restraining order against us, were being good sports and letting SIL pick ALL the restaurants. :crazy2: :sad2:

So we found ourselves at Hollywood and Vine for lunch with Handy Manny and a bunch of other characters of which I have no idea who they are. My Niece and Nephew were extremely excited at the prospect of meeting their TV heroes but all that paled in comparison to my Dad who had never met a buffet that he didn't love. His eyes rolled into the back of his head and I swore I could hear him swoon as he laid eyes on the spread. We had taken him to the Disney Dining experience of his dreams!

Somewhere along the line when he was a kid somebody had drilled into my Dad's head that he has to chew each bite 50 million times. This makes him a very slow eater. Verrrry Slooooooooooow..... Sloooower, slowerrrrr, sloooooooooooooowerrrrrrrr.

As a result, it took so long for my Dad to finish eating that Handy Manny and his crew made it to our table 4 times. (4 TIMES!!) By that time even my Niece and Nephew were sick of them. In an effort to tear my Dad away from his food I would sic the characters on him for Cell phone photo opportunities but even that would not deter my Dad from his beloved plate of buffet bonanza! If my blurry cell phone pictures would have come out I would have captured my Dad in mid chew, with cheeks stuffed like a chipmunk, and Sofia the First doing the old character grip and grin on his shoulder.

Finally enough time had passed that it was time to get the kids (and Dad!) back to the room for a much needed nap. We tore my reluctant Dad away from the buffet with a promise that if he didn't pout we would drop him off at a Golden Corral restaurant after we got home. (Okay, so that was a lie, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do to rip the seniors away from their buffets!)

Some nights I wake up in a cold sweat dreaming of being trapped at Hollywood and Vine with Jake and Handy Manny and Sophia the First and their enormously large heads chasing me around the room as my Dad chews and chews ever more slowly. I silently swear that I will never again allow my sister in law to plan ALL the dining reservations and I lay awake in bed until dawn's first light forces me out of the bed and into a cold cruel world. The next time you find yourself passing an all you can eat buffet think of my Dad and all the other toothless wonders, gnawing and gnawing away for all of eternity or at least until they get their coupon's worth.

Thank you everyone! So extremely helpful as usual!

Ninjamom- hilarious! This is my nightmare. Not being able to get my 2 year old to leave (not for the food, but the characters) We had to drag her out of a sesame place restaurant last year screaming! I knew the kids would love it.. But my husband and myself are another story.

I have an adr at Cape May for breakfast on our departure day. We can't leave disney without saying goodbye to the gang!

Slightly off topic...

Anyone else hate "back to school"?

School for us has been back in session a whole 2 weeks and already both my girls are sick!! Oldest DD, 20, started first: congestion, ear infection, cough, etc.. Youngest DD, 16, upper respiratory (croupe - yes, she still gets it) and has been having a pain on her right side for the last few days that won't go away...already did bloodwork and now waiting for pediatrician to call with next steps. Praying that it's not her appendix .

Trying to keep my mind off things and really want to get excited for our anniversary trip which is now just 4 weeks away but dear Lord, it's always something :sad2:

ok, I'm done venting now...sorry for the interruption!

The rooms on the 5th floor are all club level rooms. I think that many of them have full balconies. As far as regular resort rooms go, you can request a room with a full balcony, but it isn't guaranteed. There really isn't a floor that has all full balconies or all standing balconies. The layout is mixed up by section, so that some sections will have full balconies on the 2nd floor while other sections will have standing balconies, for example.

The chances of getting a renovated room in November are probably slim, since they haven't started doing room renovations yet. :(

We often had breakfast at Cape May on our departure day. It is a great way to end a trip. :)

Hi! We are booked again for August 2015. Going to be at the BC the 22-27 then heading over to our first on site stay at the dark side. Please add us to the guest list! Thanks!

I highly recommend the lunch at Hollywood & Vine ... we never miss it with Princess Lily. This is our big meal of the day and we get sandwiches later for dinner. The lunch food is really really good and the Disney Junior character interaction is the best at WDW in my opinion. I do not recommend any character breakfast at WDW ... way too expensive if you pay money for it and a total waste of a table service if you are using the dining plan. Breakfast food is never worth over $20 in my opinion and to use a table service for a breakfast is like throwing away twenty dollar bills. The character interaction is wonderful at lunch and you get a real sit down dinner. Other character lunches I highly recommend for character interaction and food is the Tusker House. Stay away from Crystal Palace! We walked out shaking our heads at dinner summer 2013 and a guest that ate there last week got their money back ... absolutely same experience we had. Only character dinner we will do every time Lily is visiting is Park Fare ... love the food and characters!!!

Sorry, I don't know about the boats, but I believe the surrey bike rental operates daily, 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., weather permitting. They are so much fun...love the way people scatter, when you ring the bell, especially when riding downhill. :)

The Yacht Club Marina is open from 11am to 5pm. :)

Excellent. Beware chaos on land and water on October 12th between 10am and noon.

Kids still think its hilarious that I got a stern telling off by the Disney police for my boat driving on Seven Seas Lagoon a few years ago.

Is Breathless still available to rent ?

We will have to do the character meal at H&V. Our last trip with our youngest was the first time we did any of the shows at HS and she was enchanted. I agree about the MK character meals. We've eaten at the castle twice - once for breakfast and once for dinner. Completely underwhelmed each time. Crystal palace wasn't bad, but it wasn't so spectacular we'd return. We did love the Tusker House breakfast when we ate there in January.

NM - I've been your SIL. We stayed at the WL in 2008. I think we had a character meal each day. I even took my older daughters to that princess tea at the GF. I have a picture of Amara dressed as Belle (she swears I forced her to do it, but she lies) with her tiara half off her head. She looked like Belle after a night-long bender. We decided to take the scenic way back to the hotel and somehow ended up at the Contemporary. Where Teagan got scared by the escalator and stopped dead at the top after the rest of us started down. I had to run up the down escalator and carry her down. All the while hungover Belle was crying at the bottom, thinking I was leaving her forever. Worst Disney trip we've ever had.

Been there done that (not surprising eh?).

I missed the "don't pass this point" buoys over by Ft. Wilderness near the dam. My feeble attempts to point out that they were 18 nautical miles too far apart fell on deaf ears. I'm thinking that the fact that my boating license was not valid in Florida was the first clue I was dealing with pelagic pirates patrolling Disney's waterways.

On another trip a friend of mine got yelled at for having a 3 year old on her lap as she drove a pontoon boat near the French Quarter. The CM was afraid she was actually letting the child drive the boat... like that would ever happen...

AND YES... I will take the bait and mention how much fun I am having now that everyone is back in school. The snarling and gnashing of teeth is surpassed only by the threats of homelessness if they don't snap out of it and stop letting Satan inhabit their moods. Only one person in this house is EVER allowed to be cranky and her name is "The Momma".

Love this - I can just see the complete escalator chaos. Love the idea of your daughter being hungover Belle. :rotfl:

NM- hilarious as usual
